Guide to Materials, Objects, Stickers & Decorations from the Beta

Archive: 74 posts


These are the New Materials available in the Beta (More to be added). Many of these materials are obtained by capturing materials in the tutorials, and by using the "god-glitch". The names of these materials are unknown so I have guessed their names in red.

Thanks to the discovers of the god glitch and to Ungreth for posting some new materials (More to come soon).

Btw - you might want to change the order you list the materials to left to right for all of them. Working out the clokwise order got a bit confusing

One annoying thing about that material you can't see in Rhys' picture is the border on the edge is only on the front of the material. It's fine for thin stuff but can look a bit weird if it's thick. But that can easily be worked around depending on how you use it.

Actually, from my knowledge It shows on the side when its thick.. theres some on the right side of gevurah's streetfighter level as a fence.... or am i mistaken?

Yeah, I wanted to make a net, but was stopped in my tracks by that.

Ten of these are obtained by capturing materials in the tutorials, and the other 25 are collected in the 3 main story levels. The names of the materials obtained from the tutorials are unknown so I have guessed their names in red.

Noob question.

All the materials from LBP1 are also usable (or will be in the final game) right?

And you forgot Light Matter.

Also, I've been taking pics of materials and slapping that pic on dark matter to help disguise it. Only kind of works.
Could someone take a pic of a material, slap it on light matter and take a pic of stickered light matter and the origonal material side by side?

I have extra materials that aren't on that list. Some guy at the beta forums found a bug which let him use the create tools anywhere, including his pod and inside the story levels. He published a level last night, giving away a load of stuff that's not supposed to be available yet, including a working in-out mover, 3 new materials, all the story level character costumes, the pod controller as a decoration, and more. Mm had locked the level down when I checked this morning and have asked the guy not to give this stuff away, but luckily I got in there and grabbed all the goodies last night before it got locked.

The working in-out mover is interesting, is it the exact same tool?

Yeah, I got most of these myself.

@Ungreth: That last material (black and covered in gubbins) looks to be stickered black. If memory serves me correct all the objects that material is covered in are of their natural colour. Try deleting the stickers and give it another go!!

AFAIK, The cow glitch was obtained by capturing it in the tutorials and the bubblewrap was obtained by using the "god glitch". They were both obtainable before the patch.

Unfortunately, the bubblewrap material doesn't make a popping sound, but you could probably simulate it somehow.

Yep the jukebox is only that big, so it probably is one of those table ones. If it were any larger it would probably have to go into objects, and besides, since it's a realistic item, a realistically scaled jukebox would be large than any other object we have access to.2010-10-08 08:12:00

Uhmmm... where's the rest of the jukebox? Did your pic get cut off, or did they actually only give half of a juke box? I can't really tell from the pic... is it maybe one of those table top juke box systems we used to see in diners at each table maybe?

Yeah, what croissantbuncake said. Also, when you place it, the top of the jukebox faces out. In order for the front of the jukebox to be seen, you have to place it on the top face of the material (Which explains the tiny, triangular piece of thick hologram material).

Yep, that is a laser. I don't think it's working properly at the moment though.
Currently, it acts like a normal LED. Changing the colour of the light has no effect on the colour of the laser (It stays white). In the picture, the laser is set to a shade of purple, but there is only a purple haze around the main part.

I'll add descriptions to the objects tomorrow; it's getting late.

It's still the same, unfortunately. If an object is only 1 layer, then you can't make it 2 or 3 layers.

There is a smooth thin layer lamp available in the tutorials and a LED (light object that behaves as a piece of logic and can therefore be placed on a microchip!!) can be obtained from the arcade machines in "Lift Off" (warning: LEDs are very buggy, the first time I isolated one the system crashed, in another instance it suddenly ceased to glow, even on foggy, and it once "stained" itself into the game in the sense that the fog glow produced by it returned with me to the pod!!).

Some observations on the "rock cake" material: I noticed that it makes the same sounds as a "sponge" material, and it's the same shape as most of the sponges. However, it's the same weight as wood and it's not grabbable in it's default state. I wouldn't be surprised if "rock cake" is moved from the "wood" section to the "sponge" section in the full game.

I'm looking for the 3D sacbot decoration pieces. When I had the first (and wrong) version of the beta, I could see them in two places on the level where you have to save the sackbots, but in the patched version they are replaced by a drawing of a sackbot. Is there any way to get these back again or are they hidden in the levels somewhere I'm not seeing? I really need them for this level I'm working on before the beta ends.2010-10-22 21:25:00

I don't think you can get them in "pipe dreams" anymore. Though, this level is giving the decorations away http://beta.lbp.me/v/x9x4.

The second ball is a metal one like from a pinball machine, and the third ball is just a soft spongy ball.
