10,000 Leagues Under The Floor (Abyss Glitch)

Archive: 3 posts

Recently, a friend of mine and a plagechefian (Samalot) showed me (Ryukofdeath) something I thought was strange. By gasifying some material with a magic mouth attached, you could essentially peak outside the walls and ground of the level? ?I think I can improve on that?, I thought presciently. After about 3 hours of playing around with it, Samalot, a friend of ours named Barbed-Wire and myself ended up with something we thought was pretty amazing: we were able to spawn our sacks the floor of the level. Though it only worked while a magic mouth was on us, and we couldn?t move or close the box, it was amazing to do what (to my knowledge) was undo-able.

We had created what we shall now refer to as the Abyss Glitch. We had now gone where literally no sack had ever gone before and lived to tell the tale. At this point the glitch was very unrefined, only allowing the sackperson to appear and stay in the abyss as long as they had a magic-mouth cut-scene camera showing them.Chimpskylark shortly joined, and as we spread to our various moons, breakthrough after breakthrough was made. Barbed-Wire started the ball rolling. Using a respawning photobooth, he coersed the camera into watching the subterranean sackboys rather than the ground above. Moreover, this allowed them to jump, run, grab and perform all the average tasks of a sackperson?s day that the magic-mouth had made impossible.

Eventually, we ?piloted? our ramshackle dark matter craft into the perfect spot in the fissure. We discovered that it was a small, invisible gap, between two very large invisible barriers.Below us, the outmost level-barrier, or ?Mortisphere? granted us instant death upon contact, and we disappeared in a cloud of smoke like an object that had been crushed.

Above was the ?Firmosphere?, a solid invisible barrier that formed the inner walls of the level. Touching it was harmless, but spawning within it wasn?t quite so pleasant.

Within the ship we experimented further. Buttons worked, paintball guns (rule of thumb being that if it were attached to dark matter it would work fine. With connectors however, things were more complicated. Other items which had built in connectors, such as 2-way or 3-way switches, had a tendency to break too.

Beneath the default level background

Beneath the default level background After countless hours of testing, we came to the realisation that the chances of being able to duplicate this are very low, mostly because we somehow stumbled upon a tiny gap between the mortisphere and the firmosphere, which was no bigger then 3 sacks high (approximately ten small grid squares). While not impossible to reproduce, it's very unlikely to do it on the first try.

A couple more rules we found when in the Abyss were found shortly after, things such as emitters kinda work, as long as they are emitting either gas or dark matter, cardboard attached to dark matter with pistons will not work, however gas attached to dark matter will. Race gates work, but you can walk through the actual gates. Another weird rule was that nothing can be emitted if it wasnt gas or dark matter, yet paint balls from paintinator will work, water works and all dangers work as long as they are glued to the main dark matter structure.

If you have any questions, leave them in the comments!

We?ve now published a level of the glitch, from which all the above screenshots were taken. Its by the user ?plagachef? and is called ?The Abyss Glitch: Discovered by Plagachef? if you wish to see it for yourself!

Don?t commit suicide! You?ll have to restart the level (though a system is in place at the mortisphere area to keep you alive)
