Simple Question for a Newbie

Archive: 11 posts

I am was working on my first level the other evening and came across a problem, I created an object and once created could not get it inside the area that I needed because it would not pass through a 3 layer deep wall. The best example I could find to demonstrate what I am talking about is this picture taken from the Guides section.

Once the plunger was done how did the creator get it inside the box without cutting the box and re assebling the box around it.

Thanks in advance to what I am sure is a easy question.

They probably moved it up a layer and then moved it back a layer when it was in the spot they wanted it to be.

Hope this helps.

Move the original object out of the way.
Select and copy it with R3.
Place it where it needs to be.

Just be careful when placing it . . . if it is overlapping any other objects then the two will be glued together.

Thanks for the help but that leads to another stupid Question, As far as I had learned R3 just adjusted the camera view, Do I hold it down to select multiple objects? And how do I paste the object back into the project?

Pressing and holding X as you drag in create mode will select any objects contained within. R3 then makes a copy of those objects that can be rotated, resized, mirrored (L3) and placed anywhere you want.
To paste back into your level just use the X button.

Why is everyone saying R3 copies the object and L3 mirrors?
It's the opposite!
Press L3 to copy an object and R3 to mirror it

yeah, copy with L3 and place the copy inside, or make the plunger within the box, whichever works easier, just keep messin with it til it works2010-10-21 00:34:00

One thing, it's typically much easier to make things like this function correctly when you've turned on one of the grids before you begin building. Press start, and at the top of the menu there's options for small, medium, and large grid...to build the plunger shown, I personally would work from the small grid...as well as being able to turn on the grids from the start menu, there's the FRONT VIEW option, which makes lining things up much easier...hope this helps 2010-10-21 16:18:00

Another easy way would be make what you want to put it in bigger and the object going in smaller than once inside , size everything to the dimentions you would like it to be.
