To MM: Most wanted hazards plus new one . . .

Archive: 33 posts

Okay, I got to thinking of some nice hazards and other things I hope MM would consider adding one day for LBP2 because I found out from a friend that's in beta that there are no new hazards. This makes no sense to me. A new game, but no new hazards? Now a couple of the following ideas I have not seen in other threads in LBP2 suggestions. 3 of the following were requested numerous times in LBP1. Over the past couple years it seems Ice, Wind, and hazardous Lava are the most requested and desired of new hazards. The beam field is just one of my own I thought was great.

-Beam Field (This is by far my favorite idea. The hazard placement looks like tesla coils or some kind of pole. But the actual part that kills you is the beam attached from one pole/tesla to the other, almost like attaching wires from one thing to another. You can even tweak the color of the beams. So you place these poles wherever and can attach a beam between them in a chain etc. And it can move too if a pole or poles are attached to moving parts.)

-Ice (Everyone would like to see ice as this has been brought up. It was left out of the original game. It looked nice and even the animation was nice.)

-Wind (A tweakable tool to create wind, so for example if wind blew right, it would be harder to move left and if in air it would blow you the direction its blowing. You can have the wind be constant, or set to a frequency, strength setting too, etc.)

-Real Lava (This is much the same as water except it looks like lava and of course is thicker than water. So I might say, create a level where you climb a tower or something with lava rising slowly from below as example.)

I mean this is LBP2, a perfect chance to add new hazards to keep dying fresh, lol. So PLEASE MM even if any of these aren't added by launch, PLEASE consider adding them in the future. Maybe even a hazard pack, which would be new and well worth the money. Although most likely you guys would release them seperate in level packs (like POtC and MGS).

I'm sure no one here would disagree that we would love to see these hazards. I know ice, wind, and lava have been brought up for LBP1 numerous times. LBP2 is good opportunity. ^_~

I like the idea of Honey. You slowly sink into it, and when your head sinks under you die.2010-09-24 20:07:00

Beam field is really easy to create with some emitters and electrified or plasmified holographic material 2010-09-24 20:28:00

... Didn't MM say there was going to be a laser danger?

Anyways, the problem with Elc'd Holo is it still gives a electrocution animation of death, lol.

Honey reminds me of quicksand, which is another nice hazard option, though I never thought of honey in place of it. Interesting concept. ^^2010-09-24 20:51:00

I'm pretty sure that was mere fan speculation no?
I don't recall anyone from Mm ever cnfirming or talking about it.

And the Ice was not implemented not because they couldn't, but because it's too buggy/ unstable.

I should have said "wasn't there supposed to be?"

I was totally sure I had seen it in the features thread, but its not there. :/

To much speculation mixed with the real info. Mah head cannot take it's.

The lazer hazard everyone has been hyped about is actually the plasma hazard which is official now and you can change the colour instead of just white like in LBP1...2010-09-24 22:15:00

Just saying...

I've already seen your topic.

Your topic is different. Yours is asking people what hazards they'd want to see in LBP2 after listing a bunch you'd like to see.

Mine is simply listing the most desired of requested hazards from LBP's past that have yet to be seen, which I threw beam field in as a personal favorite. And my topic title is aimed for MM to see, though of course anyone can reply with thoughts, just that since I doubt MM would read every thread here. I point out to MM with the most requested of hazards and how no new hazards are in LBP2, so it's an obvious good time to add them after all this time, or at least add what they can.

So my post was more like a plea, or whatever I'm thinking of, and I'm sure MM has to be aware those are most requested by this point, lol. So here's hoping to see them without bogging them down with a bunch of random hazards since those would be most important based on "most wanted"

Not a bad idea!

You can make artificial wind by using gravity manipulation, sound effects, and decorations to make it look like the wind is pushing it

Sackbots can't go in water. (They are robots & it messes with their circuitry)

Instead of asking for more hazards just let them focus on getting rid of the current bugs.2010-09-25 11:24:00

Hang on, so what's the name of the hazard that looks like arcing electricity? I've seen it on one of the creator jam levels (the one with the helicopter).2010-09-25 15:15:00

@ADS_LEGEND

I believe if you read all of my topic post I said somewhere about if not adding any by launch then please consider adding in future, which means since if not by launch then one day must mean any time after launch. ^_~

@theamilien

Good question.

