Super Afro Samurai Monkeys!

Super Afro Samurai Monkeys!LordMagicPants
The Floating Monkey Temples is under attack by the evil forces of the zombie, werewolve, ninjas! send Sackboy in to aid them!
In the last 8 months since published a level, I have made a super, duper, ultra shiny new level! Yellow light of death, power cuts, 160 hour bug NONE of that was gonna stop me from finishing this beauty.

You should know the drill to my levels now... yep the both of you! and for everyone else... it's your average platformer with things to kill, mini bosses, silly characters and a final boss with two phases! This final boss is a much bigger and epic then my last attempt (King Orca) it's the first thing I worked on so I couldn't use themo space as an excuse.

History!

This is a level a wanted to do really early back in my newbie days, the original design for the monkeys was red not blue. (I'll find a pic at some point!) I was inspired by my costume I use to wear in LBP of the monkey outfit with an afro. Why a floating monkey temple in the sky? this added some inspiration is well http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7qrbDeFEocE wish I could of gotten the sky like that... also I forget how zombie werewolve ninjas got involved...

Pictures!

Peaceful times soon turn ugly...

http://img40.imageshack.us/img40/5060/aphoto64.jpg (http://img40.imageshack.us/i/aphoto64.jpg/)
Yea... his not doing what you think he is...

http://img228.imageshack.us/img228/6015/aphoto66.jpg (http://img228.imageshack.us/i/aphoto66.jpg/)
Ninjas! ninjas everywhere! nipples too!

Also a big thanks to PaddyJ for the help on the movements on the final boss.

Link me to a level you would like feed back to, and I hope you enjoy!

If something then THIS looks worth of playing. I can already tell you that visuals are amazing. I'll soon post the real critic.2010-09-25 13:58:00

Ok I played it and I liked it and I hearted it.
Good:
+Platforming at the beginning was outstandingly well made. Loved the jetpack part.
+Characters were just... Wow. They were the best I've ever seen!
+Gameplay ideas were unigue, and I realy appreciate it!
+Story wasn't too complicated. It was fun too.
Bad:
-I was able to cheat at the point where monkeys turn their staffes in X. I got a corner jump and directly jumped into upstair part where I saw 2 bounce pad thingies on dissappearing material.
-Bosses. I counted 4. The first boss (or what I think is), the 2 fat jumping werewolves was only boss with nothing to complain about. Second was also second worst. The camera moved like crazy and I died many times in there. Then the third boss. You could explain how it works. I died like 3 times by only figuring it out. Then the last boss. He was the worst of 'em all. It was very hard to move around the fighting platform because of switches. It was also hard to get down from bulding since he stupidly stopped into edge. He was waaaaaaaay too hard and long and it became boring. And bad camera angle didn't ease it.
Critic: :star::star::star::star: And <3. It was unigue and nicely done level with good humour. Length was good but boss issues and other little things like stucks weren't any fun. Otherwise it could have been 5.

Having tested this from the start I can say there's not much wrong with the bosses, except with the last one.

The last one only because the piston that moves the fire/switches/boss down don't go down far enough so there's a gap.

Sorry but I think its just a lack of skill

What a great pleasure to play this !
I found your level follows directly the true spirit of LBP.
I liked a lot the way you designed the characters and the backgrounds.
There are lots of bosses but there are of different types so it's quite entertaining.
Also the difficulty is very well balanced (not too hard, not too easy). Moreover the gameplay hold to play with two players which is cool !
To finish I'm sorry I can't find bad things to say
Anyway you did a great job and I gave :star::star::star::star::star: and a <3

It's not maybe as good as yours but I would be interesting to know your opinion on my level below, give it a chance someday if you have time, thanks !

I can't really do anything to stop players skipping on the first floor, I mean theres already dark matter blocking the side and I can't really do anything because I can't even add a single square without the level overheating now anyway. Guess I could just rise the bouncers higher off screen. I can't really help the cameras either, they don't zoom out far enough.

I didn't really think the third boss needed explaining at all... you get a pretty clear warning when he attacks with the noise and lights, also there are only two switches. what wasn't there to get?

I've fixed the issue with the switches on the final boss now.

But anyway thanks for the feedback

All fixed. put on a dissolve instead of a piston. I try to do some decorating but the themo gave in soon after I but the buttons on the wheels and feet on the rocket arm ninjas...

