Why Didn't I Get Into the BETA?

Archive: 24 posts

First off, I think I should say that I am not demanding to be included. Im not that big headed. Nor do I think that I am any more deserving than anyone else to get the beta. Just thought I should make that clear. I am NOT being all obnoxious and demanding that I be included. Thanks

This is just a general pondering that i'd like to get your opinion on.

So. As you may have guessed, Im not in the BETA. This would be disappointing to anybody hoping to be included, but the fact that all...yes ALL of my friends on my friends list are currently playing it, I can't help but feel a sense of missing out.

I have been playing LBP since about a week after it was released. I love this game. I have literally spent a good 3/4 of my free time making levels, making friends and generally indulging myself in all things LBP. I have also been lucky enough to have some of my levels played and hearted by thousands! Which I was really happy about!

When I first heard of the LBP2 BETA, I was very excited. I was looking for ways to get involved, but couldn't really find a definite way of doing so, so when I read somewhere that Mm would include their more 'Dedicated Players' in the BETA, it got my hopes up a bit. But sadly, I have had no word on being included.

I was thinking of reasons why I wasn't included.

1. I don't have the 'Platinum' trophy on LBP. Trophies don't really interest me.
2. I stopped playing LBP for about 4 months when Modern Warfare 2 was released.
3. I recently created a new account, so my A_Morton account hasn't seen LBP activity for a little while. (Not too long though!)

Again. I am NOT asking to be in the BETA. Im just wondering why I wasn't considered? I love this game and would love to help it to be developed in any way possible. Sorry if it seems like Im moaning a bit, but I'd just like to know.

Yours truly. Mr Morton. <3

most likely It has nothing to do with DLC and platinum is not that important. I think it had somthing to do with the 4-month thing.

Edit: I think the time you missed had somthing to do with it.

What is that?

Plus, I had plenty of DLC. I even bought the John Burgerman sticker pack for god's sake! XD

1. I don't have the 'Platinum' trophy on LBP. Trophies don't really interest me. This shouldn't make a difference
2. I stopped playing LBP for about 4 months when Modern Warfare 2 was released. This might
3. I recently created a new account, so my A_Morton account hasn't seen LBP activity for a little while. (Not too long though!) So might this
I know the platinum makes no difference as I have it but am not in the beta, while my friend doesn't and he got in. It's probably just bad luck that you didn't get in, guess you have to make do with LBP1 for a bit longer.

I was thinking of reasons why I wasn't included.

1. I don't have the 'Platinum' trophy on LBP. Trophies don't really interest me. Don't think I do either.
2. I stopped playing LBP for about 4 months when Modern Warfare 2 was released. So did I ... but more like 6 months.
3. I recently created a new account, so my A_Morton account hasn't seen LBP activity for a little while. (Not too long though! Can't help you there but it might be a contributing factor.

*sigh* No one knows why anyone got into the beta. They are usually pretty random, and this is the first I've seen that has anything to do with owning content for a particular game... so that's likely a contributing factor. It doesn't matter why you and thousands of other people didn't get it. You will never know why... just like I still don't know why that girl in grade 8 didn't like me as much as I liked her. What does matter is that time will go very quickly, and before you know it you will have this amazing new game in your hot little hands and you won't even be thinking back on the beta period by then. Take this time to read up on the new features and plan your upcoming awesome levels to create.

Yeah, im a patient guy. I can wait.

It's just a little annoying that I don't see my LBP buddies anymore since they are all on the beta at the moment. Oh, and believe me. Im researching the game into the ground. Infact, I've probably dented my friends enjoyment of the beta a bit with my constant questions via PM's. ^_^

I don't think so, Media Molecule didn't even mention anything about "having platinum=betaz".

Anyways, I am very sorry to hear that you didn't get the beta as I enjoy all your levels!

I can tell you, without equivocation and with absolute certainty, the real reason why you did not get receive an invitation to the beta.

The reason why you did not get selected is because you did not meet the unspecific and incredibly vague criteria defined by Sony and Media Molecule.

