PS3 Spotlight

Vile AnchorageLockstitch/Lockstitch
http://lh6.ggpht.com/_yIEK1lDrzR0/TJ8DeQwxxYI/AAAAAAAAACo/qj3QOa4nEIs/s144/A%20Photo_3.jpgIn a dark corner of the world, massive vessels lay wrecked and twisted amid jagged rocks. Having washed ashore here, sackboy must now confront the danger that calls from within...

There's nothing vile about this polished masterpiece from Lockstitch - a perfectly themed setting, more original and innovative platforming ideas and his trusty two-way switches all combine to produce a level that's pretty much faultless throughout. A spectacular way to kick off Spotlight 50!In a slight mix up from Lockstitch's usual switch>spectacle formula, this is a platform-heavy level set inside an eerily moving sunken vessel. The physiscs puzzles and mechanisms are abundant and take advantage of the LBP engine nicely, and there's some more of the 'behind the scenes' wizardry that Lock does enjoy indulging in. Coming into this level expecting the unexpected won't be enough!Another fantastic level from Lockstitch! This newest addition to his lineup features great visuals and innovative obstacles and platforming. The puzzles are both challenging and original, which is difficult to do after the game has been out for 2 years. This all comes together to create one amazing, flawless level. As Holguin said, a great start to our 50th spotlight! You won't be disappointed by Vile Anchorage. A wonderful start to this fantastic spotlight! Lockstitch has seamlessly merged fun gameplay with music to match the witty plot. You don't even want to get me started on the visuals! Much of the new innovative gameplay has you hopping over spikes and swimming away from danger. When the challenging platforming eases up a little, do not fret! There is sure to be much more eye-candy or some clever mechanics that you shouldn't take for granted! With this kind of eerie platforming full of details in LBP1, I can only imagine what Lockstitch will bring the community in LBP2.With just 3 levels, Lockstich has created a niche for himself: a unique and incomparable style that you can't mistake for anyone's but his. Vile Anchorage continues his fine tradition of spot on visuals coupled with some of the best platforming out there. Along with the great material choices and decorating, the clever use of physics here is what really defines this level as great. You'll have to check it out for yourself if you truly want to understand just how well crafted this level is.Lockstitch hasn?t lost the touch! You?re thrown into a ship graveyard, a realm of creaking wood and rusted metal. The beams of wood are done beautifully; rotted and torn planks leave gaping holes in the ships? hulls. It just looks fantastic! And, true to Lockstitch's style, virtually anything can change, with sponges literally leaping out of the floor! Platforms you jumped across earlier rearrange themselves and become yet another entirely different gameplay element. He manipulates the physics perfectly. It's brilliant. Simply brilliant. You will not want to miss this amazing level!

Foulmouth GrottoL1GhTmArE/L1GhTmArEhttp://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c19/Rahsaan1/NewLevels/onlythebeginning.jpgFamous for its decaying teeth shaped stalactites and stalagmites, Foulmouth Grotto is a natural wonder. Despite this fact, no one has ever traversed its cavities...until now.

