The amazing spider-sack

I'm planning to build a level (or series of levels) in lbp2 based on the world-famous webhead. Unlike all the other spidey levels, this one will be free roam and be set in the ultimate universe.
I've already planned out some complex logic in the beta including a double jump mechanic, a basic four-hit combo combat system, some acrobatics, spider sense and web shots.

I don't have the beta, so I'm not sure how things work, but for the wall crawling logic, what if you had an up-down mover on the sackbot's circuitboard that is activated by a proximity switch on the wall?2010-09-27 03:34:00

good idea but, it should be button activated so for example, pressing "O" when near a wall would cause spidey to grab at it or something
just an idea.

On a more serious note: I really want to play this level once its there.

You could make main missions and sidemissions.

And OP, maybe you could incorporate a basic combat system (like the Street Fighter one) to beat up baddies and thugs during your missions.

And for the big missions you could use level links such as if you went to a warehouse or train station and entered it you would be transported to another level which takes place in the warehouse/other place. And you could set up multiple such links at major locations on the map for the main objectives.

i thought sackbots can use a power up if you go through its settings. and hawk14 what i meant was that, if we are going to do a combat system,does it replace the grapppling hook.2010-10-01 04:24:00

Hi, I'm Keldur, also known as "Keldur from the beta"

I'm afaid to tell you that right now, there's no way sackbot's can use grappling hooks. Sorry for the bummer.
The only way to use a grappling hook is to equip it to a sackboy, not a sackbot.
That said, I'm afraid you'll have to choose between being able to swing or being able to double jump and acrobatics.
Why don't you split up the swinging parts with the fighting/acrobatic ones? I know that it sounds like a poor work around, but I'm afraid that there are no other ways.

May I suggest a material-tweaked sticky material and a grabbable material with elastic in between that your sackbot emits? A cheesy and most likley horrible looking work around, but please, dont hurt me 2010-10-01 22:43:00

Yeah, that would look better than a grappling hook too. You could use the material tweaker to make the line sticky.

update: 27/10/10
i've managed to add a working combat system to the level. it currently has light attcks and a heavy attack. there are now two types of enemy, a small, agile thug and a slow damage-dealing goliath.

i use a mover attached to a piece of material that has an impact switch on it for my web design. when it impacts it triggers a 0 gravity 100% dampening switch to make it stay put.
this is the method currently in use in spider-jews level as well i believe.

i use a sponge held at an angle by a winch. when grabbed, the sponge is released and left to swing in a graceful arc in true spidey fashion.2010-10-27 20:28:00
