Special thanks to Spark, Ali and Taffey for their invaluable help playtesting the level, and also again to Taffey for taking the photos.

Mini Competition:

There is a secret bit of dialogue with Merlin hidden somewhere in the level. 50xp for the first person to find it.

Thanks! I... I think.

Actually, I have no idea what you mean by that.

For the record, this level bears absolutely no resemblance to the totally terrible Jerry Bruckheimer "King Arthur" Movie.

Thanks for the interest everyone. Hope you enjoy the level.

Thanks B3! I was wondering what was happening on Lost lately and I can see I didn't miss much.

Now for the level.

Salieri, why do you make levels? cause every time you publish one it's pure awesomeness!!!

The story was great! and it wasn't even similar to the original one, what?

The characters were amazing! I especially loved the dragon at the beginning, you really gave it that 3D-ish look. Not only did the characters looked great, but the whole level looked great! your material selection was perfect! corner editing and sticker work was brilliant!

The level's very fun to play and it has a perfect length.I loved the part when you have to knock down the gate thing with the knights,it was my favorite part. The boss battle was fun and original,it's one of the few great boss battles out there.

There isn't much you could say about this level except for...oh yeah,it's freaking amazing and I loved it so much! Yeah, besides those horrible things that makes this level bad,it's actually a decent level.

Try harder next time and maybe you'll make a great level in the future.

Awesome level heres my recap.

Salieri does it once again in another level that pushes the game to its limits! Go on an adventure where you have to find Excalibur, retrieve the Holy Grail, and slay the Dragon as you try to save the Queen from its evil clutches. With crafty gameplay and excellent visuals, this masterpiece is a sight to behold!

Crisis in Camelot
Score: 9.9/10
Rating: :star::star::star::star::star: and a <3
By: salieri (salieriAAX)

Phenomenal

Story: 10/10
Solid dialogue. Clean and edited. Easy to understand and legit.

Music/SFX Choice: 9.5/10
Perfect music transition and choice, but a just little lacking on the SFX side.

Appearance: 10/10
Wow. Everything is polished and amazing. I love your use of the dlc stickers making the whole entire level have a midevil times feeling. Corner editing is great, and looks realistic. The material choice was great (especially the background) it gives it me a feeling I'm looking at a midevil time book. Did I mention these are the best castles I've ever seen?

Creatures/Objects: 10/10
The characters are amazing, I'm pretty sure this is what you're psp-famous for. The dragon looked amazing. The machine where the holy grail is looks midevilish and worked great. The boat was appealing and worked as well. The sword of Excalibur was perfect, you added the touch of pulling it out of the rock. Amazing.

Gameplay: 10/10
Jam packed with three quests, this level is not like most others. I'm still confused how you managed to do it all. Large objects and emitters...? Brilliant In this level I found myself barricading a cave, sailing the ocean, retrieving the Excalibur, finding the holy grail, killing a dragon, and saving a princess. I had no issues. Amazing.

Overall: 9.9/10 (not an average)
This is the best score I've ever given anyone. Ever. You deserve it. This will be top rated/hearted within a month. Spotlighted for sure. Great job. :star::star::star::star::star: and a <3 (you already have my creator heart)

Just so you know, I added this to my review thread (http://bit.ly/bpoglf), you earned my current spotlight!

Thanks a lot to everyone for all your interest and comments.

It's really interesting to see that people really are interested in high scores. I think bubble placement is something I'll have to work on more in the future, as I'm really not very good at it at the moment. I also totally ran out of thermo an couldn't squeeze in a single other bubble, but I'm beginnign to appreciate their importance.

Thanks especially to valmassoi for the extensive review. I'm really pleased you liked it so much and I'm especially glad the background had the desired effect of making the level look kind of story-book-ish. I was sort fo expecting people to ask why the background was cloth like that.

Nobody has yet found the secret dialogue - so that 50XP is still anyone's.

Hi, salieri!

WOW, you created one more epic adventure! My great respect for you genius work! Very cool story line, great characters and beautiful environments. Idea with variable terrains for different quests is very cool and works excellent. I love it! And small puzzles to get more score bubbles is also very cool idea (as some hidden score bubbles). Possibility to quick returning after completing quest is also great idea. Dragon character looks wonderful! And final battle created very cool - new way to defeating enemy and cool safety place. Also you very cool used several myths, and embed it to your story line. So you created cool adventure with excellent story - someone can use it for creating one more fantasy movie!

I could not find secret dialog, shame on me...

I gave you 5 stars and heart! Great work! I just can't imaging what you can create on ps3 with all its possibilities (and new one from LBP2).

