ROBO-RAMPAGE X 3Dimo1138
The wait is over, and the epic, multi-part finale to the ROBO-RAMPAGE X series starts here!
Are you up for a challenge? Bring your A-game for this over the top, enemy packed, trap filled finale, and don't forget all the massive robot bosses!

Video (montage by VMethos): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JAKzUAbcIZM

It's been a long time coming, but the end is here. These levels are reccomended for one player, but can be played with two or more payers.

RRX3 starts at the exterior ridge of D-1138's home base, Mt. Fortress. It's up to you to chase him into the depths of the caves, and back to the peak to put a stop to his nefarious plot of world domination.

RRX3 is HUGE! Larger than the original RR series and the previous installments of the RRX series combined!

These levels are CHALENGEING, but with all the style, plus, of the RRX series!

PLUS!!! SUPER AWESOME BONUS SECRET LEVEL BY OUTSTANDINGLY TALENTED SPECIAL GUEST CREATOR, VMETHOS!!!!!

If you make it to the top of Mt. Fortress and stop D-1138's evil plans, you can always check out ROBO-RAMPAGE X 3 (prologue) here: https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=37004-ROBO-RAMPAGE-X-3-(prologue) or the two previous, spotlighted installments of the ROBO-RAMPAGE X series here: https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=7708-ROBO-RAMPAGE-X-(series)-SPOTLIGHTED. If that doesn't quench your thirst for excitement, go to where it all started and get the back-story in the pre-paintinator, original ROBO-RAMPAGE series here: https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=7707-ROBO-RAMPAGE-(series).

Everyone play this. A lot of work went into it. It's very very very hard, like old school video games, but very very very good. And the bonus secret level by Vmethos is awesome. And I'm not just saying that cause i'm sitting at Vmethos' house and typing this on his computer. I watched it all of this come together over the past few months, and it is pure AWESOME!

Also, Dimo, I'm going to see if we can get you some HD video of this. I'll have Vmethos do that at my house tomorrow and upload it.

edit: holy crap... this is epic. it makesme want to use adjectives like bonkers and bananas. if this drops to page 2 in the showcase, i'm bumping it up again til people play it. i failed again and again in part 2 until i got to the boss and died on his 2nd form, but wow, man, wow. i need to take a break, it feels like i'm playing a full game, and i see there's two more locked spots after i exited out... the level linking in LBP2 will be a match made in heaven for this. i will beat these.

bravo.

so far i just wanna say the geometry, the design, the enemies and bosses are killer... the boss in part 1 is out of control. the platforming is precise and perfect. the color combo in part 2 is slick, and i love how your detail and visuals aren't based on a mess of stickers, and oversaturated lighting - it's craftsmanship, instead of smoke and mirrors. ialso like that all this cool stuff is airtight and mechanical without being a big loose bag of overdone logic.

so far the little mine cart thing in part 2 is probably my favorite obstacle ever.

edit: got to level 3... died at the hydra. there's alot of Unfair Platformer surprises that **** me off in these, but in a good way.

now the left side-right side elevator section is my 2nd favorite obstacle ever, and an elevator design that i'm also going to stea... err homage.

I finished most of the series, just hit some snags on the final boss.

The visuals in the series is all very nice and clean and the enemies are very creative and the bosses are generally very cool and well thought out. I like how in all the bosses with multiple layers of plasma the plasma are all different colors, otherwise it'd be mindlessly frustrating. All in all great stuff, and because it's so great I'm still compelled to beat the finale boss.

Ok, some minor issues have been brought to my attention, but they are in the later parts, so I should have them addressed by the time anyone makes it there.

If anyone is having issues with the difficulty, let me know! Many parts that appear difficult may have a really easy way to get past them, and I'd be more than happy to share strategies for certain parts.

These games ARE possible, and usually, like Ninja said, patience is key. These are NOT the types of levels you can just run through. Take the time to examine your surroundings and each situation before you react, and you'll do fine! I beleive in you guys!

