Lonely Sickness?

Archive: 17 posts

Why do people get "sick" if they aren't in human contact for a long period of time? When I say "sick" I mean like insane.2010-10-10 23:11:00

Probably.

I've read a lot about it, and haven't you noticed that homeless people aren't always right in the head?

That's probably because they have no one to talk to, and all they do is think.

Thinking leads to insanity.

Trust me, it is a long drawn out process, but you would be better off not knowing about it...2010-10-11 01:51:00

Thoughts build up, and it can hurt your psyche by not being able to vent them in some way, like writing, talking, etc.2010-10-12 19:03:00

Well, I've always thought it has something to do with never being able to talk to anyone.
There's a great Twilight Zone episode where a man is sentenced to a life of 'invisibility' meaning no one is allowed to talk to him. He eventually goes crazy and starts to think that he doesn't even exist since everyone is ignoring him.

I'm sure it's the same in real life.

Humans need Contact with others. Its a part of us.

Humans have evolved into social animals so it is in our nature to co-exist with other humans. Anything that is not in the nature of an animal is sure to have negative effects to a certain extent. Animals such as tigers are solitary hunters and therefore exist perfectly fine on their own.2010-10-12 19:10:00

Even so even tigers have to come in contact or have been in contact with another Tiger at one point in their lives.
Hmm...

Tiger1: so...whats up?
Tiger2: Nothing much, you?
Tiger1: same old thing, you know just huntin' stuff.

*They stare at each other for a while*

Tiger2: we should do this again some time.
Tiger1: yeah, whatever.

*They both walk away*(assuming that the locomotion for tigers is concidered "walking")

XD but seriously we're "concious"so that helps add to the need to be social

We are like ants. If you place an ant away from others, it won't do much before dying. But if you place a large group of them in your backyard they'll start to build a home and do stuff. Where would humanity be if the cavemans lived each on his own?2010-10-12 19:43:00

I don't know if you were being serious or not but..

No animal goes through life 100% alone.
We as homo sapiens especially have evolved to be interdependant on one another. Not just physically, but mentally and socially. Within the past 60,000 years we've evolved this trait so much so that we need to communicate with others for a plethora of reasons. Assurance, acceptance, lonliness, just having someone to talk to, some way to correlate your experiences to let you know that your real. For us, everything is a group.
Interesting fact, we as a species, grow from infants not becoming as attached to our mothers as other species.
Mothers of other animals have sole responsibility over raising the child.
Mothers of our species share that responsibility with the father, grandparents, reletives, etc.
So the baby grows up with the family, not with the mother which helps teach us from a young age to help each other as a group.

Was that good enough? :x

Then later on that day you'll get bored and want to communicate. If you don't belive me go on Facebook.com and ask a guy named Ed Wardle.

Why to ask someone for that? try it yourself, I am usually alone, it gets pretty boring over time and it gets to a point you "need" to talk to some one (or something).2010-10-13 00:26:00