Clamber through a dentist's worst nightmare, by L1GhTmArE (hoho). Cracked tooth-shaped stalagmites and stalactites cast a brilliant mood over smooth platforming, while subtle lighting brings out all the carefully crafted shapes. Rounded off with a very solid boss, you will eventually triumph over the toothache!
With this cave structure taking on a distinctly disgusting organic approach (couldn't you have guessed from the name?), L1GhTmArE has created a dastardly tricksy little level. Swing from stalactites and delay your inevitable death plunge as you struggle for a foothold... Yeah, this isn't an easy level but a very satisfying level once you crawl, exhausted and shaking, onto the scoreboard.Brace yourself! It's time for a trip to the dentist! After I played this level I was brushing my teeth for hours! L1GhTmArE does a fantastic job at making you feel that you are always inside a cave, but also a mouth. At times it's difficult to determine where exactly you are. And that's what makes this level so great. The gameplay is original and fun, and the visuals are just beautiful... and disgusting The creatures and objects you come across are just hilarious. You'll find a lot to enjoy in this level. Add it to your hearted list today! I must admit, despite the level's name the last thing I was expecting when I entered the Foulmouth Grotto was... you know... foul mouths. This great platformer shares with us its unique locale in an underground cavern filled with rotting teeth and bad breath. The amazing visuals and unreal atmosphere coupled with a superb boss that stays true to the level's nature makes this one you don't want to miss.Right from the start gate, you can see why these parts are terra incognita! Don't let the music get to your head, this isn't Dino's Island anymore. The rocks will whiz by your head as you traverse the decaying teeth. The fire will singe your eyebrows as you roll over it in a peppermint rock that the creatures will eventually eat. The evil boss that will try to make you go to the dentist must be stopped as well! Hurry up sackboy, and take a bite out of tooth decay! Before you even step foot in the grotto, you can tell this is going to be a blast! Custom tree bark stickers? Check. Super-amazing jeep? Check! And then you enter the cave that's in need of a good flossing... It's a fresher (ha), much deeper take on the standard cavern levels that are oh-so-prominent. You?ll be swinging on teeth-shaped stalactites or riding the peppermint stones further into the maw (ha) of the cave in no time. Oh, and just wait ?til you find out what those stones are rolling into... I sat and gaped at it for probably thirty seconds. It was amazing! And the boss was quite unique (dental plan, anyone?) and a great experience! Foulmouth Grotto is a fantastic, highly enjoyable level that you should probably go play right now!

Toy Racer (LBP2 Concept)Special_D_/Special_D_
http://i581.photobucket.com/albums/ss258/daneeyul/APhoto_22.jpgThis is another one of my top down view levels where you race around the high detailed house collecting paint spots and trying to beat your friends to the finish. Wait! Not only inside the house but outside in the garden and front lawn as welllll!

A cute racing level that will be a sure-fire hit among your friends! Any ModNationRacers fanatic will love this similar styled level. A real racing frenzy with two or more people. You have a couple of laps so you can make sure you see the beauty or the level while at the same time you whiz by. Grab some friends, rev your engines, on your mark, go!Get ready... set... GO! Race with your friends through this amazingly detailed level with a great use of stickers. Like Tanrockstan34 said, you have a couple of laps so you can make sure you see the beauty of the level. Trust me, the details of this level will leave you speechless. Get your friends and get ready to race! What with the growing anticipation of LBP2 right around the corner, we're bound to see some LBP2 tributes within the coming months! Special_D shows us that new tools aren't even needed to capture the fun and excitement of the top down racer. The well designed race track, which looks absolutely amazing, is an awesome imagining of what's to come and something that will, once again, increase your appetite for LBP2!Ready to race your friends? The answer should be yes! A shrunken Sackboy leaps into the tiny toy cars and speeds off through a room and a yard in a three-lap race. This race is more about collecting points than beating your fellow Sackpersons, but you?ll be grabbing those purple dots like Mario Kart powerups in no time! Special_D_ pulls off the top-down view with charming flair; this race just looks great. So... go race your friends!

Perceptive DreamVandz/Vandz
http://i654.photobucket.com/albums/uu270/tanrockstan34/LittleBigPlanet/PerceptiveDream.jpgA perceptive platformer that focuses mostly on layer movement.

