Just some desktop backgrounds I threw together on my new toy, solidworks. And yeah I've been gone forever because I got a job as an electrical engineer and had to stop playing video games for a while - GASP! I'll hopefully get some time for LBP2 in January, or make some time!

Let me know what ya think!

It says Power Switch, power on top plane, switch in the front plane - Not sure if anyone can read that without me explaining though.

Random pixel explosion from changing focus point - looks pretty cool

This one at 1080P is insane... I think once I get this working at home, I'm going to offer up a PS3 theme background shop or if I get really motivated, shrink these down and dust off the old sig skills.

Welcome, welcome back Lucky!!!

It's kinda strange because we use Solidworks A LOT at work, but it's not the best tool for rendering 3D stuff.

Having said that, these are really good!!!

1st mirror look cool... so does the boolean power switch (although I didn't see it first off.)

Weirdly, my favourite is the pixel explosion. Some other render packages have effects similar to this, but only with DOF. NICE.

I've dropped learning 3DS Max for a bit in favour of the new Blender 2.5 (Beta) which is proving to be pretty awesome. Unfortunately, the compatibility between that and Solidworks ain't good. The best option I found was a VRML export from Solidworks. Even 3DS Max struggles.... I guess that's because they deliberately don't want to to be easily compatible lol.

Anywhoo - glad to have you back and congrats on the new job.

Hey thanks Rhy - yeah these were pushed out of photoview360 by solidworks... As far as modeling, and creating the 3D entity I must admit SolidWorks is way faster and easier than AutoCad Inventor or TurboCad - and I haven't messed with 3DS in forever, you ever heard of 3D via?

EDIT -
Oh and I haven't been able to reproduce that pixel focus effect! This is as close as I have come since accidentally stumbling on it the first time:

Good news, I got this working at home! I made a pretty sweet PS3 background for my gf to practice up on my request skills, so very soon I will be taking requests for images up to and including 1080P! Stand by for more

Here is a pretty sweet demo of metals rendering polished or with a texture...

And just for the heck of it... one for the site

And one more with reflections, yay

Like the reflections one!

I must admit, we have loads of Solidworks seats and we can't find the master copy with the bundled photoview render engine! Duh!

I must admit, it's a pretty slick renderer - does it use ray tracing or just buffer shadows? Looks to me like full ray tracing... wow.

Never heard of 3D Via, but now I have Blender, I don't think I'll even keep my copy of 3DSMax!

Blender is a very powerful package... just learning particle processing now, including liquids, fire and smoke!! ...like I said... awesome. Trouble is on complex meshes, it eats my memory on my laptop for brekfast.

Man that sounds cool - this is done with PhotoView360, which is on SolidWorks 2009 or later Professional or higher - I work for a small company and we got only Professional licenses and one Premium. This is not photoworks, but a separate program entirely. Not really sure how it works, because it does work very well and fast on even slow computers... I would google it or check here:

Just something I threw together before bed.

And yes I made that from scratch, didn't rip any of it off but the background is from some wallpaper I had

Nicely done, LuckyShot!
I have one question.
Did you need to have a super computer (that's like an PS3) to render SolidWorks images that quality? or just a normal/good pc?

well, you actually you need a good graphic card on your computer to make the software run smoothly, otherwise it will be slow as hell.

CPU Speed: 2.39 GHz
RAM: 1023.5 MB (1 GB)
Video Card: GeForce4 MX 4000
Video RAM: 128.0 MB
Hardware T&L: Yes
Pixel Shader version: 0.0 (Don't have )
Vertex Shader version: 0.0 (Don't have too )
DirectX version: 9.0c
Sound Card: C-Media AC97 Audio Device

I dont think so man, idk, i haven't seen the specifications of the software, but your computer is kinda outdated (as mine -_-)

But so far in my opinion no, it would have problems to run, I would suggest a 1Gb Video card and a new micro processor (celeron processors are outdated), and more RAM memory (i.e. at least 2Gb)

So, in fewer words, you need a new computer (so do I...)

EDIT:
Here are the reqirements:

Honestly with still frame rendering it is dependent on software not hardware - the crappy hardware just means it takes more time to render but even a low end system could pump these pics out - unfortunately a seat of solidworks professional is like 4500 to 7000 USD retail. My laptop is decent but it's not a monster graphics card wise

And the crazy graphics intense minimum requirements are for high quality in program rendering inside solidworks, not the still frame rendering if photoview - but keep in mind a low end system would take hours to render some of these if not more

Here you can upload images that are at any resolution for free, up to 5 MB (10 MB Premium Users)
I always use this site, because it's easy to upload photos, get them again, etc.

Also, nice work again, LuckyShot!
