Purely location.

Where I am (Eastern PA), it's a hoagie. Other places it's called other stuff. Pretty much the same thing, aside from regional differences, but it's really the same thing.

TBH, I would also like to know this.

Er, what is it then?:

I'm a clueless Canadian, sorry!

I was reading the title of this thread hoping you'd ask,

For better flavor and perfect mixture of lettuce, cheese and ham, what's the correct way to stack it? Lettuce on top of the ham and the cheese is under the meat?

Grinders tend to be served hot, while hoagies, heros, subs tend to be cold. Not always the case, but not a bad general rule. I would agree with Rock that it really depends on where you are from. We usually call them subs. Down in Louisiana, they call them Po' boys.

As for the order: whatever works best for you. I prefer to always put lettuce between the bread and the tomato to keep the bread from getting too soggy from the tomato.

But no matter what you call them or how you make them, sandwiches really shouldn't be stressful things to cause you problems in life. They should be beautiful things to be enjoyed. Perhaps you could experiment and come up with some new style of sandwich and call it something. Who knows, it might make you famous.

A hoagie is a tiny version of a boar (like hogs etc.) A hero is normally a creature (often humanoid) saving the day from upcoming doom and a grinder is a skateboarder who loves grinding on rails.2010-09-26 11:57:00