Pure and simple, that's all you need to know. You can speculate all you want, but until Sony and/or Media Molecule reveal the precise formula by which participants were selected, you'll never, ever know otherwise. In fact, every single person who owns a copy of LBP and has played online was considered for the beta, but only several thousand (out of potentially millions) were actually selected. This puts you in lot with the vast majority of other players.

You can sit on your stump, place your fist appropriately under your chin, and ponder this philosophical and logical quandary if you like... but your time and efforts may very well be best spent in waiting for the next phase to be announced.

Just my opinion, of course.

That's not true, I've played a lot of LBP and I'm sure that I wasn't considered for the beta just because my account is set to BR. And a lot of frequent players from South America, Mexico, Russia and countries like that were left out too.

As already said, nobody really knows what criteria Mm had for choosing beta participants. (Or is it SONY that picks 'em? I dunno. Sony send the emails, but yeah.) A lot of undeserving noobs (I hate myself for using that word...) are in the beta. For an easy example, I can say that I've seen a level review that simply says: "u r an idiot". I'm sure that helps the creator improve their levels really well.

The opposite is true as well. There are tons of people I know that would make good beta testers. Always tinkering with stuff in LBP1, finding weird glitches and the likes. 3 or 4 of them just got into this wave of the beta, but that's not the point, and I still know more deserving people that aren't in the beta.

All I can say to people who aren't in the beta is what I tell all my friends. (The ones who aren't in the beta.)

Not being in the beta means you will be able to enjoy LBP2 more than us testers. Sure, we get it earlier, but we get the buggy, broken version of LBP2, and we're meant to look for bugs, rather then just flat out enjoy the game. When the game comes out in January, and all the non-testers buy the game, and get to play it's sheer awesomeness without it freezing every 2 hours, I'm sure they'll be having more fun than we are. (Even though we ARE having fun.)

Obviously the "millions" I was referring to were in those regions currently offered the beta.

Well good for you. But instead of trying to create friction between players, why not post something useful or helpful? I understand that this thread may be perceived as a bit of a moan, but that was not its intentions.

I was simply trying to answer some questions that I had and what better place to do it then here? Hopefully the stuff people have posted could have helped out others who are also not in the beta. Like you. But if your not going to appreciate that, then I suggest you go away and and leave the *****ing to high school.

I didn't get in, but I suspect it's because I'm a sub-account on my dad's PS3, and my dad never goes on LBP.

However, it means us left behind can soak up glory in LBP1 while the good creators are away

My code arrived late due to some error, and before I knew i was getting it, I saw that too. Odd isn't it? Supposedly it's a rare beta thing that only the "select few" will get in. Yet by sheer coincidence, EVERYONE you know has it. I know the feeling =/

Sorry that you didn't get in, but look at it this way - You won't be amazed by LBP2 features in a patchy, buggy, lacking, lagging, PS3 crashing way, you'll be absolutely blown away by the full thing as a perfected version!

Instead of getting a few features thrown at you, you'll have a massive game of features thrown at you all at once!!

For example - we only have 3 story mode levels - and not from the same curator, so we now have bits of the story spoiled...

1) Nothing to do with trophies
2) Maybe, but unlikely since MW2 came out a while ago
3) Have you checked both accounts? Otherwise - it sounds like that could be a good reason. Sony can't tell that it's the same person using two accounts...

I didn't get betaz. But that's okay, I probably shouldn't. Not enough time online with it.

But I do like that all you folks have it for three reasons.

1. I get to live vicariously through you and see all the goodies.
2. When the game comes out the vets around here are going to be able to use the tools right away and that means more quality levels for us earlier.
3. There will be lots of people around here who can give help[ and answer questions.

Enjoy your time with the betaz kids. In a couple short months you will have to deal with the nonsense of the rest of us.

Heres the thing about me... I havent bought any DLC ever (my brother on the same system has but the code was sent to me), and the account that recieved the BETA code has been inactive for about a month and a half before the BETA invites were sent, as i was trying to Booty master and ace all levels in preparation for the BETA with my new account coming out in November (i know right *****!) so i dont think i qualified for the BETA in any way at all??2010-10-28 12:47:00
