50 layer glitch

Archive: 9 posts

I can't decide on wether or not I want to use the 50 layer glitch it does have some amazing visual impacts which can make some levels look amzing but then I'm not sure I want to use it you know? I mean there are many levels which make excellant use of the ordinary layers! What you guys think?2010-10-07 21:28:00

If it fits and can make the level better, go for it!

If you thnik you can do just as great with the current layers, then idon't, its not a "must" either m8.

So whichever way YOU thinky you can make it better basically.

I suppose is it difficult to use efficiently? I mean I don't want it taking up loads of thermo?2010-10-07 21:53:00

Well, if you think you'll have enough space then do it m8, remember its the same as building within the regular layers, it won't take "extra termo" because its 3D glitched or anything.

If you're attentive to aesthetics and you have thermo to spare, then there's no good reason not to use the extra layers. I would recommend that you build in the normal layers and then emit your objects/scenery into the glitch layers though. It's a lot easier that way, than buildng stuff in glitch space.2010-10-08 19:17:00

And how exactly do I do this? Build something and save it to an object which has an emitter and then use the glitch to put the object in the background?

1: Build your scenery. Make sure you glue it to some dark matter in order to secure it.
2: Select a foreground layer tool. It's length should match the distance that you want to move the scenery back to.
3: Place the foreground tool next to the scenery and capture all of these together
4: Put an emitter onto a thin square of dark matter, then place this square on the rear thin layer.
4: Pause create mode, and load the captured scenery/foreground tool into the emitter
5: Set the emitter to max emitted: 1, infinite lifetime and time to emit: 3 seconds
6: Unpause for a small fraction of a second before quickly pausing again. Don't let the emitter fire off yet.
7: Move the dark matter square forward to to the front thin layer
8: Unpause the game, let the emitter fire and the scenery will be emitted into the glitched back layers.

Ugh! Here I've been trying to build in the back layers all this time! Glad to hear we can emit into those layers.2010-10-09 19:32:00