Perspective is the name of the game in this level. Things that seem to be, may not always be, and may change before your very eyes! Some impressive tom-foolery in this level with subtle lighting giving the small palette of materials give the different sections of level some context. An observant eye will prevent you from become pancaked and a patient demeanor will save you from most traps...but not all. You have been warned! This is a think-before-you-jump adventure with some crazily thought-out platforming and cleverly created traps. Not only will you have to demonstrate perfect control and discipline in this dojo of deception, but you'll have to keep an eye out for subtle signs that could prevent you from being squished ... or worse. It takes one heck of a good level designer to create a level that disorients you yet has a clear and precise path to follow at the same time. The wacky and diverse gameplay lead you through a plethora of obstacles only to return you to your starting point time and time again, yet each time there's something new waiting for you! The clean, consistent visual style along with this looping effect and the many speedy obstacles you'll encounter make this an amazingly unique level. Vandz's final tribute to LBP and his fans is simply a classic.Right out of the box you can tell that Vandz's last masterpiece in LBP is something to be remembered. With an incredibly memorizing use of the Incredibles materials, anybody who plays this level may need to a moment to think about what to do next. Do you go up, do you go down, left, or right?! Your head will be spinning from the well thought-out gameplay. In the latter part of the level, there is a beautiful assimilation of POtC and the Incredibles pack that you won't find anywhere else.

Vandz, I would like to thank you for all your wonderful levels for the community and I hope you bear well. We hope to see you in LBP2!Okay, let me just say... I am in love with the hilarious, charming beginning of this... a cardboard box! A clever squishing trap, a massive swishing wall, a room that blinks and switches... everything... these are some of the amazing highlights that will confuse, amaze, and delight you. At first, it left me wondering how Vandz went about making such nifty tricks, but then I became so involved in the level that I didn?t care anymore. It's astounding. It's absolutely genius!

Forgotten Hollowshawneboi/shawneboi
http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=24991&d=1286479903It is up to you to help Sackboy find his way out of the lost wasteland! Find all six of the secret coins to reveal the entrance to the lost treasure trove!

Shawneboi is showing us in full force that even though the LBP2 beta is out and a retail release is but a few months away, there are still those so dedicated to creating that they can and will still pump out fantastic nuggets of fun such as this. Traverse this very organic, wooden cave-style level that's overflowing with charm. Some cool puzzles and underwater exploration will keep you entertained, so make sure to swing by!
The warm, yet eerie visuals. The superbly designed water puzzles. The fun, frantic game play. The gorgeous lighting. The bubble combos. The hidden secrets. Everything in this level simply screams quality. It's seamless combination of diverse game play elements and perfected visual style make this level a memorable and inspirational experience that really shows off Shawneboi's superior level creating skills.Clever seems to be the theme of the 50th Spotlight! Clever, clever backtracking and beautiful visuals make this level stand out from the crowd. Everything just looks and sounds and feels damp, fitting in with the level?s water/wood theme perfectly. Stickers upon stickers are packed in, making everything look gorgeous. Then, with a turn of the wheel, the water level rises and the entire level changes! Things that were familiar abovewater have different purposes or different properties once submerged. It's ingenious. I swam through every nook and cranny partly because I have a horrible sense of direction, but mostly just in awe of how well Shawneboi put the level together. It's a level that would be a travesty to pass by!

LBL:4 In 1-Tu Plair Temple [2X!]KlawwtheClown/Prattz
http://i704.photobucket.com/albums/ww46/644Klaww/TPT1.jpgA simple co-op 2 player platformer set inside (and outside) a temple. Fairly short, but full of original co-op ideas that for the most part, aren't found in other community levels. The level also features a craftworld-ish LBP visual style. A lot of time and effort was put into this level, which originally had gotten the 160 hour bug. I hope you enjoy it.

Well crafted co-op experiences provide some of the most fun times you can have in LBP, crafting the necessity of multiple players into the core of a level, and doing it well is not something easily achieved. Some very refreshing co-operative elements in a cool temple environment awaits you in this wicked little level. The LBL 4-in-1 levels are still rolling in! Honestly, I can?t figure out where all this ingenuity comes from! Here, KlawwTheClown/Prattz has bestowed upon the community another co-op level. I dragged my roommate (well... he loves LBP, so ?dragged? might be a bit strong) to the PS3 and we checked it out. Fantastic! Some of the puzzles require some timing and deft coordination, but even me?horrifically clumsy?and my roommate?rather inexperienced?pulled through, laughing and constantly dying. There?s a great jetpack area, a clever bell platforming/puzzle segment, as well as an ingenious cart ride that requires quick shooting on both players? parts. If you need some grins, pull in a friend... because having a multi-sack-blast is what this level is all about!

