I think the title is pretty self-explanatory. When it's hard to see what you're doing because of other stuff blocking your view, you could go and make the blocking layer(s) invisible (or a transparent ghost image). When invisible, the layer is ignored completely, for example the cursor won't highlight anything invisible or you can't place a bolt a invisible object. Also the invisible layer's physics would be paused (unless creator wants). Thoughts, comments, (lolcatz)?

I think you can do this with objects, but i'm not sure about entire layers.

Aye, aparently you can make objects "invisible" to be able to see behind them, and edit them w/out the other in front/ behind/ to the sides interfeering, b pressing L2 in front of it if I'm not mistaking.

yeah, you can definatly do this, pretty much exactly to your specifications. it's done with the l1 / l2 buttons

Yes you can do this. Very useful. L2 on an object hides it (opacity is about 5%), and L1 unhides all hidden objects. You can't select the hidden stuff at all. Your wish is a reality. GJ MM.

Not very useful if you have holograms in one place but still Place your holograms so that they have "tabs" that stick out into different locations (i.e. so every piece of hologram has a location that can be individually selected), then sticker the tabs to make them invisible

You know what i had the same idea in head but i already had some channels on my TV set up, also had too much of them it would be hell to organize those tabs