Ok, here's me on the final boss (take this anyway you want ):

Alrighty... made it to the final boss... I see there are 2 planes each with different colored plasma... no problam! (jumps down)

Brrrrrrrzzzaappppo!

Ok, here I am back at the checkpoint. Let me take another shot at this. I can tell which layer is front and back by the color. Let me repeat it in my head... yellow front, green back... (jumps down and hits boss several times)

Brrrrrrrzzzaappppo!

Ok, back at the checkpoint again. THIS TIME I'm going to be really cautious and concentrate on one side of the boss. (jumps down and manages to hit the left side heads many times).

Ok.... killed the left side, now the right side... (hits the right side several times)....

THE LEFT SIDE JUST REEMITTED!!!!! What the.....

Brrrrrrrzzzaappppo!

"Replay or Continue".

--------------------------------

My fear on this is that most players, by the time they get the hang of it, will be starting over a fairly lengthy process to get back to the boss. I've got to the final boss (rather easily, mind you) 4 times now. I love the final boss.... and I'm not necessarily saying to make it easier.... but....

Is this about the prologue? If so, each head is set with a motion sensor switch, and only fires when it "sees" you. If you stand on the right, the left heads won't shoot and vice-versa. Hope that helps!

Also, thread for Prologue is here: https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=37004-ROBO-RAMPAGE-X-3-(prologue)

Dimo, I'm going to try to get you some high def pictures today, too, but Pat's not gonna be here until like 6 tonight. He's got to play through the levels for me cause I can't get through them. LOL. But we'll get you some videos, too.

It's very nice to see that these levels are hard. Very few people make extremely hard levels with non infinite check points. I know that this sort of thing often hurts star rating, but that crap is going to go away in lbp2, anyway, so I wouldn't worry about that too much. ^__^

I think your final boss is REALLY hard, btw. lol. I watched Pat try to beat him a few nights ago, and he was dying all over the place. It's a really great idea, though. All your bosses are really imaginative. I wish my brain worked like that.

Also, has anyone found pat's secret level, yet? I made a bad guy in it and I'm excited. ^__^

Alright, having beat the final boss (but not the secret area yet, I'll get to that) I'm ready to give some better feedback on it

I've been a fan of this series since the very first Robo Rampage was published, and this is definitely the pinnacle of the series.

What I like is that the majority of the difficulty comes naturally from well designed enemy patterns. There is a tactic and strategy behind everything, it is genuinely hard and not just senseless spam with luck. I had a few issues with some cheap shots that might get you on your first run through, but they're easy enough to spot after that that it shouldn't be a big deal.

After ironing a few kinks out of the system, it seems to play very well now. I'd just recommend you get some feedback on timing and HP from people of varying trigger-quickness-ness to get an ideal

Thanks, Foofles! Sometimes it's hard for me to gauge how many hits a boss should take, as I think I'm a genetic freak in the sense that my trigger finger can fire so rapidly

With that being said, I will be more than happy to share strategies. So, if you're having a tough time, don't be afraid to say something. In the end, 9 times out of 10, things are way easier than they might appear at first!

I'm thinking of making a "Players Guide." That might help people realize where the weaknesses are, and how to exploit them.

Glad you're liking it so far, despite the chalenges! Out of curiosity, what parts in pt. 3 are giving you difficulties? I'm just curious to know if it's an intended challenge, or if something's borked (I've noticed that what I play on my PS isn't neccesariy what others are seeing) Let me know, so I can either help with strategy, or go and fix something.

no, nothing is failing or malfunctioning. it just takes me forever to get to a boss the first time, and when i do, it's all surprises. every section comes off as a whole new 'ok what do we have here' challenge that needs to be mastered and you might not pass it the first time, or 2nd time.2010-10-04 04:17:00

... or 3rd time, or... well, you know.