WavesMofoSuperVillain/MofoSuperVillain
http://i794.photobucket.com/albums/yy222/MofoSuperVillain/APhoto_3-4.jpgDuring the calm of a storm you set out for the sanctuary to attend the vespers' ceremony. If you seem to get stuck try grabbing stuff. Single player slow paced puzzles type level. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JqvWsZSd01g

MofoSuperVillain is one of those creators that emits levels, and his emitter is set to 0.1 seconds. Every time we get around to creating a spotlight list it's like, ?Oh, look, Mofo?s got seventy more levels published!? So here?s Waves, his newest creation (at least until tomorrow)! In it, Mofo has mastered the art of the silhouette, blending fog, lighting, and sound to create an eerie, ethereal environment. The silhouette style isn?t a cop-out on visuals, either; Mofo brilliantly uses it to his advantage. The gameplay is fairly quiet and largely consists of lever and box puzzles. Want a nice, laid-back breather? Check this level out!

Fire & IceMorgana25/Morgana25
http://i629.photobucket.com/albums/uu15/Morgana25_photos/Fire%20and%20Ice%20LBP1/FI_06.jpgAn abstract platformer of moderate difficulty for most players. Featuring loads of custom stickers, many "secret" bonus bubbles and a time mode. Platforming uses fire jumps, ice sliding, timed areas, and other challenges. Hopefully you'll find it to be a fun and action packed level. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VwBwzJW9NMk

After seeing this in create mode, i've been a bit anxious to see it finished for a while now. Some fiendishly flaming and slippery obstacles await you and you'll be lucky if you can get through this level with nothing more than a burnt bum and a singed ego.The sharp contrast between two of natures most prominent elements is captured perfectly in Morgana25's latest masterpiece. The lighting, decorations and stickering present in this level is simply mind blowingly good, and all combine to create some of the flashiest visuals around. Just don't expect to make it to the end without getting a few bumps and bruises along the way! (or rather, 3rd degree burns and frostbite). This level also contains the coolest looking scoreboard ever made. End of story.Fire and ice seems to be the perfect combination for a platforming level. This is an outstanding abstract platform level that will blow your mind with moderate difficulty jumps, excellent use of stickers and great platforms that will keep you amused 'til the end of the level. This is a must play level.Straight from the mind of a level creating genius, a fiery path, the icy water, all of these contradictions of nature for your enjoyment! This spectacular level from none other than Morgana will heat up even the coldest heart while at the same time tries to make you slip and fall into the frigid waters. Besides the burning ice, there are mesmerizing patterns that you will not soon forget coupled with some hot new gameplay. Get your gad on, because playing with fire & ice has never been so nice.A huge smile exploded across my face as I entered the level. I?m not really sure how to describe the visuals though... glass? Wavy glass? Orange and blue... wavy... glass. And fire! I dunno! But it's our dear, highly skilled Morgana25 and therefore it's awesome! The level has this odd, abstract spunkiness about it that I just love! The platforming is fantastic, with my favorite moments involving flying over waves of glass, giant puzzle/fire/stuff wheel, and psychedelic revolving circles! It's another great level from Morgana that you just have to try!

Shady MovementsChicoleunis/Chicoleunis
http://www.imgbox.de/users/public/images/JIhfBnZ1fA.jpgYou are caught in a dungeon deep under earth's surface where everything is constantly moving!

