"Interactive" Music Sequencer + Music-sharing preferences

Archive: 10 posts

I know that when you create music via the music sequencer, you can save the music as a "radio" similar to the music objects you find in the story levels and share the object with other players. I think that a deeper level of music sharing settings should be implemented.

You should be able to change a few settings to your music objects (this could be implemented either in the "tweak" menu of the sequencer of in the settings after the object is created):

Editable? (Y/N): this is to protect the security of your music, which could be at stake if you give it away (i.e. people copying parts of your music).
Interactive?(Y/N): This would make your music object interactive, like the "Int" music objects in the story mode levels. If turned on, the player using the object would be able to edit the music with sliders like the regular interactive music.

Of course, this would mean that music sequencers would have to be upgraded as well, to include different sections of music. There could be a button or something you could press while selecting the music sequencer, and a list of name options would come up, for example Melody, Accompaniment, Percussion, Alternate, Rythm 1, Rhythm 2, etc. You could add as many as you want (or maybe there could be a limit). Then each of these sections would have their own volume slider when the radio is tweaked.

Thoughts?

Aren't the sequencers shareable also currently? Still, I like your idea... creditz for the composer!

Perhaps the composer could divide the sequencer board into strips, such as "drums", "bass", "melody" etc. as the current interactive musics have... Though I think doing a remix would be just better instead of fading something off the track.

That's kind of what I meant when I said you could divide the sequencer. Sorry if that was too vague

Hey wow. I was thinking we wouldn't get this and would have to make a separate radio for each section and change it's volume. You can play 2 at once right?

Kudos to MM for thinking it through.

It's nice, but couldn't you already set up some logic to start multiple sequencers? Like have one start at the beginning, another added midway, then another at the end.2010-09-29 16:01:00

YES!!!
Any word on the security settings?

And to whoever said you could just make logic to fade music in, this is for OTHER people who use your radios. I don't think people would appreciate it if they had to splice up the music themselves.

Great idea! If it's implemented the way I understand it with the six tracks then that's great, though I'm not sure 6 tracks is enough.

I have a question to those who've been playing around with the music editor. Are there pre-recorded loops already available for those members who don't have the skills to create their own? (there's going to be some horrible music attempts in levels I'm sure). I was wondering because if we can do something like the OP suggests, then some of us could just create loop tracks to send out to the community to mix with other loops. Though I'm not sure how advanced the settings might be with regards to changing tempo/speed on pre-made community loops if we were able to do this.

No matter is it shareable or not, you can copy notes and instruments, tweak the instruments, add your own, change the tempo etc.

The channels are always the same size, but you can fit more than one instrument in a channel (if you place one instrument on a single line) depending how tall the sequencer's timeline is.
