Mechinator Quest (Concept Art and Doodles)

A series of levels I'm planning that put Sackboy into a variety of different space marine-esque mechs, each with their own powers and abilities.

The story is pretty light: there are 6 different Mechinators hidden throughout a Red (Communist) Hideout, Black Hole Research Station, Watery Forest, Grim Mine, Medievel Castle, and Volcano Factory. Your job is to track down a villain who is making his own Mechinators to mass-produce and take over Craftworld.

Red Hideout- starts off in a snowy environment, but once inside, turns into a hectic and colorful lab filled with huge weapons and little secrets
-Tankinator- This Mechinator is very strong and is a green camo color. The player is armed with a machine gun that can be aimed with the right stick and fired with R1. You cannot shoot for 7 seconds or else it will overheat and you'll lose a sliver of health. The player can also put down a temporary shield that takes 10 hits and has to recharge for a minute before reuse.

Black Hole Research Station- a space station over a black hole that has been taken over by the computer AI
-Strateginator- A futuristic-looking Mechinator that can spawn and direct Sackbots. The player doesn't do any work himself, but instead relies on Sackbots to get the job done. You can spawn a box of 2 small Sackbots by pressing L1 and a box of 1 big Sackbot by pressing L2. Your cursor can be guided with the right stick. With the cursor you can set waypoints for Sackbots to follow and targets for them to shoot at. You can press square to blow your whistle and make your Sackbots follow you around.

Watery Rainforest- an ambient forest where fiery Sackbots wreak havoc
-Pumpinator- A bright yellow Mechinator that uses water to put out fire, drown Sackbots, and fill pools of water. Water can fired with R1 but your hose will overheat if sprayed for too long.

Grim Mine- a dark cave setting filled with unstable wooden pieces
-Bombinator- An industrial themed Mechinator with the power to shoot different kinds of bombs. Pressing R1 fires standard explosives and R2 fires sticky bombs. Only 5 sticky bombs can be emitted at once and pressing square sends out a signal that blows them all up.

Medievil Castle- an apocolyptic kingdom where the local villagers have gone on strike
-Knightinator- A Mechinator dressed in knight's armor (complete with a giant feather on top ). Your only weapon is a longsword, but you can do two different attacks: normal and heavy. Pressing R1 performs a normal swipe attack that does a little bit of damage. Pressing R2 performs a jabbing motion that does heavy damage. The heavy attack takes 30 secs to recharge.

Volcano Factory- it's... a factory... inside an erupting volcano
-I'm not sure what Mechinator will be in this level, but it will probably shoot fireballs or lasers or something. Idunno lol.

In case your wondering, I've done quite a bit of research on the LBP2 beta and I'm pretty positive that everything I've listed can be done. From what I've been told Movers can work miracles.

Sure, you're just going to have to remind me.
I've already begun to create a few environment samples and I've constructed the basic body of the Mechinator out of cardboard.

I've decided to make the last Mechinator wield a shotgun. It does a lot of damage, but is not very accurate. Also, the spray of bullets will be random.

I think I've come up with a decent solution for your weapon only facing in one direction. Since your main weapon will always be on your right side, I can make an auto-aiming secondary weapon for your left side. Since the enemies will have tags on their weak spots, it will rotate on its own to point at enemies and you can fire with some variation of L1/L2.
The only class this doesn't apply to is the Strateginator since you can direct Sackbots anywhere.
Hopefully, this gives the player enough time to jump around enemies or flee.

Ooh, ooh, can I be in the beta as well? Pleeeaaaase, I promise I'll be good. On a more serious note, shouldn't the last Mechinator have a flamethrower or something? You could refuel be standing under a stream of lava.2010-09-26 21:11:00

Well, I was thinking that the enemies in the Volcano Factory were going to emit fireballs.
Since it's an industrial-type level, there's a lot of strong and powerful machinery. What better way is there to take down powerful machine enemies than with a shotgun?
Or maybe it could be some kind of explosive spear. If you've ever played Bioshock 2 with rocket spear ammo, you know what I mean.

Sounds like an interesting concept, an idea for you, perhaps a sniper rifle?

EDIT, fantastic art as well, I'm sure you'll be able to create this on LBP2, maybe even more complex.

for the volcano make a mechinator that can turn into all the other ones like lue kain on mortal combat. water to make rock platforms on the lava, stickybombs to blow up slabs, sackbots to get around enemies and the sword to beat the final boss... or a flying one those are always awesome2010-09-28 03:24:00