Ok I played your level, and here's what I thought:

Platforming at the beginning was good, the character design was some of the best in LBP. I thought their dialogue was a little crude and the punctuation made it kind of confusing, you may want to fix that up a bit.

The visuals overall were pretty good, I loved the part with the moon and some of the building interiors looked great. There was a grab switch that showed through a door, I thought maybe you could make that invisible.

The first two boss-type scenarios were good. I thought the first one with the bounce pads was clever, and the bomb one worked fine but it was pretty repetitive. The third one was very complex, I had to think a lot about how to defeat him, but it was too tricky sometimes. I think you should slow everything in that boss down a notch, like the sword swinging, the time the fireballs stay put, and the timing between the ninja star throws.

The last boss was my least favorite, it was just way too tricky and I didn't like respawning at the top of the building every time.

Maybe use a few more bright colors and lights, everything seemed a bit dulled down, possibly because of the global lighting set toward black and white a little too much.

Overall I liked the platforming, characters, and concept, gave it :star::star::star::star:

Please play my Spy Chronicles Part 2 level for the F4F. Thanks!!

This is one of the best levels I played all week! Very funny story and excellent platforming and layer usage. Your character design has shined through in this one. I love you boss fights. They were very innovative. Especially the miniboss fight using the bombs. The boss fights felt like minigames kinda, which is a good thing . This level deserves 5 stars and a <3. Oh I played this yesterday and it was one funky ride! Funky and fun, so I defiinitely enjoyed it. The characters were done incredibly well and the bosses were pretty fun too.

I absolutely loved the bouncy afros on some of the monkeys. Oh how they wiggle!

Now this level is FUNKY! The platforming gameplay is ingenious and the cut out of the characters are well made. The environment of this level fits well thanks to the stickering and materials choices and lighting is cool too. The 2 stage boss battle against the samurai werewolf is excellent too. The only flaw is that I had no idea what to do against an miniboss when you go against the large ninja werewolf, but I figured it out already but maybe you should add a clear sticker or something like that around his torso to find out where to put the bomb. Overall this level is as funny and exciting as the Evil King Orca level. 5 :star:s and a <3

Who can resist afro-monkies? Not me.

This level is real funny. Whacky characters and insane dialogue. Chucklenuts really looks like a ********* btw.

Platforming is fast and fun.
Visuals afre create, gorgeous stickering all around.

On my first playthrough I got stuck. I died on one of the retractable wolf-claws, after jet-packing down on the wheel with cloth-circles. I got flung back to an earlier save-point and after climbing up the tower again, the drawbridge was up, no way to get in.

All in all: fantastic level. Great job. :star::star::star::star::star:

If you're up for F4F, please give my level Kurtz and the Dead City of Fabul (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=30621-Kurtz-and-the-Dead-City-of-Fabul) a try

That was one of the best levels I have played the last few month.

Great sense of humor - great characters - great elements of gameplay - nice story - nice obstacles and very cool boss-fights. This level has it all! I love it!

:star::star::star::star::star: and a well deserved <3

I don't see how the second boss was repetitive seeing as he only takes 4 hits when the first one took a total of 12.

I'm going to see if I can move the checkout to the last boss into the center rather then on top of the building, reason I took it out before was when the boss dies it takes the checkpoint with it and once got hit by a bomb just as he dissolved and it just gave me the options when you run out of lives. I'll see about tweaking the other stuff. Also what do you mean black and white lighting? but thanks for the feedback.

Was you playing online at the time with someone joining? Some of the checkpoints were activated by key switches and seem to reactive themselves when someone joins in... I've taken them out now anyways. Thanks for the feedback!

Yo, played this level. Pretty cool.
The only thing that annoyed me, was that you used quotes from various movies/etc (at least 2 times, what was the one in the beginning again?).
The problem being the timing/grammar/spelling is incorrect.
I also felt the boss/es were more annoying/time consuming than fun. (doubt I could do any better, but still.)
Still a 4-5 star level though.

OOOoooooo NOM NOM NOM!

Another delicious level by LordMagicPants!

This level was loads of fun, the boss was superb, and so were the characters and the design.

My only gripe was punctuation, but it's no biggie. (Wow, did I just type 'no biggie?' I disgust myself...)

Anyway, a masterpiece! Very nice, zany and colourful, just what I love!

Five hundred thousand stars and a heart for you, my Lord.