The level was OUTSTANDING and really really fun! Every quest was amazing and fun! The boss battle was one of the bestest boss battles what i have ever played in LBP PSP! Every thing in this level looked awsome! I gave it :star::star::star::star::star: and <3. This level is so awsome that it is one of the bestest levels what i have ever played in LBP PSP! Blimey, thanks everyone. I'm pleased the dragon boss has proved successful. I was working completely out of my comfort zone there. Everything else was fairly straightforward, and as I progressed through making the level I got increasingly concerned that when it came to making the boss I wasn't going to be able to pull it off right. I'm especially pleased with the flame breath and the holy grail layer-switch effect. Excalibur doesn't always fire off from exactly the right place but it works ok I think. I wish that I'd had enough thermo to make it die more dramatically, but maybe I'll save that for another boss.2010-10-15 10:58:00

This level is just fantastic! You really out did yourself by turning the DLC costumes into 2D characters! I was beginning to wonder when creators would start creating levels that were completely based off of DLC packs, and you were right on the money!
I loved at the beggining how you can choose different missions that lead up to the last, and the dragon boss fight was unbelievable! How did you manage to emit the swords directly on top of wherever my sackperson grabs? It's just mind boggling!

This is definitley in my top three levels, the boss fight was incredible, and the characters blew me away! They looked WAY better than the costumes, especially Merlin.
I always forget to look for the secret dialouge because I get so into the level.

I loved at the beggining how you can choose different missions that lead up to the last, and the dragon boss fight was unbelievable! How did you manage to emit the swords directly on top of wherever my sackperson grabs? It's just mind boggling!

I used an invisible, thin layer gas connected to a piston controlled by a sensor switch set to directional. I think there is something similar in Ricky3's latest logic pack. I then attached an emitter to the thin invisible gas that emitted the swords when you grab the ground. The emitted swords are propelled upwards using an invisible piston rather than the velocity settings on the emitter to make them travel directly upwards.

I can't believe I'm giving away my secrets so freely...

I can announce that the secret dialogue has still yet to be discovered.

If it has still not been found by the end of today (UK time) I will double the reward to 100XP beginning monday morning.

nope, i found no secret dialogue, can you PM me a clue plzz, i give you a cookie
anyways, PROBABLY THE BEST RPG-LIKE LEVEL I'VE PLAYED SO FAR (as far as i remember)!
here is my small review of the level:

good stuff:
-the freedom, i mean, you could do any quest at any time, even the final one (but obviously it whould be kind of impossible)
-the sword-in-a-rock was a great idea too!
-the portal worked great too, (but unfortunately...it destroyed points for no reason )
-the characters were all with a very good look, and merlins beard was really awsome and... white
-the sky was really awsome, with those cloud-stickers and made of that-sponge-wich-name-i-cant-remember
-the dragon looked great in the final battle and in the intro (in my opinion) it was the best use of 3D in LBP PSP that i've ever seen since that memorial to destiny in AFP's "destiny"
-gameplay was good and i loved the trees that fell when sackboy, and the two other guys tried to find the graal( but, now that i think about it, that isnt part of the gameplay)

the bad:
-a little lack of sound effects, but nothing to worry about, ofc
-i didnt managed to get to the high scores
-... (i cant remember anymore )

OVERALL:
it was THE RPG-like level!
99.9/100

(BTW, could you give feedback in my blueblox (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=36050-blueblox-***spotlighte*******) level, plz,i meann only if you want and you got nothing better to do but it whould make me happy )

Edit: Congrats on the spotlight!

What's up Salieri? I'm here to give you a Feedback Cookie. I hope you like it because it was made fresh from my hands. Heh. Sorry it took me awhile to post feedback, but in all honesty, it gets boring to type up something long. Though, you know it must mean a lot if I still took my time time to do it for. Let's go less on this introduction and more onto your feedback now.

At the very moment the level begins, you know it's awesome. On the other hand, the moment you see the dragon will not only drop my jaw, but Zeus himself. The introduction is like "WTF! THAT IS *Place curse word here* AWESOME!!!!one!!1!" You did a terrific job on keeping a scene moving along. The castle was well designed and stickering was good. Your character's sticker work is the best. I liked the knights and Merlin the most. The flag representing each mission was well corner edited as well. I also enjoyed how each mission grabbed will play a certain sound effect. (Dragon roar, sword unsheathing, the choir hitting a note.)

I chose to locate the holy ggrail first. I liked how you implemented a side quest to find those knights to open a path for Merlin. It was pretty awesome. I liked how you helped them push the log too and the trees would be rammed and fall. Original in LBP. The scenery was delicate as well. My favorite area is held during this quest as well, the room containing the holy grail. I looked at the obstacle and dropped my jaw. It was very medievil like and impressive. I liked how you made a shortcut back as well.

