Castle Crawler 3 (spotlighted)

Castle Crawler 3SX_shookie99
A platformer with a castle-like theme with medium to hard difficulty. The level is also in black and white.
100 years ago the evil Lord Loobeedo cast a curse on the Kingdom, thus drawing all the color from the land. Prophecy foretold of a young sack that would one day lift the curse and put an end to Lord Loobeedo. Today is that day.

Hey its shookie again here to tell you abou my new level. The story begins in this level and will continue through the next installment. The level is in black and white but I placed a key in the level that will unlock the color version. The color version is not a story but just so people can appreciate the decorations that get lost in the black and white. I would love for you to play the intended version (black and white) and feedback is greatly appreciated. Sadly, I was only able to put. The story in the level description. Also the pictures I have are too large to post. But trust me, everyone of my friends that played it mostly used the words "looks amazing".

Okay, I played this level and here's what I thought.

Although not the longest of the castle crawler series, it's definitely a great ne.There's some great gameplay in this one like the platforms that make you fly up when jumping outside, that was really fun although doesn't work nearly as well wiht just 1 person. As usual, I loved the castle look to it, there were good amount of points spread out as usual. I really liked the logo at the beginning, you should definitely do more, you're really good at it. The cannons in the castle worked well but again, didn;t really work well at all with more than 1 player. I also really liked the trees that were made around and the part with the snow falling and the ice there, great touch although unless you just can;t, maybe put a global lighting object since it looked kinda weird wit the sun out and it's snowin(This is a complaint about the colored version, the black and white version doesn;t need changes for this). One thing I was pleased about was there was no lag yet you still pulled together some good lighting in this one. I also liked how at the end, the part fell. Oh and it was great how you had both a black and white and a colored version for the players although when you get to the snow part in the colored version, there's no box to get you up, might wanna add one. Great job though, I gave both levels :star::star::star::star::star: and a <3 It's great to see even though the Honey Hive series is over, you're still creating fabulous levels but I will say it's more fun to play alone

I'll be mentioning this on my blog later today or tomorrow hopefully

Edit: It's out on my blog now

WOW thanks again DV. It seems no one else is going to take notice of this level but it has a 4 to 1 plays to hearts ratio. Seriously would love to have more feedback from everyone.2010-09-28 07:16:00

This level was was a treat to play. Not really that hard but has some slightly tricky parts though. The castle theme was pretty cool in black and white and felt original by doing that. The periods of platforming and grabbing was flawless. I also loved the length on this level. It was pretty long but if the gameplay is good the player wont even notice. My only suggestion is to put a light over the 1st 2 way switch as it was hard to find since it was in a dark area. 5 stars and a <3 and I ranked 2nd on leaderboards XD2010-10-02 01:44:00

Hi! I played this level just a moment ago. Here is what I think: I actually played both, colorfull and colorless levels. I must say that colorless is much better. The gameplay is fun and there is a lot to collect. One thing that bothered me was that story had nothing to do with actual level. There were 2 annoying parts: the first one was the second place where the piece of rock falls from the top of the room. It is very hard to make the jump to the switch, since there is a stupid crack in the piece of rock. Second annoying part was the part you have to jump on big 3 platforms to other side. It was very, very annoying at the first time, but second time was actually funny and easy going. Ending was also bad, it looked bad and was flat and came out with a surprise. I gave 4 stars and a heart. Now if you don't mind, I'll go play LBPCentral the Game right now.2010-10-02 08:46:00

Hi shookie99,
I'll play this soon! Great to know you made another one, I liked the previous two a lot!
Just using this first post to tell you that I played all your levels other day, I liked them all a lot, in case you're wondering , but there were two, I believe from the first series you made (forgot the name now, sorry) that apparently were broken, at least for me, it was the episode 2 and 3 if I'm remember well. I left commentaries about this on both, but for what I can tell, it seems you did not see those commentaries yet, so I'm telling you here xD.
When I play the CC3 I'll post my impressions here!

hey shookie99, I played both versions and I think the level is really really nice to play and a great addition to the CCs! I preferred the one with colors! But that's probably just me . About the gameplay I liked all sections, and about the decorations and overall look too! Congratulations!
I'll most likely play it again (the one with colors, ), and if I think of anything else I'll post here.

