Kooky Kody's Kraptastic KustomCheckpoint Tutorial

Archive: 7 posts

(Epic Name?)

Do you want a custom checkpoint?
Well of course you do! If you don't, why the poop are you here? Now, to make a custom checkpoint,
you need:

Thin Thick Material
A checkpoint/entrance
emitter
brains (For the zombies )

Now you have all those, I will tell you how to make a custom checkpoint. Surprised? I hope not, this is a tutorial for petes sake!

1. Creating the Mini Checkpoint
Now first, you need to save a checkpoint. Saving it will be important, kay? Now, take out an emitter.
(PICTURE WILL BE ADDED HERE)
Now, put it on a material in your level, and set the lifetime to infinity. Make sure it's emitting the checkpoint you saved, but smaller. Now, save the smaller one. Repeat this process until you can barely see the checkpoint. Tadaa, you have a teeny-weeny checkpoint!
(PICTURE WILL BE ADDED HERE)

2. Thin Thicking and Finalizing
Now, you have the mini checkpoint, right? Good. Take your thin thick material, and make it as you want. For this tutorial, I am making a star.
(PICTURE WILL BE ADDED HERE)
Now, if you want any other additions, make them.
(PICTURE WILL BE ADDED HERE)

Now, you can place an invisible or slightly visible peice of dark matter behind the thin thick. Glue it, and the thin thick will float.

Now, take the mini checkpoint, and stick it in your thin thick.
(PICTURE WILL BE ADDED HERE)
This will give off the effect you are spawning from the thin thick. Change the material, add pistons, chains, whatever you want, and tadaaa, you have a custom checkpoint!
(PICTURE WILL BE ADDED HERE)

PLEASE NOTE:
YOU CAN NOT PLACE ANY THICK MATERIALS IN FRONT OF THE CHECKPOINT, AS THIN THICK IS IN THE THICK LAYERS/CHECKPOINT LAYERS.

THIN THICK IS THE ORIGINAL NAME FOR THECK, FOOLS.

You can do this for any checkpoints, infinite life, double life, whatever.
Please make sure the checkpoint style fits the level, I'd hate to see poorly made customs in levels >.>

I WILL ADD PICTURES WHEN I CAN >.>

If you make a checkpoint to small, the game doesn't let you spawn from it does it? I know this used to be the case a while ago - I don't know if it was patched or whatnot.2010-09-24 07:48:00

Can you please change the font colour? Yellow is a right pain in the behind to read on a white background.

Not a bad little tutorial though, at the very least it should get some people being more creative with their checkpoints. I've personally never liked the standard checkpoint design. I find that there are very few levels where a checkpoint looks good. I also find that, along with simply customising checkpoints, people should try to work them into a levels environment. So the player, for example, spawns out of a door, pipe, tree hollow or something.

btw thin thick material is generally known here as theck.

small/ diminute CP's will let you spawn unless you make them "too" small, but that's just like way beyond the normal "invisible" checkpioint.

Also, I second the "changing the font color" thing, its pretty annoying tbh...

And like he also said, its known as just Theck m8.

I've never knew of this too happen. But you won't spawn if it's near something, put it in the air and it will work.

Yes, but you won't be able to attach a switch to it unless it's visible.

Anyways, by thin thick, do you mean theck?
