Excitement made my brian expolde!!!
Archive: 13 posts
Ok this is my first post, except for my introduction. After watching some LBP2 vids and checking out some of the new features, I have too many ideas of what I want to try and make! So I thought I'd join up here to what seems to be the best site for LBP and let my brain spill out all over these forums, so then maybe I'll give you some Ideas or you might be able to suggest some ways to help me make some of the levels in the near futu re. Right so the first thing which popped in my head when i saw the way you can use music and also record your own voice over the cut scenes, was to create a noir detective game where I'd compose a walking bass jazz loop and narrate the main characters thoughts over the top in a cheesy new york accent, if you see what I mean. As the tools look much better for creating a story game and I'm a musician so I'd enjoy playing with ideas to impement music themes into the game, for instance with this noir idea I could add random chords or solos at differant points of interaction in the level. actually I have loads of ideas of how I'm going to try music and story with this theme, just hope I can achieve what I have in my head. next idea isn't a fleshed out as the first, but I'd like to try and make a point and click adventure game like monkey island/broken sword...ect as seeing you can make a RTS game by clicking on things, I'm sure I can come up with a way to make this work....I might even try to incorperate this into the noir game as It would work for solving puzzels and cules with some good old platforming thown in there too, I'm also hoping to make it funny but with some serious plot points too. Other concept ideas will be to make some old school gems in the LBP style, this has been done a lot i know but the games I want to recreate will be very differant from the original ones and a little obscure from what most people have tried...these games include, Frontier Elite (space trading game on c64 and amiga) I think I try this top down angled, a bit like the killzone remake on the psp, if you see where i coming from. also games like another classic c64 game "Silkworm" (where it's 2 player one flys a chopper the other player is in a jeep) and maybe even some random games like wizball and cauldren. Well thats what I'll be aiming for over the next year, I really wanted to get my ideas out there to see what you all think and hopefully i'll be able to make some of these with a little help from you guys. though by the time I get the game I'm sure to have lots more ideas, I just hope I can pull at least one of them off into a fun playable game for all you sack people out there. thanks for reading, please tell me what you think. | 2010-09-22 16:40:00 Author: Charleston Posts: 15 |
I really like the sound of the detective game. The atmosphere you'd create with the music and 'noir' style would be brilliant! Since you are new here I'll let you know that if you need some recruits to help with anything head over to the 'Happy Gadders' section. Oh and with what seems to be an over-active imagination will fit in here perfectly! Welcome. | 2010-09-22 17:16:00 Author: Jedi_1993 Posts: 1518 |

Alas, Poor Brian, I knew him well, and it is a shame he expolded | 2010-09-22 19:50:00 Author: Matimoo Posts: 1027 |
Poor Brian No, don't worry, he doesn't really explode, he just expoldes! Anyway, you've got some good ideas, I like the idea of a noir detective game (maybe a Point&Click ?) in LBP2. | 2010-09-22 19:52:00 Author: Oddmania Posts: 1305 |
LOL oops!! I feel very stupid now, I guess I should have named the thread, "So excited I forgot how to spell" ummmmm I'm sure there are several more mistakes in there and I'd rather not read back through it just to help me forget this sad day. ....well apart from that I hope you got what Brian had to say. My dear Brian. I did have some more Ideas I just forgot what they were, I'll post them here when I remember. | 2010-09-22 20:57:00 Author: Charleston Posts: 15 |
I thought it was meant to be misspelt as your brain had exploded! Oh well... | 2010-09-23 16:47:00 Author: Jedi_1993 Posts: 1518 |
Well your half right, it was all spelled wrong because my brain had exploded...but I didn't want it or even knew it had happened until you guys pointed it out, ironicly this is the exact oppisite thing I do on my LBP levels, I end up making a level and then go though it again and again making sure its all perfect, with this crazy first message I just rushed it and didn't bother to even read the title again....first impressions ay?? lol I have learned a valuable lesson to not make a fool of myself on these forums ever again. But I am going to flesh out the Story and some game logic for my point and click noir detective game and make a new post for it, it'd be good to get some more feedback from you guys to help me think of some cool ways to make it work. for instance I'm trying to figure out a way I can have an inventory for the main character...maybe using lots of create-inators or something like that...or some sort of off screen panel in the foreground layre you can summon using a six-axis button. I guess this will be easier to figure out when the game comes out but if anyone has the beta and can give me some ideas on how I might achieve this, that would be great. | 2010-09-23 21:33:00 Author: Charleston Posts: 15 |
Sounds nice! Person: What are you thinking, detective? She asked me what I was thinking. Truth is, I was thinking about kittens, but I'd never let her know that. Detective: I was.....thinking.....about....the case..... Yes, the case! Person: Good I had escaped suspicion, for now. | 2010-09-24 06:48:00 Author: tomodon246 Posts: 624 |
Tomodon that reminds me so much of the Whose line games. I'll post a video too cause it has some music you might want as an example for your levels. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9-0gPOgUMRg | 2010-09-24 08:53:00 Author: Snappyguy Posts: 710 |
HAHAHA!!!!!!! Yes Yes YES!! This is what I'm talking about! Very funny indeed, I think that kitten line will make me laugh all day. Plus thanks for the "Whose Line" Video, I can't watch it yet as the computer I'm on is rubbish and has no sound and very little memory, but I'll check it out when I'm home. I think I would have seen it as I've watch most...if not all of them lots of times and this was one of the better games. Thanks again! I do have a lot of ideas how the music will go in my head...I think I'll have the talking over just the hi-hat with a swing feel...then when you gain control of the character again bring in the walking bass line and have random jazz chords ect thrown in when you do certain things in the level. Though I'll know more about what I'm doing when I experiment making the level. The story will be a classic, detective who has retired, but suddenly the love of his life disappears and pulls him back for one last case....then lots of crazy twist and turn will happen along the way. I really can't wait to make this level....no not level...GAME!!! | 2010-09-24 12:23:00 Author: Charleston Posts: 15 |
With 50's remakes I really don't care about all the cliche's, they make it heaps cool to me so it sounds good. You'd probably remember the times that they do that gun thing at the end. Found an awesome gif for it too (http://colinfails.ytmnd.com/) | 2010-09-24 14:07:00 Author: Snappyguy Posts: 710 |
