LBP Server Status

Sam Protagonist from Sony has posted the following on the Playstation Underground forums.


The LittleBigPlanet servers are now up and running, however there may be some ongoing configuration work that needs to be carried out in order to keep the sharing side of the game running smoothly. There may be some limited interruptions to the service as a result of this, but we do not believe any outages will be longer than 10 minutes, and this should only be an issue for the first few days at the most.

Of course, no changes may be needed at all, in which case please disregard the above, however I'd sooner mention the possibility of this happening in advance than it take you by surprise.

Server Status

We're aware of some performance issues with the servers at present, and investigations are ongoing to resolve these issues. Apologies for any frustration this may cause in the meantime.

Actually Stix for me last night when the servers came up it was fine, I was playing a few levels with Absinthe who is in Washington State and there was no lag at all and the voice chat worked perfectly. The issues arose when everyone in the USA got home from work and school and slammed the servers, so hopefully with some tweaking they will be good all the time. If not it should still be alright for us Aussies as we play mainly when the USA is sleeping.

So servers are down yet again but hopefully will be back up and running soon because today is the day for alot of people. As far as lag, last night I was getting alot of lag but that would be when playing with people you don't know online just joining a party. When joining with friends I had no problems. Its the unknown people that sometimes slow things down much like on any other game, and any other system.2008-10-28 17:37:00

The LittleBigPlanet servers have been experiencing significant problems throughout the past 24 hours affecting the online game experience. We are working round the clock on the solution to the current issues and we expect the service to improve very shortly.

Offline Play and Create will still function properly during any disruption.

Go onto the game, and then press the ps button, going onto the xmb. Then go to your username on the friends list, press triange and sign out. Then sign in again, and that may work.
Oh, and ps.

Nothin'...

My wife and I finished the story levels last night, and we're currently about halfway though completing all levels with 100% of the items and without dying. That, plus create mode, should keep us busy for a *few* more days.

Of course, we won't be able to play the few parts which require 3 or 4 players (not enough controllers, sigh)... but, c'est la vie...		2008-10-29 22:34:00

Luckily I've been swamped in Story and Create Mode too much to really notice.

I was about an hour ago at the most and it came back on, no lag at all apart from the obvious little bits you get every now and again on every online game, I played with Pinky and it didn't lag then either, and it was at its worst when playing with others for me. They've really fixed a lot. I hope it keeps up now.2008-10-30 00:20:00

Yeah there's no point in me playing because after I beat the first level it was hung on trying to submit my high score and wouldn't save it. I'm afraid that if it can't connect to the server it won't save my progress at all

Just play offline. Sign out of PSN, or don't log into the LBP servers when it asks you to. It'll still save your progress.		2008-10-30 07:41:00

I'd like to remind everyone that servers dropping is normal for every online game at launch. Sony are handling it surprisingly well, considering they bring them back up in less than a day, including patch fixes.

Every online game is bound to have lag and server issues at the start. It's not like the Beta was able to handle so many users like retail did. They can only assume and predict by theory, but when it comes down to practice, this happens, and it's perfectly normal. So chill out, whoever's getting impatient, because you can expect this to happen for the next couple of days.

Oh, and don't be surprised if they have weekly scheduled server maintenance. 		2008-10-30 08:05:00

I think it somehow connected the first time I put in the disc, and so it was trying to hit the server for my high score and hung. When I restarted the game it failed from the get go to get on the server and so it didn't try to submit my high score. I got to the second creator

Unfortunately, I'm totally exhausted so it's bedtime now. With all this server business, how do they expect to give people enough time to get the first week costumes?

I can connet to the servers just fine. If the servers are giving you problems, simply sign out of PSN before you play the game. That way you won't even connect to online, and it will run smooth		2008-10-30 15:58:00

It seems the last two days have been pretty, pretty, pretty good. I've had a few times where lag was an issue, but other than that it is working crystal clear. I'm glad they got it all fixed, but I am still shocked the beta ran so well in comparison. I assume they didn't have enough people to properly stress-test the serves.

All in all, it runs great and is amazing. Now, if only 80% of the levels were not unplayable / annoying. ;-)

Please note the LittleBigPlanet online servers will be down for essential maintenance on Thursday November 6th between 12am and 9am PST. During this period the offline game will be unaffected as we work to improve online performance. So keep playing or creating and we'll have some shiny new servers ready for when we get back.