The mission for obtaining the excalibur was pretty adoring as well. The part with the boat was cool, nice idea being able to spawn a boat at the pier. The boat looked cool as well. The statue with a hand and excalibur looked pretty amusing. I liked how you made a voice from the fountain talk to you. I like the part where you claim the sword. You make it look like a struggle pulling it as well. It looks so animated and well put. Good job Salieri!! You level is cool and the best part comes soon.

The last quest, to slay the dragon. I like how the mountain formation looks. The nice effect of fire added to it made it reflect a dangerous vibe. It was cool. Sticker work is still ridiculously good. Bubbles kept coming as well. I liked the fact you made the boss's health reset if you die. Now the best fight I've experience comes into play. It's pretty easy to get use to his tactics. His Signature Flame move is AWESOME. I was impressed. That holy grail works like a charm, and all it does is really bring you one layer back. XD That is original, who would have thought of that. I like the effect when you shoot an excalibur at the dragon's chest. It was an outstanding fight. Best one I have seen yet. The ending is a happily ever after. (No credit for me? I hate you Arthur! XP) I couldn't find any secret dialog, but I found 2 stickers and took them off. I'm not sure if anything special happens... but the dragon popped out of nowhere since my last play. Maybe I'm tripping? Or was this the secret? I think I'm tripping. 0_o

Well, I guess I'll gove a crack at your rating now, Salieri.

Length: 5/5 (3 Missions, one level. Now tell what you think. XP)
Material: 5/5 (Materials evoked a prehistoric feeling. Awesome.)
Sticker Work: 5/5 (It was lame, I mean look at those characters. Kidding, it was luminous.)
Corner Editing: 5/5 (Obviously you must be blind if you didn't see the characters.)
Terrain/Mechanics: 5/5 (Dude, I wondered how the heck did you pull of 3 lands changing. Then I observed the level and I think I see...)
Story: 5/5 (The story was crazy. Loved the dragon!)

Total: 30/30 Perfect Score!!

You rock Salieri! You amused me immensely with the boss fight.
With that said, you earned 5 stars :star::star::star::star::star: and a heart. <3

It's great to see you building. Can't wait to play a level from you again.

Congrats on the Spotlight Salieri! I would have posted sooner, but I was detained by a most horrendous beast (http://i900.photobucket.com/albums/ac207/tross13/c892dbb0.png).

What better way to celebrate your new-and-improved moniker than with an epic level like this one? Great stuff, just really fun all around. I loved every cartoony, questing, dragon-battling moment. This is what a level should be!

Congrats on the spotlight and thank you for making such a gem of a level. I want to start my feedback by saying what a brilliant choice to use the back thin layer as a canvas for stickers. Of course this could not have been done without your meticulous sticker work. It really sold the storybook setting. Everything else was perfectly crafted to flesh out the medieval world. The characters were interesting and drawn well. The dragon was awesome and fighting him even awesome...r.

I enjoyed the story and the creator side of me marveled at the quest switching mechanism. Another thing that I think it did for me was keep the whole thing fresh. While you did have to go back to switch the quests, I never felt like I was back tracking too much, a problem that plagues story levels. All the extra details in the events like Excalibur going in and out of the stone elevated this level to one of my favorites.

The last thing I want to say is I like the fact that you were able to add scoring elements into your level. It gave me a reason to go through it a few extra times. Plus, even though there wasn?t a huge amount of bubbles. There was enough of challenge to prevent it from being maxed out easily.

Thanks thanks thanks to everyone.

A couple of people have said something about a cool 3D effect in the intro. I don't actually know what you mean. If I've done anything particularly cool there I would be the first to admit it was a total accident.

This is your best level so far. The storytelling element in the gameplay is well done. The branching path works great. Each "quest" looks and feels unique. And the flapping dragon looks incredible.

Rock on, Donkey Kong.

Simply Epic ^^
The only sort of secret I found in there was the random sackperson trophy sticker. near one of the knights.

P.S. the 3D effect I'm assuming everyone is referring to is the dragon. It appeared to have a rounded off shape kind of. I dont know.. haha.

last time i checked them highscores i was coming 3rd! :]
if found a glitch with this level, you need a checkpoint at the ebtrance to the castle.
hard to explain, but go to the dragon quest then find a checkpoint, go back to the castle and don't fun into a checkpoint, chose another quest then hit retry!
your back at that dragon mountin! try to go back to the castle!
it works for other quests as well.

my advice for salieri is to point a checkpoint at the entrance (if you want to that is (that glitch isn't really a big deal(no really it isn't)))

GGGRRRRAAAAAAAAAAAAGH!

I mean, thanks for spotting that jimydog, and I'm glad you enjoyed the level. I have taken the very painful decision to republish the level. It was on the second page of highest rated... the second page. Ah well, having confidence in your creation is more important than ratings.