I remember struggling quite a bit with Part 3 the first night Dimo had me test it out. The elevator section ruined me on my first attempt, the following enemies saw to it that I needed to start over, and on my third try I made it to the boss but didn't start figuring out the pattern and what layer was safest for certain parts until I had lost most of my lives. Fourth time was the charm... though I don't think that's how the saying goes.

On a slightly different topic:
I managed to get HD video of every level tonight with the help of Sara's (xkappax) video capture setup. However, there's about an hour and a half of video all together, so tomorrow night I'm going to try my hand at editing it down to about 15 minutes or so of various clips of the different levels to show off some of the platforming, the various design schemes, and of course... sections of the epic boss battles throughout the series.

P.S. - The electric crystal mines hold many valuable treasures, keep your eyes open for alternate paths and you may stumble into points, prizes, and other potential secrets.

Can't wait to see the video, Vmethos.

And, he's right. Part 2 holds many secrets. Can't find them? Reveiw the map at the end of the leve, at the first disspearing blocks section. That should give you an idea on where the secret passages are.

Well, I managed to cut the hour and a half or so of footage down to about 7 minutes of clips of various enemies, platforming, and boss fights. I have no editing skills... so it's just segments thrown together without transitions, text, or a cool techno beat and whatnot... but you can view it here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JAKzUAbcIZM

Watch it in HD for best quality of course.

Hey, that came out pretty good! I've never had a video on youtube before Though, I suppose we have to share the glory... Lookin' good, as always, Vmethos.

It'll have to do.

After uploading it I realized how much I hate the fact that it just ends without seemingly any reason... wish I had noticed that earlier. I might have been able to find something that we recorded that would have been a better farewell without giving away any story or the cool rolling credits you have after the final final boss. ... Oh well. Live and learn.

Why are you playing as BoxGhost in that video, Mr. VMethos? You tryin' to copy me?

I should have let you edit it on my mac. That watermark on the vid is going to bug the living bejeepers out of me, in fact, you're downstairs right now, so I'm going to yell at you in person about the watermark instead of typing it on the forum.

The levels look really awesome, though, Dimo, I cannot wait to see what you do in LBP2 with all the new tools and stuff. I think that game is probably made for people like you.

Maybe if you add some bombs and sharks, you'll get more plays?
Oh, and maybe you should tack on WITH REAL WATER after the X3 in the title.

Caryn, if you think that plant's bad, you should see the boss at the beginning of Vmethos' secret stage. It's meticulously planned, but YEESH is it hard! 2010-10-12 16:49:00

I'm gonna post here, just to help with the lack of varying creators posting. If one didn't know better-- one might think the pointless banter and personal posts contained in this thread were simply a thinly veiled ruse to ensure it reaches cool pages. Luckily, this level is really quality.

I however died far too frequently to complete and quit rather downrate in my angry/frustrated state...

That however doesn't make it a 'cool level' to play.

Hi,

There are a few things in your comment that didn't sit well with me, and I think there might be a misunderstanding. First, to be completely honest, I didn't realize a level was bumped to the cool levels page by post-count (I know, I shoud have read the sticky, which I just now did). I now see why one would accuse me of trickery, but I assure you, this was unintentional, and I apologize. Though, I disliked your thinly veiled attempt at accusation.

Also, I'm a little confused by your conclusion. Is it meant objectively or subjectively?

And, to be frank, I took slight offense to your insinuation that my personal relationships with other members of this forum, and the communications we have, are without a point.

But, if I can take the bolded segment of your post at face value, I would say thank you for giving RRX3 a try, and I'm glad you were able to find it enjoyable, despite the chalenges. Don't let the difficuty get you down, though. A little practice and memorization will ensure you victory!

I plan on getting throught his.... just haven't had the time to play levels in the last week....

And yes, play count is the reason levels move to cool pages - however, it's really just a way of getting levels out of the main thread so new levels can get a bit of attention, so I'm not sure it's really a "goal" to reach cool levels.

See the level "Cat vs Jaguar" thread for more details .
