So I was thinking today...

So today, I was thinking about games I played when I was really little. One that especially came to mind was 'Animal Crossing' for the Nintendo Gamecube. I remember that you could buy these collectible cards from stores, and, using an E-Reader with your Gameboy Advance, you could scan these cards for new clothing, furniture for your house, etc. etc. I really missed the fun of opening the packs of cards and scanning them for new content. Then, I had an idea: What if Media Molecule did something similar; release LBP cards with, maybe costumes, materials, or objects on them. Then, you could scan them using some sort of device (Playstation Scan? lol.) on your PSP while it's connected to the PS3 (or maybe you could scan them and download them through the PS store on the PS3 later) and then a notification would pop up: "X material Obtained!" or something like that. It might be a smart business move for Mm or Sony too, considering the most rabid LBP fans (such as myself) would go through packs and boxes of cards just to get that one special material that would be perfect for their level. Sony wouldn't have to limit it to LBP, either. New car cards for GT5, new uncharted content, modnation racers, content... Just a thought I had. | 2010-10-11 22:24:00 Author: littlebigmeteor Posts: 396 |
Thats something that Sony would need to implement in PSStore | 2010-10-11 22:39:00 Author: Shadowriver Posts: 3991 |
Why use scanning when you can just use unique codes on the back of the cards? Anyway, this is a first class idea. They should add costumes, materials, and maybe even new 3D objects! | 2010-10-11 22:50:00 Author: grayspence Posts: 1990 |
Reminds me of yugioh to much that i play... i don't want to buy pack after pack after pack of cards trying to get one outfit and end up with a load of junk i already had and still not the outfit i wanted xD Its not a bad idea but i sooner just want more DLC in general and buying 100% just what i want and not leave it to chance~ Dx | 2010-10-11 22:56:00 Author: Lord-Dreamerz Posts: 4261 |
Actually, fumetsusozo has a good point. I would want to waste money on things I dont want! | 2010-10-11 23:00:00 Author: grayspence Posts: 1990 |
1. The E-Reader didn't sell very well so it was only on sale for like 1 year 2. It's easier to just buy them off of PSN BUT it would be great for people who don't have internet! All the way with this idea!!! EDIT: They can just make cards and just use the PSEye camera | 2010-10-11 23:05:00 Author: Jord-bord Posts: 153 |
Yea even if your tired of getting the same items over and over again you can just buy it off of ebay. | 2010-10-11 23:07:00 Author: Unknown User |

All the way with this idea!!! Ah, but that's the fun of it. You WON'T know what you get. You could trade... I know plenty of people with PS3's. Yeah, you could use codes. That's harder than scanning, but much easier than buying some sort of scanner. Not like I mind entering codes, though. Yeah, the ps eye would work. Almost like the level codes they have now for LBP2. Scan it like those, and a bubble falls on you with your item. | 2010-10-11 23:08:00 Author: littlebigmeteor Posts: 396 |
There would be some loading of the prize bubble involved and they would have to make it so that if you use a code it detects where your sackboy is and spawns the prize. | 2010-10-11 23:10:00 Author: Unknown User |
Um. Buy it off PSN. Yeah. | 2010-10-11 23:34:00 Author: Sack-Jake Posts: 1153 |
It might be a smart business move for Mm or Sony too, considering the most rabid LBP fans (such as myself) would go through packs and boxes of cards just to get that one special material that would be perfect for their level. So basically you are asking Sony to start a system where we pay more for DLC and reduce our chances of getting the DLC we want, as well as have materials, costumes, etc., that only certain "lucky" or obsessive players have access to? No offense, but this has absolutely zero in common with the Play, Create, Share motto and system that's currently in place. I'd never support anything remotely similar to this kind of a system. Making collectible cards is one thing... attaching a DLC money making scheme to it is another entirely. If it ain't broke... don't fix it. | 2010-10-11 23:35:00 Author: Rustbukkit Posts: 1737 |

Again, I was just thinking. I know... I just think it is a way for us to spend more money... which I'm against (I like to keep as much of it as I can for food, bills, etc. ) I do like the idea of colletible cards, just not the idea of attaching in-game content codes that will exclude other people who either can't afford the cards, or might not even have access to them from a local retailer. At least with buying DLC online... most people can find a way to plug in and buy what they want every once in a while. Some stores would refuse to carry the cards... heck, even some smaller towns might not have a gaming store that would sell these kinds of things. I just think there are too many negative variables involved. Just my opinion. | 2010-10-11 23:45:00 Author: Rustbukkit Posts: 1737 |
Most popular standard for card codes in gaming is QR codes and LBP2 already using them for levels, they optical codes so they just need normal camera to read (Playstation Eye), for example here QR code for my Tetris level: http://chart.apis.google.com/chart?cht=qr&chld=L|1&chs=512x512&chl=http://beta.lbp.me/v/ym-y I didn't test it but i expect those codes in reality are containing urls to LBP.me page of the level, so any universal QR code reader will open bowser to LBP.me page of the level. But again, it's something that Sony would need to implement in to PSStore, since they are the ones who deal with DLC distribution technology and form of it. Also QR codes are not secure as key item, since normal picture of it may be reused to obtain the item from the store, but this could be solve by covering it with something on pre-sale stage | 2010-10-11 23:46:00 Author: Shadowriver Posts: 3991 |
^ yeah that would be awesome ! Like those codes or like a level you enter and its like a claw machine with lots of bubble in! | 2010-10-12 19:12:00 Author: Sim725 Posts: 247 |
BUT it would be great for people who don't have internet! It'd be useless for people who don't have internet, they couldn't download the patches to enable the new content. I don't know, cute idea and all, but this game has enough marketing tricks and tons of DLC, I think they should just stick to buying stuff off of the PSN store. Something like this would repel more customers than it would attract. | 2010-10-12 19:22:00 Author: Foofles Posts: 2278 |
Uh, huge problem. What's stopping someone from copying the code and posting it on the internet, for everyone to print and scan for free stuff? | 2010-10-12 19:42:00 Author: Arkei Posts: 1432 |
Uh, huge problem. What's stopping someone from copying the code and posting it on the internet, for everyone to print and scan for free stuff? Uhh, being able to use every code only one time, like they do with PSN cards? (and pretty much everything that involves codes) It would be useful IF they sold these cards around here. But we don't have PSN cards over here so I doubt it. | 2010-10-12 19:46:00 Author: gdn001 Posts: 5891 |
Good money making idea but it would get really annoying if you got the same things over and over again whilst trying to get a costume you wanted. I'd prefer if they stuck with normal DLC on the ps store. | 2010-10-12 22:15:00 Author: ADS_LEGEND Posts: 140 |