Once again, thanks to everyone who has left feedback and registered their appreciation, it means a lot. Still no winner of the XP though ^_^

I haven't finished it yet, just playing... I happened to find a place where merlin says

Oh! Look who it is. Tried to break my system, did you? Thought you'd leave Camelot without being on a quest? Well, you can go to Avalon and fetch Excalibur since you're here. How d'you like them apples?

I was just jumping around in the mountains...
Now I'll finish the level... It's been awesome so far

EDIT: Yay, finished!
Really nice level with the three quests, I have tried to make a level with moving scenery to create the illusion that you would be somewhere else and it is not easy to do... amazingly done in this level
That extra dialogue was awesome, I thought I was screwed when I fell down but that was very clever.
Although I tried to go all the way back after getting the sword but I couldn't since there was that mountain in the way... really smart idea to jump down from there... so I had to go back once more and use the orb.
The visuals were awesome everywhere, you must have spent ages on some parts, everything looks great, especially the characters.

Was that ending some sort of a teaser for a sequel or was it there just to fool us?

Well anyway, :star::star::star::star::star: + <3

Napero! Finally, someone has won the XP. I'm not sure how to award it yet but I'll send it as soon as I work it out...

Anyway, you seem to have somehow got it in quite an unexpected way. I had originally placed that dialogue there because, if people hyperactively mess about with the quest selector, they can end up on no quest, and if they leave camelot on no quest, that's where they end up. I had no idea it was possible to jump over the mountain somehow.

Anyway, thanks for the rest of the feedback too!

Regarding the ending - that was there partly to leave it open to the possibility of a sequal, but also because, while it's not at all clear, the dragon at the scoreboard has actually got lipstick on, stereotypically implying that the dragon has a wife, who is now tragically widowed. It makes it a bit more morally ambiguous. I didn't really put it across at all well, though, because I had no thermo and it was a total afterthought.

WHAT!?!? XD REALLY!?!?
I've done that before! No, I'm not saying I found the dialog, but I messed with the flags to the point where no flag showed up. I thought it was a glitch and NOT a secret. Guess what I did though? Since I thought it was a glitch, I just had the urge to make the flag show back up so I can feel normal. (OCD?) Anyways, I didn't think that would happen though! Wow, that is very creative Salieri.

Salieri! Howdy! Soooo I finally got a chance to boot up LBP PSP for the first time in months (new full-time job + RL craziness = very little LBP time), and this was one of the first levels I played upon my return. A simply amazing level! As always I love the sackpeople characters you create, and the visuals throughout were top notch- the dragon was awesome and I loved the little intro bit.

The quest system you implemented and the way it changes the terrain is brilliant, I've never seen anything quite like that before. I also like that you threw in some score bubbles this time around ;D

The boss fight was also awesomely epic! Brilliantly constructed!

Thanks for making yet another amazing level, Salieri! This one's a heart for sure.

Hey, well I played your level but at this point I don't think you need any more praise, this level is amazing and you must realize that by now with like 60+ responses and a spotlight. So...

Earlier I asked how you made your characters and you thanked it probably thinking it was a compliment (which it definitely is, don't get me wrong), but I was wondering if you actually had any tips on character creating haha. Are all those characters 1 piece, just stickered really well? Do you make your characters big and then shrink them for detail? Are they all the same material? Are there any stickers you use mainly? How long about does it take to make one?

Sorry if this sounds odd or anything, its just that the characters I make are all ugly and I was just looking for some advice, if you can't or don't want to don't worry about it.

l really enjoyed it on how amesome the level construction was and how you had your person apart of the story, it was very interactive because you could choose what quest you wanted to do first. The dragon, sword, and grail was amesome. I actually felt like l was a knight, the visual effects was good, sound effects was good, everything was good absoulty amazing.2010-10-30 08:23:00

Hey, sorry for ignoring your question the first time round, I probably just didn't read it porperly.

I usually make a character by making a big rectangle of black fibre paper, putting the full body sackboy sticker from the concepts category on it, and then draw around it with the corner editor. I then roughly 'draw on' the shape of the character's clothes, and layer whatever stickers I can find on top to get the right look. Usually far more stickers than most people would imagine that go into making the characters look just how I want them.

Hey don't worry about it, no big deal. And you must be amazing with stickers to pull those off. I particularly remember the skeleton/knight thing from Curses being outstanding and always wondered how it was done.

Man, nobody makes a quest level like you sir. Great story telling, and awesome tech go a long way in your creations. And as always, everything is very well constructed and appealing. Sorry it took so long to feedback, but I'm just getting back into the swing of things again on the psp. Congrats on the spotlight too, well deserved!2010-11-04 01:48:00

Man, you did such a great job with this level, definitely one of my favorite from you. I really liked the character designs, the bost battle, and the unique mechanics such as the task switching. Keep up the good work!2010-11-11 21:42:00