This constantly shifting world created by Chicoleunis is home to some of the most brilliant and well-planned platforming out there. Everything is always moving! The walls, the floor, the ceiling... all stuck in an eternal flux that simply toys with your brain as you try to figure out how to progress. This clever game play design that makes you think as well as react is key to this level's charm. Don't miss it!Wow. Just wow. Everything's moving! With a visual style slightly reminiscent of an old Mario desert temple, Chicoleunis has created a shifting, surging level that looks and plays great! It feels like you're deep under the earth, and the climbing and rappelling makes it seem less like a side-scroller and more like a top/bottom-scroller. It has a fresh, unique feel. And don't you dare stop for a minute, because you?ll get squished or stabbed or dropped into a pit if you?re not paying attention. And then... d?j? vu hits and suddenly you?re at the start of the level again... except... it's different! This is not a level you should miss!

The Uberhighway: A Survival Challenge Ostler5000/Ostler5000
http://i581.photobucket.com/albums/ss258/daneeyul/APhoto_23.jpgWelcome to the extreme sport of 2100! Use the paintinator to destroy the machines ahead of you on the road, but beware as they fight back. Take out as many as you can using your only life, and see how you rank next to the other poor souls who perished in this sport. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GnqlyXaCrfw

If I haven't made it clear in the past, if there's one thing that really gets me going it's a good survival challenge. Ostler5000's genius level has managed to steal many precious hours of my life away with it's diversity and fun factor. You're placed on a tiny little platform car, and constantly assaulted by vehicles/death machines that wont rest until you lie motionless before them! This great premise is realized perfectly through Ostler's amazing and varied vehicle design, along with a great randomization factor that keeps replays entertaining. If you're in the mood for an amazing survival challenge, this is the one.An uberhighway? Heck yes! After playing this level, I?m planning on installing one in my backyard. You might say to yourself: ?Dang. Another survival level?? Oh, but this is not just another survival level, my friend. Here, you ride your cart over the uberhighway (duh) and shoot at monstrous vehicles that want to murder you. Doesn?t sound good enough yet? Well, there's some great randomization and variation here! The moving background has all sorts of graffiti, bridges explode behind you, and there?s jumps too! And the murderous cars in front of you are all different, requiring you to switch up your strategy! The visuals are nothing to sneeze at?even the scoreboard is a superbly decorated set! I think it's time you had a ride on the uberhighway!

PSP Spotlight

Crisis in Camelotsalieri/SalieriAAX
http://i900.photobucket.com/albums/ac207/tross13/Spotlights/PSP%20Spotlight%2050/2010-10-12-002.pngThe Queen has been abducted by a vicious Dragon! Embark upon heroic quests, acquire legendary artefacts, and aid King Arthur and Merlin in vanquishing the draconic scourge. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BUfa33vNPhU

Cambridge's latest DLC pack has made its way into the dark recesses of salieri's brain, and are we ever glad it did. The master of sack-scale character design pulls out all of the royal stops in a choose-it-yourself questing adventure fit for a King. You'll need all your wits about you, as well as a couple rare and magical objects, if you hope to defeat the fearsome dragon and save the Queen.Salieri. Two things immediately come to mind. Beautiful LBP levels, and some guy who murdered Mozart. In this case, I am referring to LBP. Travel back in time to when dragons still roamed the earth and embark on a series of quests. With enviroments that would make Monet proud, tight gameplay, and some of the best character designs I have seen since, well.... Curses! Salieri proves he is one of the best creators around. And he was no where near Amadeus that night.Sir Salieri enchants us once again with an adventurous tale fit for a king. Join the knights of the round table rescue the queen from a fiery beast, choosing your own path to become legendary. On your quest to greatness, you'll face unique and exciting gameplay set in a timeless citadel oozing with whimsy. If you ever wondered what a fairytale pop-up book come to life would look like, look no more and enter the magical pages of this one-of-a-kind level.A beautiful combination of planning and superb visuals are included in Salieri's latest level. Fancy ever changing environments, a history lesson and a dragon fight all in one level? Then look no further than one of the best levels around here.

