GT 5 Delayed.... again

Archive: 131 posts

This is kinda stupid. I would think after having pushed this game back so many times they would not set a release date until they were sure they could meet it.

http://blog.us.playstation.com/2010/10/13/gran-turismo-5-release-update/

EU is delayed also

Was just about to post this. What the hell :| Now 'this holiday season'.

Not good enough sony, I'm not one to complain about delays... but GT5? Seriously? Duke Nukem Forever 2 will be out before GT5 at this rate.

the sad thing is the more delays they give us, the more we are going to expect. If I buy something that is 5+ years in the making, nothing short of perfection is what I will expect. Perfection.2010-10-13 16:11:00

I was going to buy this with NFS:HP! Me too, been too long of a wait, still I guess there is a good reason.

Listen Sony, Criterion and lady luck. Don't mess with Need for Speed. It's the last game I have left that I want this year. I'm warning you. I have a stapler, a car battery and season 1 of MacGyver.

On the upside, everytime we hear delay, delay ,delay, there's a ton of new content in the game. This game is gonna be a ridiculous experience when it comes out.2010-10-13 16:23:00

Yeah but it has been delayed so many times that the delay added content should include LBP2

what I am saying is there better be cake and it better not be a lie

I pre-ordered this yesterday... LOL

It'll still be out during the "holiday season" so I'm not expecting the delay to be more than 2-3 weeks. :/

Maybe this was all a ploy to create hype for the game, and it's been finished all along.

actually I have read a little further and it seems that the reason for the delay might be to have it release closer to christmas. Shrug2010-10-13 17:35:00

I think Sony wants to avoid the hacking problems and stock up a lot of PS3 in the stores before releasing the game.
It will be a huge launch and a system seller.
And I have no problems with eventual delays whatsoever.
I can't pain my life because I can't play a game a month later.
There are more important things in life.

It will be a ridiculous experience by last years standards, but by 2013 standards it won't be that great...

I was so disappointed when I heard this the other day.

When I heard LBP2 was being delayed, I though "Oh well, more time to play GT5 then!" but now this!?

I understood the LBP2 push back, but they have been making GT5 for so f'in long its becoming torturous! I tell you, this game better be pretty **** good!

I hear 'ya mate... A little piece of my lung/heart broke off and fell into the depths of my body when I heard the news... Like LBP2, it's mostly to.... Increase the awesomeness...ness on the game. And it BETTER be? If you're a loyal GT fan, think of GT1 - GT5P. None of those has ever let me down, and I doubt ANYTHING on GT5 will be hated.

Most things on it will be hated. It'll be like Chinese Democracy, it'll get pushed back more and more, and the more it is pushed back the more people expect, to the point where the expectations people have are wholly unrealistic and unachievable, leading only to disappointment.

What? That's your Forza fanboy voice speaking there

That only happens when people are told unrealistic and unachievable goals. With GT5, we've never been told anything which just isn't happening, and infact as time goes on we're still getting new features announced (hello course creator!). People don't hate something good just because it's late (it's better to have a good game later than a shoddy game sooner), but people do hate on something they were promised and don't have.

Look at Peter Molyneux for example, he talked a lot of bull leading up to the release of Fable 1, saying how the world would grow around you... you could plant a seed and watch the tree grow. He promised a lot, and didn't deliver on those promises. The game got a little bit slated for that (However, I played the game on my bro's chipped xbox without even hearing about it, and with no expectations I loved it). Even with fable 3, he was saying how it would use kinect, which it does not. And don't get me started on Milo lol While he has great ideas, he needs to learn to keep his mouth shut.

But yeah, expectations are high for this game, but I'm fairly confident it will deliver what it's promised. There's going to be fanboys, and there's going to be haters. Just how it is. I'm sure I'll enjoy it though, nothings I've seen so far says otherwise.