I just played this level...well all three of the Castle Crawlers and the color version too. I really loved the lighting in the first two versions, the yellows and the falling light shower in the second. This one has far superior design, but they all have nice play. I hate ceiling climbing, I think my R1 is wearing out from too much Warhawk back in the day. But this like some of the recent ones i have played had a well designed grab wall that did not tick me off, so good job on that. As for the color, maybe you can start it with color and have it taken away after the first few seconds, because the greens and other colors really work well, some of the lighting is more aimed for the B&W version because it is bright white and does not go with the tones in level like your first two versions had (a more yellow orange)...not saying it was bad, just saying it was obvious that it was chosen to be bright white for the color palette. Also it just was such a big change from 1 and two that I was thrown a little. THe boats i nteh water were a good touch, possibly a little less abrupt lip so if you are running from left to right you won't get the little part where i you hit jump it doesn't matter because the sackboy is in the air for a second. Not an issue, I just wanted to run from noe to the other to max out my points. I liked the bounce pads, but when I got too playful in that area I died four times in a row. They only bounce you if you land in the mid area and I was trying to bounce super far...and when I did not bounce I was going too fast and I would just skid off to my death (oh and the fog or water should be the same color for this in the color version...not a big, if just bugged me it was yellow on clear water. I liked the snow, and again I know the level was made for B@W but for that one location a global with high fog and set to white would make the storm even snowier. The part that Freeaim mentioned about the falling platform you have to jump on was a bit too high, just corner edit the background you are on and it will fix it. The part that really got me was the large box you pull to the left to jump up on the blocks with the every other section spikes. The auto layer select of sackboy mixed with the camera angle to make me get sucked on to the spikes, and then the part behind the wall was a blind jump, so I over jumped and died, then I auto slected on the spikes again and died, and then I made it behind the wall went to the next jumo and teh lever auto selected me to the foreground just long enough for the spike to auto select me to the back and kill me...this happened twice (the second time I was just looking around and then went back and it got me. Maybe you can raise the lever a little, make a second camera view for the blind jump and just before that the jump onto the spikes (more straight on and maybe level too). I was wierd in the fact I liked the sudden end, it was not as detailed as the rest of the level, but it was a good fake out. Maybe add some global lighting for the end, make the day goto night and add a arch or something in the thin foreground layer. All in all they were very solid and fun castle platforming, you stuck to your style the whole way through sans the color. And in the very first of your castle crawler levels there were two parts, on in the begining and one a little later on when you could see outof the castle because of a steep up and to the right camera angle, both times were in little bubble point areas up above. Good levels, and like I said the color is not needed, just that the lighting looked very good in your prior ones, so it really caugt me off gaurd for it to all be gone. Oh and right before the spikey area that pwned me several times the spawn point is on the 3rd layer back and the castle tower with the large door immediatly to the right of it causes sack boy to stop running..he doesn't auto jump forward, which usually didn't happen in you level, so if you were trying to prevent that you may need to tweek the wall angle a little there. Hope that was helpful.2010-10-07 02:50:00

This is one of the best black and white levels I've ever played. The gameplay is unique and challenging and the visual style works really well. Although it's hard to find some sponges, I'm really impressed with the obstacles and style of this level. 5 stars and a heart.2010-10-09 00:44:00

Prefered the colour version as the sponge was way eaiser to see.
I hated that layer switch after you pull the box. After the checkpoint you run right and fall in spikes. I would play around with the geometry here to make the hole more obvious.
Speech bubble on cannon stops bubble combo, just like your other levels, lol.
There are some (floating bolts?) in the water below the bell bouncy wooden things.
I didn't notice the ledges in the snow part in the B&W version.
Hated that bit when you fall down, there is a switch to the left that you can't reach. So you run to the right, and a ledge falls down back at the switch. I would make it fall when sackboy impacts or something to make it more natural than an obvious sensor switch.
At the gate when you pull the large crate, (especially in the B&W version) , it is somewhat obscured by the thick layer in front, I thought you couldn't jump on it from the left at first. (looks like front layer is 2 layers thick). Maybe add some lighting there?
From the level's description, I expected more upwards movement and a boss fight. Most of the level is horiztonal based + no bad guy, no foreshadowing, and no entrance to his lair. At the end you fall down?
Did you create the level in B&W? Or did you make it in colour, make the lighting switch then add some lights?
I say this because I would have made the sponge more visible, like bright white contrasting with black or vise versa.

Still a nice level. I enjoyed the bubble combos the most I think. The smaller numbers work better than the larger ones in your honey hive levels imo.
