ShamgarBlade's Sketches, Photos, etc. [No Requests For Now]

Hello Guys! I got so many nice comments about that one sketch I posted that I decided to make a thread for random sketches I decide to do. I hope you all enjoy them. -------------- For right now, there will be No Requests. However, every now and then I might pick a random sackperson I see and choose to sketch it. -------------- Here's what I got for now: ShamgarBlade http://i743.photobucket.com/albums/xx77/jo30jodin/ShamgarBladeSackboy-1.png Sack and a Butterfly http://i743.photobucket.com/albums/xx77/jo30jodin/Sackboy-2.png Sackboy Created http://i743.photobucket.com/albums/xx77/jo30jodin/SackboyCreated-1.png Ezio Auditore Sackboy http://fc06.deviantart.net/fs71/f/2011/013/4/5/ezio_auditore_meets_sackboy_by_shamgarblade-d374jrl.png Zim http://fc04.deviantart.net/fs71/f/2011/016/d/5/zim___sackgirl_by_shamgarblade-d37anzd.png Me! It's great to see you made your own thread for your drawings after seeing the awesome job you did drawing your sackboy. I love the other drawings too and am imagining the one of Ninjaferret22 like she's pretending to rob a bank and you could have two sackboys on the ground playing dead. | 2010-10-11 14:57:00 Author: Dragonvarsity Posts: 5208 |

Great job at the pixel art, I'd love to see more. Also, your latest drawing is amazing. The sackperson's right(or our left) hand goes to the piece of rock a bit akwardly but you still did a great job with him and the environment feels so nice and calming. The choice of colors is brilliant aswell. Definitely one of my favorites if not my favorite drawing by you so far Shamgar. | 2010-11-05 21:00:00 Author: Dragonvarsity Posts: 5208 |

http://i743.photobucket.com/albums/xx77/jo30jodin/Practice.png?t=1293500420 You drew that completely with a tablet? it looks like a real drawing with a dark blue-ish pencil or something.. :O It's been so long since you last posted any art here... http://i743.photobucket.com/albums/xx77/jo30jodin/SackboyandZelda-1.png Thanks guys, I'll try to post more periodically if possible. Oh and a question for those who own and use tablets (such as Zim or NinjaFerret): When you are using the tablet, do you draw on paper first and then trace it onto the tablet, or do you just draw straight onto the tablet for your drawings? The one I just posted was using the tablet only. Thanks! (The eye is a little big now that im looking at it... grrr) | 2010-12-28 05:23:00 Author: ShamgarBlade Posts: 1010 |
My gosh! Where did all this talent come from!? Sir, you have yourself an absolutely amazing drawing there. Great proportions and everything. I believe Zim draws it all on her tablet...I could be wrong though. And Ninja draws it on paper then draws over and colors on her tablet sometimes. | 2010-12-28 16:18:00 Author: eagerneph Posts: 1536 |
I hope it's okay if I critique this. The eyes are good and like Sackboy's, not very complex but still good, I do agree one of the eyes are a bit too big. I can see it as trying to show depth but it would be better if the size of the eye was a tad smaller. The ehad's pretty good, might be a bit chubby but still, not bad. The zipper isn't exact but that doesn't really matter, I do like how you made it. Unless that's just how you want it and don't wanna make it just like sackboy which is also fine, the legs in your drawing don't connect like they would for sackboy. Here is how it would http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=28705 Besides that, I do think you are getting real good with proportions Shamgar and you're already real good on the tablet. I also like the little fairy and triforce symbol. Keep up the great work, I can't wait to see more. Thanks guys, I'll try to post more periodically if possible. Well, it depends, really. http://www.sumopaint.com/files/images800/iifaxgzrrrphsikp.jpg http://www.sumopaint.com/files/images800/ixiiiizgeganjiox.jpg http://www.sumopaint.com/files/images800/axaehifzmqqixrnc.jpg All of the sackperson drawings i've ever digitally painted were real-life sketches that i simply scanned and painted over with Sumo without even bothering to use layers or anything. Yes, yes, I know, my methods are very sloppy... | 2010-12-28 17:08:00 Author: Dragonvarsity Posts: 5208 |

I don't recommend my usual method because it's a bit inefficient.. The most clean and fast way to draw with a tablet is to simply draw digitally from scartch with it. (also, I feel that's one of the main benifits of having a tablet. The whole reason I got one was so I didn't have to scan a real-life sketch and color it in digitally with a mouse anymore. ) Not all programs are good for digital sketching though; i recommend Paint Tool SAI. And that's a very cute sackboy you drew there. (i'm not going to critique it though, since dragon already did) | 2010-12-28 19:50:00 Author: Ninjaferret22 Posts: 1403 |

Nah... that's his "awesome style" if you ask me xD but then again maybe it wasn't on purpose? either way i like it more as it is now :3 Yeah, I have nothing against people doing their own styles, sometimes I'll like that more but I just posted the critiques just incase he might've wanted to make it just like Sackboy and to improve | 2010-12-28 20:38:00 Author: Dragonvarsity Posts: 5208 |
When you are using the tablet, do you draw on paper first and then trace it onto the tablet, or do you just draw straight onto the tablet for your drawings? The one I just posted was using the tablet only. Thanks! I do everything on the tablet. Did you mean draw it on paper first, scan it, and then trace it over with the tablet on a drawing program? If so, then no, I don't usually do that, although a lot of people do. Just do whatever you feel comfortable with. And as for the drawing, it's awesome, except the left eye should be bigger and they should be a little bit farther apart. Great job, though, I love it. | 2010-12-28 20:38:00 Author: TheZimInvader Posts: 3149 |
Thanks for all of the advice guys! It's very encouraging. As of right now, I don't have much of a specific "style" in mind for my drawings, yet. I'm hoping to discover that as I keep drawing. About the legs, I think I might change them juuusst a little, but I don't want to make them exactly the same as the game. I don't like drawing the legs as an "attachment" to the body. I want them to look like they're part of the body as a whole. So far I have been more comfortable with drawing directly onto the tablet. I'm going to experiment with drawing on paper and scanning, but I have a feeling I'll return to the tablet alone. Thanks guys! | 2010-12-28 21:04:00 Author: ShamgarBlade Posts: 1010 |