I just hope it releases this side of the apocalypse

It will with that kind of attitude!! Although GT does have a really really bad history of delaying games... And I imagine that it will progressively get worse with GT5... Perhaps you might be right... D:

It just wouldn't be a GT game without a delay, would it. As far as building unrealistic expectations, of course it does build them in people when there is a delay. However, every GT game so far has had numerous delays and despite the hype overload created by the wait have still managed to blow everybody's mind. I have high hopes that this will do the same.2010-11-02 15:38:00

You cannot deny that racing with that car will be ridiculously fun, even if it is in the novelty zone. I Bet it costs 100,000,000 credits lol.

But you should watch the video for the lols. The cornering on that... vehicle... is just insane.

But that's the point... they can't cause of regulations and stuff (so I've heard, I know you'll be more in the know about this than me). So it's put in a video game instead for fun.
Saying that, I wouldn't be surprised if they try and make such a machine for the sake of it now.

Amazon has not updated the release date yet.
Quite a mess around the game, I hope they'll advert the release in the right way, since this game alone can almost close the gap between PS3 and 360.

From my experience with Prologue, drifting is pretty **** hard and takes practice, but when you get good at it it's very rewarding and fun!

I seriously can't wait till this game comes out now. Can't wait to unbox my beautiful signature edition, test out the new physics, start the career and make good use of my wheel! I also am looking forward to B-spec mode, and remote racing where you can do B-spec from you PC (and apparantly mobile)

Got mine earlier today. There was an update to install immediately and then I did the install on the hard drive to reduce loading times. It said 20 minutes to do that but it took more like 45 minutes. Still if it helps the loading times in future it's worth it.
Just had a couple of hours on it so far but it's already looking awesome. Got the first B licence, done the first couple of races in A spec and one race in B spec and done a few of the special events including a race around the 'Top Gear' test track in VW camper vans!
I found the 2nd special event ( Nascar drift overtaking ) really tough for an early one, it took me lots of tries to get that one.
Loving it so far, but the remote racing for B spec is not available yet. they say early december that should be out.

haha it's pretty sweet, if a bit on the expensive side! And if you want to get through the menu's quickly to do A-spec just disconnect from the internet, everything is fine then.

I love the kart racing...didn't know that was added. A-Spec is the same old stuff but it looks great and it's nice to have a reason to finally dust off my wheel. I hope my RX7 shows up in used cars (don't know that it's actually in the game)...I bought the closest one from the dealer but it's a Japan model so the steering wheel is on the wrong side! 2010-11-25 03:28:00

I might get this... my problem is what to hook my driving wheel up to. I normally use it on my PC and pretty easy to clamp it to my desk. For the PS3... well, other than clamping it to a TV tray I am a bit stuck. I don't have the room for one of those driving/controller chairs and the TV tray doesn't work that well. It is wooden, but well.. horribly clunky to say the least.2010-11-25 14:32:00

You could always use the standard controller with the thumbstick. That's all I ever use and it works fine. I've never bothered with a wheel.

Yeah... but for ultimate car control a wheel is so darn cool. I've just done so many sims on the PC with a wheel as well as doing track days in my car, I am horribly spoiled when it comes to racing.

To quote Queen.. "I want it all.. and I want it now" lol

Jww,

I agree, a wheel really does add a lot to this game...I wouldn't want to play without it now. I have the driving force pro and made a very simple hoop out of 2x4s...it's very compact and works great.

My mate's got the delux driving chair, it's got the force feedback steering wheel etc... can't remember the make/model - but he spent about 2grand on it.
It makes any driving game an absolute joy to play... and I hate driving games with the firey passion of a thousand suns.

I need to get myself round to his house to try out GT5 NOW - he's also got a 3D telly (and more money than sense).

I've got gold on all the A and B licenses. Just doing IC licenses now, having trouble getting gold on the first one though! I'll get it in a bit, but right now my time is 0.001 seconds to slow D: I've got that twice too! EDIT: Make that 3 times >.>

I'm not even trying to get more than silver.

It's nice to be able to start with good cars for once and don't have to spend hours tuning an old MX-5. First new car I bought was the LFA. In pink!

