Realistic Waves

I don't know much about this, but is there a feature in LBP2 that would allow for better looking waves rather than what we have from the POTC pack? E.g instead of the water changing depth we could have a wave something like this. http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=http://aiimknowledgecenter.typepad.com/photos/uncategorized/2007/10/20/wave.jpg&imgrefurl=http://aiimknowledgecenter.typepad.com/weblog/2007/10/two-new-forrest.html&usg=__7E8eTF9-Bt6tQgecMuQ1j8Cr_fY=&h=533&w=800&sz=51&hl=en&start=0&zoom=1&tbnid=NuPfpElt2bx4lM:&tbnh=126&tbnw=176&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dcartoon%2Bwave%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26s a%3DN%26biw%3D1366%26bih%3D564%26tbs%3Disch:1&um=1&itbs=1&iact=hc&vpx=444&vpy=247&dur=716&hovh=183&hovw=275&tx=109&ty=71&ei=hvKdTJTZKsuNjAeHpNS_DQ&oei=bvKdTI--EMTKjAfKkJWFDQ&esq=5&page=1&ndsp=21&ved=1t:429,r:9,s:0http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=http://aiimknowledgecenter.typepad.com/photos/uncategorized/2007/10/20/wave.jpg&imgrefurl=http://aiimknowledgecenter.typepad.com/weblog/2007/10/two-new-forrest.html&usg=__7E8eTF9-Bt6tQgecMuQ1j8Cr_fY=&h=533&w=800&sz=51&hl=en&start=0&zoom=1&tbnid=NuPfpElt2bx4lM:&tbnh=126&tbnw=176&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dcartoon%2Bwave%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26s a%3DN%26biw%3D1366%26bih%3D564%26tbs%3Disch:1&um=1&itbs=1&iact=hc&vpx=444&vpy=247&dur=716&hovh=183&hovw=275&tx=109&ty=71&ei=hvKdTJTZKsuNjAeHpNS_DQ&oei=bvKdTI--EMTKjAfKkJWFDQ&esq=5&page=1&ndsp=21&ved=1t:429,r:9,s:0http://i358.photobucket.com/albums/oo30/valdemar_album/Oceanus/crashing_wave.jpg It would be great for surfing mini-games etc. And now with the delay i really think they should add this. | 2010-09-25 14:02:00 Author: onaga666 Posts: 293 |
good idea, can be used in a horror level as well. for example you open up a door and giant wave flushes in and with it a creature. | 2010-09-25 14:18:00 Author: nightwing Posts: 422 |
you open up a door and giant wave flushes in and with it a creature. So shark survival in an office block then? | 2010-09-25 15:11:00 Author: theamilien Posts: 485 |
Could be the fact our water behaves like it does is due to pure hardware limitation. The physics processor on a PS3 might just not be able to hack it. I know on my old 40GB machine (which YLOeD btw) the fan would kick into high gear and lag would kick in even before i maxed out movable objects. My guess is that real nice water effects require banks of serious hardware to render realisticly. | 2010-09-26 07:23:00 Author: Unknown User |
Realistic = dynamic... | 2010-09-26 08:00:00 Author: Unknown User |
So shark survival in an office block then? LOL that would be weird :/ | 2010-09-26 10:41:00 Author: YEAH_NAH Posts: 775 |

It's not possible in the BETA. Maybe we could make something good with water drops. We can make a very realistic firehose with the Creatinator and a very high-speed flow. So it's also possible with an emitter, but it doesn't really look-like a wave. The only thing I could come up with would be a slow-motion wave. Make your shape with the animated material, tweak the speed of the texture, and add slow-motion sceneries behind (like people running slowly etc...) This may look good. | 2010-09-26 12:10:00 Author: Oddmania Posts: 1305 |
DEFINITLEY!!!! Keen for a mean wakebording level, the boat could put out a proper wake and you could have the direct control seat hooked up to a wakeboard wif a sackbot on it! | 2010-12-16 00:13:00 Author: killerfrogy Posts: 65 |

It'd be nice to have it as some sort of scripted effect, though. | 2010-12-16 21:46:00 Author: Darth Posts: 186 |
You could gie the EFFECT of a giant wave rushing through a city by using gravity manipulation techniques like in these levels: http://www.youtube.com/user/CogSpartan457#p/u/33/Q4ActFH_56U http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vxnpkt8Vv3Q By tilting the whole city on its side and twisting the cameras so it looks normal you could raise the water level at a steady pace and give the impression that a huge wave is rolling over the town. Ill make an example next time im in the beta and take some pics to show you | 2010-12-17 14:53:00 Author: Skalio- Posts: 920 |
