BabyDoll's Photography: Rosebud Foreshore

Archive: 9 posts

Me again with some more of my piccies

There aren't as many as last time (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=37008-BabyDoll-s-Photography-Royal-Botanical-Gardens-Melbourne), but hopefully a few here to interest you and give a little glimpse into this sleepy little rural Victorian town I visited on Friday/Saturday of last week. The weather that morning oscillated between sunny and stormy, as you'll be able to tell from the light. I also had some problems in trying to maintain a level horizon line as the wind was so strong! So apologies for that. In fact, it was so gusty out on the jetty that I was too chicken to get close to the edge for some of the shots I wanted for fear of being blown in

The subdued palette of coastal areas is so different to what I saw at the Gardens (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=37008-BabyDoll-s-Photography-Royal-Botanical-Gardens-Melbourne). But just as beautiful in many ways.

Anyhow, here they are. I hope you enjoy a little bit of Rosebud - Just click for slideshow

(P.S. I don't know what's with the size variations... I think it was an automatic result of uploading them via the site's size filtering software. There are also some other pics that I didn't post here in an album on my page)

Edited by BabyDoll: You're probably right, Inan, although you'd have to look hard to see it. I'll remove it

Hehe it's all good BD <3

Sorry I missed this! Some really nice shots there! Still think a bit of post processing would be really handy for you. In some of the shots, upping the contrast and a bit more saturation, lowering the black points would really make them pop. Some could also stand a bit of cropping as well as correcting the horizon line from where you got blown off course.. lol

Are you still shooting semi auto? You might try manual and bracket your shots a bit just to learn what is what. That way you could control depth of field to take advantage of bokeh (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bokeh) like you achieved in your pink flower shot. (would have like to see that one a bit closer or cropped and more contrast) . ...and also shutter speed if the wind is too gusty and hard to keep the camera still. It also helps you to take a 2nd or 3rd shot if it looks a bit bright or dark in the display after the shot.

Nice work! Keep on shooting.

I dropped my photography course yesterday. Mostly because taking pretty landscape pictures like these were out of the question. I was studying photographers that took the most revolting pictures in the world - not because of there compositional values, but the meaning and history behind what they had taken. It's really refreshing to see some pictures like these, I especially like this one...

I think with a bit of cropping, as Jww said and seeing what it looks like in black and white and that could be an even more awesome picture. Keep 'em coming!

Thanks! yes, I agree that I need some post-prod work. And yes, still semi-auto. I need to get the instruction manual and find time to read how to mess with the settings. I will try having a play with the contrast in the program I'm using (iPhoto). The settings on my photo program are pretty rudimentary... I'm really, really wanting Lightroom Can you tell me what you mean by the black points? I'm assuming you don't mean the darker tones you get with contrast boosting? I have settings for exposure, contrast, brightness and shadows, temperature, saturation (which really affects the contrast for some reason) and that's about it... I really need to do a course
With the professional programs like Lightroom, I assume you can slightly rotate a pic to alter horizon lines? I can only do a 90 degrees in iPhoto or Kodak Easyshare, which is annoying. Unless there's something I'm missing.

Anyhow, thanks for the encouragement, you guys.