(ugh... I didn't want to triple post, but I have something new to show you guys.) Ezio Auditore meets Sackboy. For right now, there will be No Requests. However, every now and then I might pick a random sackperson I see and choose to sketch it. http://fc04.deviantart.net/fs71/f/2011/016/d/5/zim___sackgirl_by_shamgarblade-d37anzd.png Hope you like it. ^^ I find I'm still having some trouble finding the height and width of the sackboy/ sackgirl when I'm drawing it. Any tips? | 2011-01-16 09:22:00 Author: ShamgarBlade Posts: 1010 |
As I already said on deviantART, awwwwwesooooome, and thanks again! As for the width and height...You could try studying official Sackboy art (like a 3D render of him, or concepts on the LittleBIGPlanet site) and take reference from those. I usually just make it up on the spot, but since I've done it so much already, I manage to keep a pretty consistent height/width each time. Just remember that the tips of the fingers should reach down to the knees. Oh, and if you're drawing digitally and want to see if your artwork has any errors, try flipping it - Seeing the mirrored version gives you a new view of the image, so mistakes stick out more easily. | 2011-01-16 20:05:00 Author: TheZimInvader Posts: 3149 |
These are all really good, Shamgar. Out of all of them, I really enjoyed your butterfly sackboy and the creation of sackboy. I used to try scanning and then tracing, but I got fed up with it due to all the hassle and gave up on digital art completely. Only recently have I picked up my tablet, and I've gotten to where I draw best free-handed on photoshop I tend to make my sackperson pictures a bit more humanoid than I probably should, especially the head-to-body proportion. Sometimes I'll edit the face out and rezize it about x5 times and stick it back on the body, lol. That normally throws it back into sackboy proportion. The fun in drawing sackboy is that he's really such an oddly shaped creature that you can tweak with various things and have him still look like sackboy. I hope you don't mind a small critique, but I would recommend experimenting with textures some. I'm not sure if I'm really using them correctly, so I won't go on and on about it, but it can really give your artwork a realistic feeling to it. Good luck, and keep up the good work! edit: Ugh, sorry for the wall of text. I payed more attention to your Zim picture, and the only thing a bit off with it I can tell is that her head could be a bit larger and her arms longer. Good advice I got awhile back was to remember sackboy's arms go roughly down to his knees if he's standing regularly. Good job on the hatching, by the way. | 2011-01-17 02:09:00 Author: RottenAvocado Posts: 319 |

That's cute, Shamgar. Reminds me slightly of jump_button's Sky Town levels. Hmm.. You know... It does. :/ And I know jump_button's a little sensitive about people taking ideas from him. (Even though I didn't use anything from him as inspiration for this.) If I ever do make an LBP level involving this, I will probably focus more on the "cloud" aspect of the pic. It would be cool to see little sackboy running atop the clouds with the fluffs flying up behind him. | 2011-02-07 04:31:00 Author: ShamgarBlade Posts: 1010 |

Photoshop's filters sure are fun to mess around with, huh? Nice job, as usual. haha ya, that was my first time using photoshop. I think i'm going to stick with that because i can get more layer that way. (this pic only used 1 layer) | 2011-03-15 03:01:00 Author: ShamgarBlade Posts: 1010 |
I had a ton of fun with this one! I listened to Zelda music the whole time I was drawing this. http://th00.deviantart.net/fs71/PRE/f/2011/080/d/5/skull_kid_by_shamgarblade-d3c6e7h.png | 2011-03-22 02:18:00 Author: ShamgarBlade Posts: 1010 |
Is that an actual Zelda character or did you make it up yourself? Either way it's pretty cool Only thing that bugs me is the neck, looks to skinny imo. I think it'd look grreat with some really strong dramatic shading as well. | 2011-03-22 02:30:00 Author: SR20DETDOG Posts: 2431 |

From the N64 game: Zelda - Majora's Mask. http://www.zeldawiki.org/images/3/37/Skull_Kid_MM.png His neck is actually a lot shorter/non-existant than how I drew it. :/ I didn't pay attention to that as I was drawing. | 2011-03-22 03:07:00 Author: ShamgarBlade Posts: 1010 |
Nice Skul Kid picture. I loved majora's mask so much. It was darker and more unique then some of the other installments. Besides WindWaker, I really think the franchise should stick with the darker, gloomier style from MM and TP. Heh, I can hear Kid's theme in my head when I look at that picture. | 2011-03-22 12:57:00 Author: RottenAvocado Posts: 319 |

just saw that you had taken down/changed the name of "the boy and his fairy" :o i was waiting for that project to come out, the title sounded cool and that poster lokos wicked for it too. Ya. That project has been cancelled for now. (Mainly because I have lost all motivation for it.) However, I've got an idea that may revive it. I may need your help though skal. It's gunna involve a movie intro. | 2011-05-22 03:58:00 Author: ShamgarBlade Posts: 1010 |