Anyways, the problem with Elc'd Holo is it still gives a electrocution animation of death, lol.

Answer = both of these responses (although I don't see the electrocution animation being a problem as that's what would happen if you came in contact with a tesla coil arc). In my upcoming series I'm working on, I've created exactly what you are talking about... tesla coil hazards. I have to admit, I'm pretty impressed with the results myself. I've used Electrified Glass instead of Plasmafied Holo material though (as I'm not in the "beetah"). The only thing is that I can't change the colour of the arcs, due to stickers not showing up on the glass.

If you'd like, you can add me on your PSN and I can show you what I've done so that you can re-create the effect for yourself. I'm not going to give my system away or anything (I worked very hard to get it just right), but I can show you the basics so you can tweak the effect to what you want to create.

I might post a video of it later this week to show it off too.

It'd be fun to have lasers and mirrors to bounce and splice lethal (or nonlethal) lasers. Heck, it'd be fun to just have mirrors that you can resize (new material). The glass could come into use here.

"Lightning" is a better pair for tesla coils, having it shoot across and arch between coils. It would fork between multiple coils and maybe even have a detector so it 'powers' machines.

but all this seems like stuff that would tax the processor. Maybe when the ps4 comes out with LBP3 lololo

LOL i was saying the same thing about the ice BRING IT BACK there should be a slice hazard lol (pretty demented XD) where you shoot a disk or ninja star or maybe a lazer and depending on where on the sackboy it hits that limb falls off but you keep walking (or hoping) if you lose 1 leg for example and you crawl if you lose both legs XD2010-09-27 22:54:00

I'm pretty sure I saw this done on LBP1 so it will probably be easier in LBP2.

Yeah this would be cool

-Wind (A tweakable tool to create wind, so for example if wind blew right, it would be harder to move left and if in air it would blow you the direction its blowing. You can have the wind be constant, or set to a frequency, strength setting too, etc.)
Have the playable character a sackbot and when you want the wind to blow use an XOR switch to active the slower mover and dis-active the normal speed mover and emitt some leaves blowing in that direction and stuff?

-Real Lava (This is much the same as water except it looks like lava and of course is thicker than water. So I might say, create a level where you climb a tower or something with lava rising slowly from below as example.)
Can be done emitting some redish, oranges colour material (best a rectangle and flat-ish shaped material) and set its "destroy mode" to splash and it looks like a gooey substance and it you put loads of emitters around the place emitting at a 0.01 speed and a 0.01 Lifetime it will look like lave (Won't kill you but put some fire under what its going to emitt on and it will be hazzard fire)

Ice is the only one I can't think of a way to do, and I don't think its possible unless they add it as a download
(You'd think after two years they would have fixed the glitches with it )

Or more then likely, they have not worked on it at all and have not even have had it
on their backburners anymore honestly i bet they have forgot all about it,

Also if all else fails we can remake most hazards by hand in lbp2,
i think even ice could be made with a little thinking *mew

Thing is, Lasers do not elctrocute you, or gas you. And the burn animation doesn't match it either.

Oh well, we'll survive.

Perhaps I mis-read then? I was under the impression she was looking for something like a tesla coil electrical beam with arcs of electricity jumping between two or more poles (in which case the electricity death would be a good match... not a laser beam. Well... if it's just an actual beam weapon hazard than that's a fraction of the work than what I had in mind. Easy peasy to do that.

Edit: I don't know what kind of smiley this gas mask is supposed to express, but I'm adding it 'cause it looks cool.

Hmm for some non normel death animations...
i'd think putting a Kill O Manic Button on a Sackbot could work...
theres like some nice looking ways to die on it~ :3 *mew

True, but as as much as is possible with sackbots also eats X amount more thermo.

Oh well. I'm just say'n. Just cause some one needs to defend why we need R34L L4Z0Rz.

Yeah was thinking the in a microchip... just was un100%sure if that works right,
but like you said, i'd not see why it should not work? *mew