I've decided to try to do the licenses first and I'm not moving on to a new one until I've got gold on it. I've golded the first two "brackets" - nationals or whatever. I like playing the game at my own pace. I'm going to import my own playlist for sure. I'll be driving this weekend.

EDIT - F THAT. Silver it is!

omg the license tests are infuriating, i'll be on love the game i'm addicted, but i hate all the hater out there purposely trying their hardest to take it down in glory. Great game, well worth it i use the controller andi feel i'm pretty good wish i could get the driving well, but well don't want to spend that kind of money2010-11-26 23:02:00

Yes the licence tests are real difficult, most are impossible to get gold on with a controller so I'm not even trying. I can't even get bronze on the last one in the IC licence.

The worst part of the game for me is not being able to use the car you want, it's just way too limiting in that respect. So many times I just want to go and race in A-Spec but can't because my car isn't allowed! It's got to be pre '69 or japanese or a certain make, or be pink with blue spots and ribbons hanging off it. GRRRRRR !! Just let me use my cars !? I really hate having to keep backtracking to the main menu and having to go buy YET ANOTHER car I don't want just to be able to do more races, which is usually only any good for a set of 3 races anyway and then is totally useless for anything else. That's the worst thing about the game.

BTW has anyone tried the top gear test track special event with the Lotus Elises. That is just impossible. I'm thinking it must be bugged because every time I try it as soon as you even touch the brakes, or try to turn, the car just whips round and slides away like it's on Ice!! Totally useless.

Yeah. I had to put all the driving aids to max and use automatic transmission just to get round the track. The car still handled like a dog but it was doable.

I only managed to get bronze with that Elise race...I also turned on all the assists and still found it stupid difficult. I need to try the wheel again with the assists...I gave up and switched to the controller before I remembered the driving aids. The hard part is getting past the other cars w/o gettng disqualified. No one in their right mind would put hard tires on an Elise.

I know what you mean about choosnig cars Mr. V...the only old car I've seen is a '54 vette. It's got some limiter that won't let it go over 100...I had a heck of a time winning with it. Still need an old car from Japan. I much prefer the races with fixed/comparable vehicles. I think it was GT2 that had a mode that created a comparable field for whatever car you chose...I miss it.

Seriously photo mode is just proof that the pre-release screenshots are the real deal and the game is the purtiest there has ever been.

I got GT5 yesterday and it's fun. Started my game with a Showroom Honda Civic, black.

Take advantage of late braking at the turns. The Sambabuses will brake early, giving you the opportunity to pass them at that moment.

Yes, but only Silver. Same exact game plan, but of course you have to deal with the "invisible ice" on the Lotus' tires. =P

Wow, the game really looks truly amazing, may I ask (if you guys don't mind),

Are there any freezing issues, frame drops or anything?
Is the online mode good? (i.e. no lag? dedicated servers, peer to peer?)
Can I add custom decals? (at least something uber simple????)
If there is a customization menu or option what things can I add/change to the car? (i.e. engine, transmission, change springs, new spoilers, etc....)

Thanks if you care to answer

(I saw the car list, only one Maserati!? why! and there's no Lamborghini Reventon There is an overwhelming amount of Honda and Nissan, [I wonder why...] but there is a lack of many other super cars like the Ultimate Areo TT, only 1 Koenigsegg [those cars are epic, they must have added the CCX], even though im surprised they included some rare cars like the Cadillac CIEN concept [cadillac lamborghini for me lol] and the Volkswagen W12, but missed some others like the Maserati Birdcage 75th [Never seen it on a video game but i can dream], FXX, Ferrari P 4/5, and the Ford GT 90 concept)

I haven't noticed any frame drops...the game runs very smoothly. Not sure how the online is since I haven't tried it yet...but the online in Prologue was fine, I assume this one is at least as good.

The visual customization is embarrassingly bad so don't expect to be doing much if any of that. You can't even change the color of your vehicle without first acquiring a "paint chip", you get 1 with each new vehicle you acquire and the stupid game makes a point of telling you EVERY friggin time. There's no way to add decals.