Ruins of the Treasure godXenon/XenonHMW
http://i900.photobucket.com/albums/ac207/tross13/Spotlights/PSP%20Spotlight%2050/2010-10-16-027.pngAfter passing the trials you find yourself transported to the world of the Treasure god. Your journey to find him begins! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PHwOnjI-DRQ

Xenon brings us a stunning bubble-combo action platformer with loads of hidden areas and spectacular scenery. Fans of Sonic will especially love the high-speed sections, but you'd better have your twitch reflexes fine tuned ahead of time! Jump, slide, swing, and run for all you're worth and you just might be able to make it onto the scoreboard.Ruins of the Treasure God has great action-oriented gameplay, wonderful scenery, and superbly-placed, combo-inspiring score bubbles. What makes it truly outstanding, however, are the unique little touches like perfectly-executed chain climbing sequences, and the absolutely wonderful Sonic-style loop. The perfect stimulant for my supposedly dark, recessed brain (thanks for that, Taffey). The original Trials of the Treasure God was nominated for a Sacky in best gameplay. And rightfully so. It is a level that has been in my PSP for months, and I still play it to this day. With Ruins of the Treasure God, Xenon takes his patented gameplay, and level designs to a place I can only imagine reaching. With mechanics tight as a drum, brilliant gameplay, challenging but not impossible bubble chains, and more than a few sections that had me shouting with joy. Can you say, another Sacky nomination?A fast finger and an eye for visuals is needed to fully enjoy this excellent bubble combo level from Xenon. Tonnes of bubbles and varied gameplay stand between you and the finish - and two races for those who really love to grab the highscore. Superb level. Also from the showcase...

So, a big thank you for the whole team, it's really nice that you keep doing these
The PSP side looks a little small this time... but umm yeah...
I can't wait for that bonus content, whatever it is.

*Checks PS3 Spotlight*
I didn't make it, oh well.

*Checks PS3 Spotlight nod area*
Okay, now I know something is up.

-When a Spark level doesn't make it anywhere in a spotlight level.-
Either my PS3 level was pretty bad compared to others, or it was missed?
Aw well, I guess I'm sticking to PSP from now on. >_>

If anyone was wondering why my comments have been absent the past few spotlights, its been because i've been settling into university life.

I'm back now though, so you can look forward to enjoying my inane blabberings fortnightly again (not that anyone did before!)

Very curious about the bonus features!
Here's a cake for the big 50:

Any more thoughts/disscussion/advancement on the number of quotes per showcased level?
5, 6, 4, 5, 3, 2, 1, 5, 2, 2.
This week: 6 quotes for one level, and a lonely 1 for another.
Would be nice if the lesser knowns had the same amount, as most people will play a lockstitch/morgana level regardless of spotlight status. I know I'm more inclined to play a spotlight level if it has more quotes, as it feels like a safer investment of my time.

Congratulations to all the spotlighted creators! I can't believe there are 50 community spotlights. I demand to see fireworks and dancing bears at 100.

Omg, Morgana made a level. Must..play..it. Out of all the levels before they were spotlighted, I've only played Vile Anchorage, Waves, and Perceptive Dream.

Vile Anchorage gives of this vibe that something is gonna get you in the water. I swear I thought there was a boss there.
Waves is an awesome silhouette level that had me stuck for some time on the first part. I actually stayed there until I figured it out. I didn't want to miss a good level cause I was stumped.
Perceptive Dream had me thinking I was going around in circles. There was one challenging part around the end but I managed to pass it. Overall a great level.

Now, I want to try out the rest of the cool levels.

Hey everyone,

As a PSP adjudicator (Did I spell that right S?), I was very impressed again to see the talent roaming in these here forums. Thanks everyone for keeping LBP and LBPCentral alive...I mean, 50 episodes?! That's a lot! So if you haven't made it yet, chances are if you keep working hard, you'll make it by the time we reach 100.

Keep up the great work everyone.

It would be great if everyone would comment on every level, but there are various factors that keep us from doing this. Time is a big one--it takes a surprising amount (more than you'd think) to play and write up reviews. A lot of us don't have enough time later in the fortnight to write reviews. And there are a couple other factors. I totally get and agree with what you're saying, though! It'd be nice if it worked better practically.
