BETA Community Spotlight

Archive: 16 posts

Personally for me i get sick of seeing the same levels over and over on the cool levels page, and Mm picks page, so i was thinking about starting a thread for Beta Community levels that you guys think are worth playing, but havent got much recognition... So if anyone could just reply with a level (hopefully not the obvious ones or anything you or your friends have made thanks) and hopefully who its by aswell then i can make a list for any BETA participants to have a quick (or indulgent) look over

EDIT: Now with LBP.me links so you can add to your queue!! (thank you shadowriver)

Enjoy!

1.FluX: Revival part 1 acdramon
A strange alien force known as the Ark has surfaced and taken out your city. Yet all you wake up to is a crashed escape pod and a heap of trouble! Realise your calling as you uncover truths about your unknown origin.
A visually stunning level with challenging gameplay, creative contraptions, multiple paths and enemies aswell. Definitely one to add to your queue, a level that acdramon should be very proud of. Battle Grunts and Strikers through wonderful scenery, destroy the power cores, and pilot a Rockmoth further into the mystery that is : FluX Revival... And watch out for the Prequel Movie too!
Moderate-Hard Difficulty, Some tricky platforming elements.
Visuals: 9/10
Gameplay: 7/10, a little too tricky in places

2.Sack Tourismo (Mm picked) asbestos101/O-K-I-N-G-0
This challenging top down racer may look simple but behind the scenes hides a vast amount of complex logic for the use of AI drivers.
Possibly one of the best top down levels I've played so far, if only for the attention to detail asbestos101 and O-K-I-N-G-0 pay to their level. Apart from an ingenious AI system for the sackbot drivers, which has so far caused me to come last every time, the pair have designed a cunning racetrack, which never gets boring, and provides constant humour and twists to the level. Asbestos101 has also leant his composition skills to the level, which includes a racers lounge and bar complete with jazz soundtrack, all lovingly created by Asbestos, the race itself comes hand in hand with its very own remix of Fleetwood Mac's The Chain. If I could only gives you one reason to play this level it is to see the Sackbot band perform their jazz number at the racers lounge, pure genius.
Medium Difficulty - The cars take some getting used to
Visuals: 7/10
Gameplay: 8/10 - A very enjoyable experience blemished only by the frustrating difficulty of the race

3.A Top-Down Racer c_mckamey
By far the nicest looking top-down race on the BETA. The design of c_mckamey's level makes great use of the foreground layers, and draws you into a wonderfully crafted city. As you race through the streets, try to take in the houses, shops and petrol stations, all created in perfect detail. This level allows you to drive through a city of such artistic care, a level which can be returned to over and over, and is just as enjoyable in single player than multiplayer.
Easy intuitive controls
Visuals: 9/10
Gameplay:7/10 - Similarity between cars means multiplayer is frustrating

Thanks for taking the initiative to start something like this up. We at the Community Spotlight have been considering this but unfortunately we just don't have the time. I'm looking forward to seeing what beta gems are uncovered!2010-10-20 21:39:00

In case you hadn't noticed, there is already a creator closeup. Making another one might not go down well with the mods

Good idea!
As Holguin said, us spotlighters were thinking of doing something like this, but we just don't have the time at the moment, unfortunately.

Good luck!

well this is where we hit a problem there no level showcase, you need to watch cool pages everyday thats only way, it would be nice if you find some partners for this, someone that know that scene for quite time and have experience, try ask Shadowcrazy, he knows the scene and not sitting on create mode much, but it's his decision if he will help you or not2010-10-25 03:47:00

AGACY's 'Space Trek - An Interactive Documentary'
It's sort of a mix of space exploration, learning and fun miniquests (like the ones in Ratchet & Clank: A Crack in Time)

Thanks for the call outs shadow and skalio

As hol said, we've been considering doing this, but beyond just reiterating what Mm picks already does we don't see a point.

However, a thread like this that uncovers hidden gems is much more useful.
