Data Transfer Utility -Lost Levels

Archive: 6 posts

I would be very grateful if anyone could offer some advice in how to resolve my issue?

My PS3 Blu Ray Drive failed so I purchased a new console and performed the Data Transfer Utility. Everything seems to have copied fine including my LBP profile and a further file stored in the Game Data Utility area however when I start LBP from the disc in the new console it will not recognise my old profile and creates a new one and corresponding file.
As a result I have lost all my levels.

The problem seems to be that I cannot backup my profile on the old console as the disc drive is faulty (when you back up the profile within the game it is saved into the Saved Data Utility) and I only have a copy of the profile on the new console within the Game Data Utility and this cannot be copied or imported from within the game - so, in short I have a copy of the profile but in the wrong place which cannot seemingly be utilised.

Does anyone have any advice how I can resolve this and restore my levels etc on to my new PS3?

Thanks

Have you tried making online back-up copies? Im assumming here that you can still play the game somewhat, if you can then online back-up copies would work,
Oops, I just noticed that you said the bluray drive is messed up, guess my advice is null then

The only thing I can think of would be annoyingly expensive. You could purchase the download version of lbp from the psn store so you can run it on your broken ps3 and run the profile backup. I have no idea how much it costs (the only reason I even know it exists is because I saw it mentioned that the download version of lbp was a free perk to year-long subscribers to psn+). I would be hesitant to buy the whole game again, but then again, depending on how much work you've put into the stuff in your profile, it may be worth it to you.2010-09-29 20:18:00

Thanks for the advice
Ironically I did sign up to PSN+ a while ago and saw LBP was available but unfortunately it is no longer available.
I guess I am now paying the price for not backing up my profile - a painful lesson

There's another option which, although arguably less expensive, is so painful you'd probably prefer to shell out the cash - dismantle the two PS3s and temporarily swap the BD drives.

With regards to Sehven's suggestion, I can't guarantee that the disc-based and downloadable versions share the same game data area, but maybe someone else has tried it?
