RUMOR: BBC Online reports LittleBigPlanet 2 in development

We're labelling this one a rumour for the moment, but we thought you'd like to hear about it just the same. BBC Online is reporting that a sequel to the wildly acclaimed PlayStation 3 social platformer LittleBigPlanet is underway. Thanks to TheSixthAxis for the heads-up.

The key sentence comes around halfway down the page: "Even before the game has hit the shops, the team are already at work on a sequel." The absence of further elaboration or fanfare is suspicious - we suspect a retraction will be forthcoming in the not-too-distant future.

On the other hand, some kind of LittleBigPlanet follow-up - if only in spirit - seems inevitable given the hysteria Media Molecule's breakthrough exclusive has attracted thus far. We're just not sure this is it.

Assuming the BBC is talking gospel truth, however - what would you add to LittleBigPlanet? ...

I'd be beyond surprised if this turned out to be true. No way in my opinion.

There wouldn't be anything new inwhich they can't update... Everything's been done!2008-10-27 13:44:00

Can't be right.

No way. They would just do DLC to add to the first one.

Yep.

I think you guys are right. We're going to see plenty of patches/DLC before we hear any real whisperings of a sequel.2008-10-27 13:54:00

I think they assumed "more content"=sequel and not DLC. Relax, there's no sequel. Hobo has spoken!2008-10-27 14:28:00

they may be starting it now. Remember games take normally 2-3 years to make from the initial stages. MM has said how fast they have produced lbp. Maybe they are just brain storming at the mo, which would mean they are 'at work' on a sequel. They will most likely take their time making this lbp2 whilst keeping us happy with the dlc. I think this time they will wait a lot longer into the development before they show off what they are working on. They showed lbp very early into the development but this time they will hold back as people will start saying stupid things like i'm not gonna buy the dlc as i'm just gonna wait for lbp22008-10-27 14:44:00

Bearing in mind LBP has been in production for around 3 years (I think) it seems sensible to start work on the next one. 'Work' could even just be simple brainstorming anyway.2008-10-27 16:59:00

Yeah, plus with all the money they'll be raking in I'm sure they'll be able to hire some developers to continue to support LBP while the rest work on a sequel.

my opinion it's false. It's way to soon to be thinking sequal first games not even out yet and their an indie developer who said they couldn't wait to provide DLC so i say for now it's just one of those rumors. Just thought i'd throw my two cents in.2008-10-27 22:52:00

Please, in production already? No, companies dont start a sequild right after the first game.
They look at the sales before they decide that. Its way too early to tell how much they will make as of now.
