Creature PROBLEM!

Archive: 8 posts

Okay, so im making a new level.. and ive ran into a problem... already, whats new? anyways, the level is for a friend so its supposed to be a surprise so i cant disclose too many details on the level or else they may see and itll be ruined.

However, i have this sword and shield wielding foe, that moves the shield upwards using a wobble bolt and the sword forward at the same time to stab and expose its chest. the chest is the area where you shoot the paint switch to kill him. takes about fifteen shots.. the problem is, whenever you shoot him he dissolves and for some reason the gas that is attached to the sword remains... floating. why? is there someway to fix that? also i setup the same creature with a creature brain instead.. to see if that could work.. well it does.. however. the entire level just dissolves because i have the creature moving on a piston that is attached to the wall. so i need some help understand or creating this. how do i make the smoke dissolve with the rest of him? why does the creature brain suck so much? anyone that could help me would be great!

Aye, as pointed above, try making a thin invisible line of DM, that should do the trick!

Hope that helps!

Is the gas glued to the creature? That should help with that. 2010-10-22 02:52:00

Okey, the DM is great. idk why i didnt think of that. However the Sword/gas problem is weird and still there. its attached to the sword and moves with it on the swinging/stabbing motion, but as soon you destroy him, the gas just floats there? however thanks a lot guys! youve helped me. I've never really made any creatures for my levels, and this one is going to have quite a few, in my mind at least. so i need to get it all down, and so far thats the only thing i didnt understand.2010-10-22 03:13:00

Did you add the gas after the brain?

This is a good call. Creature brains are by far the finickiest of LBP tools, and seem to have very specific rules regarding their use. I've never seen these properties transcribed anywhere (though I'm sure someone will post a link to a thread on LBPC now that I've said that), so... To fix your problem, I'd try detaching the creature brain, deleting it, and simply attaching another one. In your case, you also have the added advantage of being able to place the creature brain on the dark matter (out of sight/earshot) instead of the actual creature, and just having the paint switch kill it remotely.

Some other things I've noticed about creature brains that will make your hair go grey:

- Brains seems to associate themselves with the object they are initially attached to, and ONLY the object they are initially attached to. Meaning if you try to join another object to a brained one, it's probably not going to be associated with the brain. To get around this, just make sure the brain is always the VERY LAST thing you attach to any object.
- Brains that have switches attached to them (to kill them) seem to kill themselves if you 'copy' (not capture) and then place your object. Meaning you 'paste' your object and instantly hear a brain-dying sound, and when you unpause, the object will dissolve. To avoid this, just don't attach your intended switches until after all your copying and pasting is done.
- Emitted paintballs don't seem to kill creature brains the way a direct shot from a paintinator would. Don't exactly know why this is, and the only way I can suggest getting around it is simply using a small, one-shot paint switch in the PLACE of a brain, but still attached to a "hidden" brain somewhere.

Hope this saves a few headaches!

Oh, yeah that is great. i did the DM trick and it was ridiculous and wouldnt do it.. deleted the brain.. attached a new one. and bam totally works. and has no twitching or anything and even the gas goes away accordingly. which was a nasty problem. this is gonna help me a lot in this level considering im not a creature inventing type, and this level calls for creature killing all the way to the core. Thanks a lot everyone! if i run into any more problems ill be right back here.