Some small percentage of the cars have aero kits (usually just a spoiler)...but you won't know which when you buy the car and it won't look as good as the actual race cars you can get so I never bother with these. The 200 or so "premium" cars let you change their rims, you can't do this on the "standard" cars. Basically Forza destroys GT in terms of visual customization.

As to performance customization, there's lots to play with here, you can modify everything but your brakes. You can fiddle with gear ratios, etc.

GT5 is certainly chock full of ugly little grocery getters that no one could possible car about and that you'll only use if a particular race requires it. There are lots of really cool cars too...

hmm, to buy or not to buy, I might only get it because I don't have many racing games on the PS3, and that thing of the color chip seems annoying, I can get along with the lack of customization tho, I still play Forza to compensate that anyways (and PGR4 to use some amazing driving from time to time), thanks for the info2010-11-29 23:30:00

1) I haven't had any freezing issues, but it has happened to some people. Rarely though. And yes, depending on the weather conditions or if you're running in cockpit mode, there can be frame drops and screen tearing.
2) Online mode is fantastic. It uses dedicated servers from what I understand and uses a lobby system similar to the old half life/counterstrike days of online play.
3) No custom decals
4) Customization is pretty much the same as it has been in previous GTs, from tuning the gear ratios (not individually though in GT5), ride height, camber, etc. You can add aero kits and racing modifications to certain Premium cars but it cannot be done to any Standard cars.

Ultimately it's a flawed game as it tries to do too much, but the real meat and potatoes is in actual racing which I feel makes up for the shortcomings. It's truly addictive and has effectively kicked my LBP2 Beta playing out the door for now, lol. And there will be weekly updates to the game so that GT5 can quite possibly look and feel completely different in 6 months time.

Let's not forget photo mode which can seriously eat up tons of time as well. But anyway...

GT5 is a great game.

Donkey,

It's rather misleading to post photos showing car damage. Inexplicitly your vehicle only starts to show damage as you level up. I don't think it's really noticeable until level 20; I'm currently level 16 and have thus far only seen a slight crinkle on a hood...nothing close to having a door ripped off as in your photo. You will have many many hours of play in which you will see 0 car damage. This design decision makes even less sense than the paint chips...I bet a lot of people won't even know there is car damage that can be unlocked...I don't recall the game making any mention of it.

The driving is indeed great...I highly recommend the game but only if you have a wheel. It's probably also more enjoyable if this is your first GT...this is my 5th GT (6th if you count Prologue) so I'm getting a little burned out on the same stale formula/presentation. I had hoped that the success of Forza would be like a swift kick in the pants to the folks at Polyphony Digital but it didn't seem to have any effect.

The game also has load times that are slightly longer than I'd like even after an 8 gig install. I'm happy with this game overall and frequently find myself smiling when playing, but at the same time I'm very disappointed in some of the bad design decisions and focus on stupid features like B-Spec instead of something cool like visual customization.

* I know someone is going to say they actually enjoy B-Spec...it boggles the mind!
** I've never actually played Forza since I don't have a 360...but it looks good.

I completed the first set of N?rburgring special events last night (level 6 I think). With the wheel and cockpit view it was absolutely great...that's a fun track. Cool old Mercedes too! Of course I was only getting silvers...but gold seems very do-able. That Top-Gear Elise race is the only un-fun special event I've found so far.

I guess it's time to do some license tests...I have almost no $ after buying cars to do all the beginner/amateur races. I have only bought one expensive car, a Ferrari...which I can't really use yet since it makes winning too easy.

Also, apparently what people were saying about the car damage was wrong...it's really only implemented for the premium race cars. That makes a heck of a lot more sense than some "progressive" unlock scheme.

EDIT: Finally got gold on the Elise race, yay! It's actually a pretty fun race too...now that I know what I need to do.

No, they look better than PS2 imports and most standards cars look a lot better than the pictures of the two or three standard cars that have been doing the rounds.

