How do you make normal material dissolve?

Archive: 8 posts

I've seen it done in countless popular levels. I've actually worked it into my upcoming level. But I still don't get it. See I had an unprotected brain that is struck by a micro-bomb. However, if it wasn't for the thin front layer covering it, you would still be able to see the brain. And it makes that awful high pitched scream sound. So these are my questions:

How do I have the brain invisible?
How do I have the brain triggered without a sound or bomb?
How does it all work?!?

You don't have to use a bomb, and even you don't have to dissolve your object directly...here's my idea (and yes, I tried it and it works )
-Create a single piece of material (it would be nice a rectangle) and make it lethal (fire) and dynamic.
-Put it on a piece of static dissolvable material under this, and under this one make another rectangle of material and attach it an unprotected brain.
Here all goes easy, but here is the tricky part:
-Conect the object that you want to dissolve with a simple rope to the rectangle with the unprotected brain. What you've done here is to create a "creature" that contains your object and the rectangle with the brain.
-Finally, conect the interrupt/button/switch/mechanism to the piece of dissolvable material, and when it gets activate, it dissolves the material and the fire material will fall down to the unprotected brain and it'll be destroyed.
Obviously, make the rope invisible and create all this mechanism in a place where the player can't see it.
Hope that helps!

I think I have an EASIER way:
You don't have to dissolve your object directly...here's my idea.(and yes, I it works too)
-Create a single piece of material (it would be nice if it would be a rectangle) and static.
-Attach an unprotected brain on the rectangle and a micro bomb right next to it.
Here all goes easy, but here is the sort of tricky part:
-Connect the object that you want to dissolve with a simple rope to the rectangle with the brain and micro-bomb. What you've done here is to create a "creature" that contains your object and the rectangle with the brain and bomb.
-Finally, connect the interrupt/button/switch/mechanism to the micro-bomb, and when it gets activate, it'll destroy the creature brain.
Obviously, make the rope invisible and create this mechanism in a place where the player can't see it or hear it.
Hope this helps!

You know you can attach a one-shot switch directly to an unprotected brain, right? Also, after you have placed the brain on an object, you can select it, detach it, and the reattach it inside the material so that it's invisible. It can still be jumped on if you don't hide it deep enough though.2010-10-15 11:46:00

Here is my solution:
1. capture the object
2. make an emitter with 'lifetime' set to infinite and 'max emitted at once' set to 1
3. paste the object out of the way of the level
4. once emitted move the object to where you need it
5. trigger the emitter when you want the object to disappear
it will then be emitted out of the way causing the first object to disappear

Oh thanks salieri!
Sincerely, I didn't know that you could do this, but that makes all easier.
Now I feel like a noob  but oh well! After all, this forum is to learn new things about LBP!
Thanks again

I knew that. Its just that when you trigger the brain, it'll give you 50 points. If you use a bomb on the brain, it won't give you any points. Therefore, both ways have their uses. It just depends on what you're looking for.
