Introducing the Extended LittleBigPlanet Family

Archive: 14 posts

Mm was founded four years ago by a group of friends with an intention make innovative and creative games, and to do so in a small team to retain a close knit family vibe.

When we released LittleBigPlanet in 2008, our plans to remain small were shot out of the window somewhat, as we were swept up in a torrent of love and excitement that you guys had for our game! Thanks to all that love and support, we’ve been working flat out to update LittleBigPlanet, create an absolute ton of DLC, and all the while work on LittleBigPlanet 2, which we’ve nearly finished!

To do all that at the same time would be a momentous task for any team, let alone an ‘ickle one, and so we’ve had to expand a bit. We still managed to stay small enough to keep the family vibe alive however, there are about 40 of us now, which is tiny as far as development studios go! So how on earth did we manage to stay true to our ideals of staying small, and get all of that done at once?!

Well, we did it all with more than a little help from our friends. The folks below are our much loved extended family, the unsung heroes of LittleBigPlanet. We’d really like you to meet them, so please allow us to introduce you all to the full LittleBigPlanet team!

<a href="http://www.testology.co.uk "><img src="/images/uploads/third-parties-testology.jpg" class="floatright"/></a><strong>Testology</strong>

<a href="http://www.testology.co.uk">http://www.testology.co.uk</a>

Without these guys, we?d never have shipped LittleBigPlanet! A permanent fixture in the studio, the Testology gang form the majority of our QA testers here. Testology are an award winning QA outsourcing company, founded by former Lionhead employees, just like us.

<a href="http://www.tarsier.se"><img src="/images/uploads/third-parties-tarsier.jpg" style="position: relative; left: 0px" class="floatleft"/></a><strong>Tarsier Studios</strong>

<a href="http://www.tarsier.se">http://www.tarsier.se</a>

We first formed a friendship with Tarsier when they started work on the PSN re-imagining of Rag Doll Kung Fu, but it wasn?t long before we roped them into helping us out with making various DLC Packs for LittleBigPlanet. <em>Hundreds</em> of costumes and assets later, and after putting together the LittleBigPlanet Playground for PlayStation Home they have recently been busy with some mind-blowing costumes for LittleBigPlanet2!</span>

<br class="clear"/>

<a href="http://fireproofstudios.com"><img src="/images/uploads/third-parties-fireproof.jpg" class="floatright"/></a><strong>Fireproof Studios</strong>

<a href="http://fireproofstudios.com">http://fireproofstudios.com</a>

Fireproof are based just around the corner from us, and have been responsible for rendering those fabulous backgrounds we?ve been putting in our DLC packs; from the <a href="http://www.littlebigplanet.com/en-gb/game_guide/ps3/playing/story_levels/metal_gear_solid_premium_level_kit/">Metal Gear Solid Level Kit</a>, all the way through to the recent <a href="http://www.littlebigplanet.com/en-gb/game_guide/ps3/downloadable_content/marvel_level_kit/">Marvel Level Kit</a>, if a pack has included a background, chances are Fireproof made it for us. Their new backgrounds for LittleBigPlanet 2 are simply stunning, just you wait!

<br class="clear"/>

<a href="http://www.leadinglightdesign.com"><img src="/images/uploads/third-parties-leadinglight.jpg" class="floatleft"/></a><strong>Leading Light</strong>

<a href="http://www.leadinglightdesign.com">http://www.leadinglightdesign.com</a>

Leading Light first started to work with us on the History pack designing some fab-tabulous stickers, and have had their sticker sets included in many of our DLC releases since. They are another Guildford based company, which is really very handy indeed.

<br class="clear"/>

<a href="http://www.supermassivegames.com"><img src="/images/uploads/third-parties-smg.jpg" class="floatright"/></a><strong>Supermassive Games</strong>

<a href="http://www.supermassivegames.com">http://www.supermassivegames.com</a>

Supermassive are yet another local gang, just a stone?s throw from here. These guys were the creative talent behind the levels from numerous DLC kits, such as the <a href="http://www.littlebigplanet.com/en-gb/game_guide/ps3/downloadable_content/pirates_of_the_caribbean_premium_level_kit/">Pirates of the Caribbean</a> and the recent <a href="http://www.littlebigplanet.com/en-gb/game_guide/ps3/downloadable_content/marvel_level_kit/" title="">Marvel</a> pack, they are also working on the bonus Move levels that will ship with LittleBigPlanet 2!

<br class="clear"/>

<a href="http://www.maverickmedia.co.uk"><img src="/images/uploads/third-parties-maverick.jpg" class="floatleft"/></a><strong>Maverick Media</strong>

<a href="http://www.maverickmedia.co.uk">http://www.maverickmedia.co.uk</a>

<span style="display: block; padding-left: 275px">Maverick worked with us to film the footage used in the intro video, and the in-game tutorial videos for both LittleBigPlanet and LittleBigPlanet 2. We have been known to call them the Maverick Angels! </span>

<br class="clear"/>

<strong>You! </strong>

Then of course there?s you? LittleBigPlanet has more content to play than pretty much any other video game out there, and that?s all down to you and the incredible things you create. You?re a much loved part of our extended family too, so pop on over for a cup of tea any time! Not all at once though.

Even Media Molecule doesnt make it's own levels...

So, no stickers, no costumes, no backgrounds, no testing, no dlc... I think I do have stop by for that tea to figure-out what the heck you guys do do... outside of sticking Mm stickers on everything!

Keep up the good work?

What Mm does:
Game programming, concept art, art direction, and primary level design.

Not too bad. That's some of the main things right there.

Wow! This is really interesting! I'm kinda surprised Mm didn't make everything they ship out with their name, but then again the content of some of the DLC must take a ton of time! Well I'm glad credit is being given out to those who deserve it in the LBP universe!!2010-09-29 02:10:00