And in fairness even though some look poor in still images, but during a race you usually don't look at the windows of the other cars. Not that you really notice the difference anyway.

The standard cars don't look bad at all...the coarser tessellation is noticeable if you look closely though. The reason I don't use them is that I like using the in-car view and it's not implemented for the standard cars. I would be happy if they made 3 or so "generic" in-car views for the standard cars, grocery getter, sports car, and race car. 200 premium cars is still a lot of cars and there's lots of good ones to choose from...definitely worth getting for the premium cars alone.2010-12-02 15:54:00

How do you change the view? I've only had the in-car view all the time I've been playing it, both with standard and premium cars. I thought it said triangle changed the view but I've tried that and it does nothing at all. The manual is less than useless for info.

Also how do you use your own music? It says you can but I can't find any way to do it. Am I missing something?

Select changes view by default.

Custom music is from the options menu, you turn 'Race BGM' on, and then select a playlist to use. It will only play during races though, you can't have it in the menu's.

I drive with Iron Maiden: Somewhere Back In Time playing. Maiden songs from the 80's and fast cars FTW

The default view is what I like to call the disembodied floating entity view...that's not the in-car view. They actually modeled the interiors (dashboard/steering wheel/side mirrors, etc.) for the premuim cars...definitely hit select and try it next time you play...really helps with the immersion.

Why you can't also set up all the audio options from the music note entry point is beyond me. It took me forever to find the audio volume settings in the options menu; music was kinda drowned out by engine noise by default...

Yeah, the options menus are all over the place. If you pause mid-race there's a menu to adjust the amount of exposure. If you turn it all the way down it gets rid of most of the bloom effects and makes the game look much better.2010-12-03 04:24:00

Things like that are making meh over this. That was a feature I was greatly looking forward to and it's nice to know it's 80% absent. Though on the other hand, 200 or so cars is still plenty of different cars to choose from. Just seems like the "1000+ cars!!!!" is really "200 cars plus a few throw in extras and a couple hundred copies of the Nissan Skyline" ... which I suppose is still good enough. That still allows some really nice models from each manufacturer.

Meh pooey. I'll get it if there's a good deal on it.

I've had enough of GT5 already. PM me if you're interested and what you have to swap for it. Bear in mind I'm in the UK so it needs to be the same region. Thanks.

EDIT: Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit would be my ideal choice. I should have gone with that originally. Alternatively a decent RPG as they are my favourite type of game.

It would have been better take a small trip to Brittain, do the swap with you, and get back to Spain... lol.
This game has been my biggest dissapointment since I got my PS3 in 2007.

As always, if you want to have fun online you should play with some friends (.orpeople you know from websites)

no headset allowed (only text chat)....
That's not true, headsets work just fine. Just turn it on and talk.

Got Gold on the first Grand Tour challenge, hardest bit of the game so far!

dunno how anyone can say this is disappointing, I've never had this much fun with a racing game before

Does it? Oh, I'm sorry. I found so many flaws that I thought this was another one.

The game is not a bad racer. The disappointment is mainly that it has remained the same as it was in GT5 prologue. Anyway I'm not the only one:

Kinda agree actually. I wasn't at all disappointed cause I kept up to date with it and knew exactly what to expect. I suppose there was too much hype around it, as all hype leads to is disappointment in some form. GT5 was meant to be a taster or 5, so you'd expect it to be similar though. However GT5 does have far superior physics, but still has that pretty shoddy AI from all GT's. I just don't get what people truly expected though, if you know what GT games are like you know what to expect, a driving Simulator, which they delivered. With a ton of stuff on top (Go Karts, Nascar, Course Creator etc). Online needs to be improved, but this games going to be supported with patches and new features for a good while

(excuse my simple language, letters u,d,f don't work on my keyboard, have to copy-paste )

I'm enjoying it, but as a non-hardcore fan I would be a bit more oblivious to the problems. I had GT3 and I hated it so was surprised that I liked this.2010-12-10 20:11:00
