Red Hologram + Blue Hologram + 3D glasses =...?

Archive: 21 posts

I was just sitting around one day, and thought to myself: "Man, I look really good" but then I thought: "Hey, what if you put blue and red holograms together in LBP2 (Like a 3D movie) and wore 3D glasses? Would it appear 3D?" So... would it? What do you think?2010-10-20 23:12:00

Let me test that out...

Probably not, though. It's a game. It doesn't simulate real stuff like that, but it's worth a shot. I don't know much about how that works, anywho.

I'm unfamiliar with exactly WHY the 3D effect works with those glasses, but it certainly seems like it could work. I would try, but alas, I have no 3D glasses. xD It's all visual perception, one eye seeing something and the other seeing the same thing just placed differently, so I don't see why it wouldn't work. Lining up the holograms to get this to work would be insanely tedious though.2010-10-20 23:25:00

It would work, it would have to be the right shade of red and blue probably though. This is a GREAT idea. If I had the beta I would try it out, but im beta-less haha2010-10-20 23:39:00

I think it works because the coloured film over each eye blocks one of the colours each, so each eye sees the same object but in a different position. I think that when your eyes sense the distance they are seperated from eachother, they think that the object is further forward. Presumerably the further apart the two variations of the object are, the more the eyes compensate and so the nearer the object seems to appear.

I could try and think this through but I really cba atm, so it may be completely wrong

@Kung Fu Hotdog, no, you right 3D is like stereo audio but for eyes, in hardware state point it's all about delivering separate display to separate eye (and thats not easy), the whole 3D effect is all done by your own brain, that he do this on daily basis since this is why you got 2 eyes, to have feel of 3D (but still your eyes see in 2D)2010-10-21 00:23:00

@Shadowriver and Skalio- Hey thanks for confirmation and the further explanation and stuff

I suppose an easy way to demonstrate how depth perception works is to wear an eye patch and try and pick stuff up Not quite sure how much of a difference there is though....

Wow, I'm amazed on how fast people started talking about this. Anyway, these are all pretty much the same thoughts I had (though slightly less "smart sounding"). So, lets say you made a movie entirely of 3D holograms, would it appear to be a 3D movie (accompanied by the glasses)? I understand it would be tough (Taking FOREVER to line up the holograms correctly) but is it doable?2010-10-21 01:46:00

I never got the idea how red and blue or whatever is said to work,
it never did for me, i put on them red/blue glasses I see no 3D... it all just burns my eyes
when i put them on and some things look odd... but not 3D... So i never got to know what it was like,
like others did, but whatever i never care for the idea of it anyways, just a gimmick =P
(My eyes seem to be not normal, And yes i was using them right =P)

But it does sound interesting if this can be done or not in LBP,
and be cool to hear someone does it~ *mew

Oh and basis how to control depth, feather distance between red and blue on object then it feather it will be in 3D effect2010-10-21 03:04:00

Stereoscopic 3D is not 3D. Even with one eye closed, you can sense distance through focus and parallax as you move your head. With stereoscopic 3D you don't have either of those. So in fact the game or film you are watching needs to fake this by using depth of field, and parallax is not simulated so you need to sit still and watch it only from the front.

The reason why you can't see 3D with glasses is problably because (presuming you were actually looking at a proper red/cyan image) you have one eye better than the other, which your brain uses almost exclusively to process images with one eye, making the stereoscopic 3D effect useless. It is an interesting question why some people seem not to be able to see 3D.

Edit: Found this on google

May help you understand why you can't see 3D

About what Thor said, I think I understand. Sometimes, when I close one eye, it appears to give everything a reddish tint. Then I try it with the other, and it gives everything either a blueish or greenish tint. Then when I open both eyes, everything is normal. Is this why 3D glasses are designed the way they are?2010-10-21 21:51:00

They make it that way so each eye sees a slightly different image, making the illusion of depth. Thats why without the glasses, you see the red and blue slightly apart, not purple.2010-10-22 01:08:00

In red glass red color become invisible (it blends) but blue color becomes black, in blue grass blue color becomes invisible but red color becomes black, as result each color glass see only single image based on opposite color, each eye get different image and start to feel depth This method got lot of cons, first of all loss of color 2nd different color glass in eyes make little fuzzy feel.

This way of 3D is called analog stereoscopic 3D

The current Stereoscopic 3DTVs use active shatter glasses, that covers each eye in same refresh speed as tv, tv change the image each frame and each frame glasses covers different eye, as result each eye see diffrent image and again it add depth. Why it's more popular then red-blue glasses? near 0 loss of quality of the image in process

There way to achieve it without glasses, you know about Nintendo 3DS? ;] actually it's not first device that use this technology, i first seen it in Fujitsu Real3d camera:

http://digitalmobiler.com/2008/11/28/the-first-fujifilm-3d-camera/

it uses special glass that spreads light of display to 2 directions and when your face is in central view point each eye get diffrent image and you got feel of 3D. Same way as classical "changing stickers" or 3D postcards works. Problem of this method is low view angle of 3D, this is why 3DTVs don't use that, but they working on it.

It would be quite cool.. but they might have to redevelop another settings to the game.. unless our faithful friends at sony can help us out and make lbp2 a 3d game in addition to their 3D game pack..2010-10-24 10:17:00

I think I played a level on Lbp (1) with a 3D effect. I don't know if it worked because I don't have 3D glasses, but it looked like it worked.2010-10-24 13:55:00