Servers seem to be down I reset my system 4X and I keep getting the same error. Whats worse is that I cannot access any of the MGS content for the creation of my new level. There have been quite a few bugs with the last update, hopefully they fix things soon.2008-12-27 03:07:00

Restarting my PS3 got rid of the 403 error and let me log in, but it was still kind of slow and laggy, especially when trying to rewind in create mode. Seems to be running smoother now though.2008-12-27 08:16:00

Yeah I am finding the server and general online smoothness is going down hill. Quite often now I can`t get online at all. What I do find more annoying is when you`ve spent ages passing a hard level or achieved a great score and it pops up "uploading score failed" ... arghh.. this seems to happen about 25% of the time now.. I've gotten this at random intervals while working on my level. Generally when going from Play Mode back into Create Mode. It's more than a little annoying.		2009-01-05 14:30:00

I SUSPECT the white screen has something to do with server access based on recently added features. For instance, object tracking through the internet. It is definately irritating, however it seemed to get a lot better when I went through and removed a lot of the junk prize objects I had been inadvertantly collecting. A friend of mine who tried this had a similar experience. Or it could be our imagination...

The "could not connect to player" and connectivity errors are getting REALLY irritating. I co-test and give feedback for multiplayer levels with other authors on this site, and it is getting very frustrating not being able to connect to them for hours at a time.		2009-01-06 19:36:00

Yeah I am finding the server and general online smoothness is going down hill. Quite often now I can`t get online at all. What I do find more annoying is when you`ve spent ages passing a hard level or achieved a great score and it pops up "uploading score failed" ... arghh.. this seems to happen about 25% of the time now.. (maybe its just me)

That's been happening to me too. Don't worry, you're not alone!

Anyone else finding themself logging off PSN then logging back in just so they're signed out of LBP's online when they go into Create Mode? While connected, it takes about half an hour to undo.		2009-01-11 16:14:00

Of course I've ben having a lot of similar isues that you guys have. Here's a list of online bugs I've been encountering (from most annoying/irritating to least)

1) FAILED TO CONNECT TO PLAYERS. This started with one person and spread, while affecting me inviting, me joining, my friends inviting, and my friends joining. Now I can't play with about 80%-90% of the people on my friends list. I REALLY hate this son of a...

2) "You have been signed out of the Playstation Network". This used to happen frequently a couple of weeks ago but hasn't happened lately. I'm not sure if LBP is the cause of this or not. I'm sure it's not my connection because I'm using wireless with 75% signal strength at 1.5Mb/s. I've never see any real lag (aside from "time lapses" where the game speeds up to compensate for the desynch).

3) "Game diverged" or "Game disappeared" disconnection errors. This happens about 15% or 20% of the time, usually more frequently when playing with more people.

4) When inviting someone, the button changing from "Cancel Invite" to "Invite" at least twice before I actually see "So-and-so joining."

5) White screen delay when loading a level. It always seems to be me that's delayed, because it's rare that I'm the one who has to wait for a player to pass through the entrance. This happens about 40% of the time and lasts at least 20 seconds. If you press the PS button then go back to the game, you can the see network loading icon in the bottom left.

6) Random major glitches, such as network messages piling up on a white screen and not being able to close them out. This happens very rarely for me.

And here are some bugs I've heard about but haven't encountered:

1) Unable to connect to server (403) error. I've never had this happen to me, which is surprising seeing all the people in this thread having that problem.

2) Unglue glitch. This hasn't happened to me yet and I really really hope it never does.

3) Level not publishing/reverting from published version to My Moon. I keep a backup of my current level in my crater and also back up my LBP save to a flash drive often.

I've also noticed there's always network activity when creating levels, saving them, and undoing/redoing. Sometimes undoing can take a while as the network acess icon appears in the bottom left. Does anyone know why the editor is constantly accessing the servers? Can this explain why versions of levels are being reverted from the servers to My Moon for some people?		2009-01-16 20:49:00

I phrased that wrong. I've never regularly played such a laggy online game. But all my main games i play online; MGS4, CoD4/5, Resistance 2, Burnout; they're all pretty stable all the time. I get terrible lag with LBP. Additionally, the amount of bugs in creating/sharing surpasses any amount in any other games i own.		2009-01-17 00:18:00

Same here bindibaji. Just tried about 10 times but it won't connect. Keep getting the Error 403 message.

It's been very bad for the last week though with levels taking ages and ages to load and losing the connection all the time. I had 3 0r 4 total crashes again yesterday and now it's not working at all.

It's all very well MM bringing out these updates but they ought to concentrate on the Major problems first. After all what good are updates even if they're brilliant ones if you can't even play the game in the first place.		2009-04-17 11:12:00

Just been working on a level for the last couple of hours and then just testing it when I got signed out of the network.

I tried to sign back in and it came up with a message saying the playstation network is undergoing maintenance. If all that work is lost when I manage to sign back in again I'll be well and truly peed off.

It would be nice if they gave us at least a couple of minutes notice that they are going to do that so we have time to save first. It can't be that difficult for them to do that surely.

Seriously, its really unstable today. It only works when it feels like it. Works for 15 mins and then it's gone. Comes back! 15 mins later it's gone again.
