For my new project, im planning to make it dark(not the environment) sad, lonely world. I tried(and failed) to make create music that fits the mood, so im wondering, should i even add music (custom music counts) or not add any?

Which packs do you have? The Monster Pack music goes well if you play around with the sliders (can't say anything else because I don't have it, but I've seen it being used in many dark and sad levels) "Crying Winds" or something like that (I forgot the name now ) is another one for sad environment, and it doesn't require DLC!

It depends, if you're going for a scary type of level, then I say no music. Check out javi_haguse's level, The Descent 2, and you'll see how much better it can make a scary level. But if you really want music, try experimenting with the Wedding theme's Int. music.

But if you really want music, try experimenting with the Wedding theme's Int. music. its not a scary level i can tell you that, hmm how should i describe this, think of a fallout 3 environment in the snow, and have the whole place is in ruins

I say no music... just make sure to add alot of eerie sound effects to make it feel more desolate.

Try "Cries in the Wind," or just mess around with using only the Ambient/FX balancers for different interactive musics. I've found a few of those make pretty good background sounds without having awkward sound objects everywhere.
