They say in the message that this is a MASSIVE UNDERTAKING, plus right under the message is an AD to hire a Tester. So they probably ran into more bugs and problem then they can manage in a short time. In all honesty LBP2 is a revolutionary game !!! I do hope that they use this time to add more power ups. I don't feel that just 3 power ups one of which is a "jump pad" is enough. I WANT MORE. Like make jet boots that can glide over surfaces and have a limited boost or something cool like that. I WANT MORE POWER UPS TO COMPENSATE FOR THIS DELAY ******. And a beta code please. PSN=XCO2010-09-24 16:46:00

How is the jump pad a power up. They have added a grappling hook, creatinator, powergloves and in a way the DCS is one aswell.2010-09-24 16:52:00

I WANT MORE

this phrase right here....is why Mm has a hard time providing excellent service to us...because when they do...it's not enough for you is it? you always want to be greedy and want more...i think these powerups are enough...if anything i just want my melee weapon and i can wait until they make the perfect one...and when they do i'll be satisfied and leave it at that...honestly tho let's not fall into GREED....always asking for more is what caused the News planet to NEVER get an update...at least thats how i see it considering they've had to cater to all our DLC needs and a want for MORE

Like others, I am glad that this is happened. The only reason for that is I would not even be able to buy the game until January anyway, as I can't really afford it among other things. So, I'm happy that I won't be getting the game later than everyone else.2010-09-24 19:24:00

For everyone who is saying they are glad it is delayed, did anyone really read the title and say "Yes its delayed! No one can play LBP2 until January! YAY!" I would be pretty surprised if anyone actually did that then I would be very surprised2010-09-24 19:38:00

Okay, LBP2 delayed until January. Fine. Who cares? What I want to know is if I pre-ordered the Collectors Edition, will I still get my Sackboy plushie on time? I can't be the only one worried about this? Even if it's a beta version and the stitching is not quite right, I WANT MY SACKBOY!!!2010-09-24 20:04:00

Here seems to be a pretty big bug...

But not hard to fix probably, it seems to me like its simply dissolving everything that is glued to the object with the destroyer. So they just add in to dissolve everything that is glued that is not the floor. Big bug, simple fix. There are probably more bugs that seem small that could be quite the problem to fix.

Look up, look down, look all around this thread (and others) and you will see that it's rife with comments from spoiled little brats saying just how happy they are that we can't have something before they can. So I'd say it's a resounding yes. :/

N64 is possibly the best game system of all time! I still have mine with all 4 controllers and the classic games! Except one of the controllers is broken.

well i'm sure MM know what they're doing by delaying this, and i'm not too disapointed by a 2 month set back, but couldn't we get the game and they patch the game like crazy every few weeks?! ....i wonder if they found a glitch so game breaking they had to go back to the drawing board2010-09-24 22:31:00

Knowingly putting out a buggy game would be iresponsible of Mm, and not in character for them. It would make most of the community pretty upset with them I think. They need to find and sort out as many problems before release for many many reasons. Beta's often result in games being pushed back, so this is nothing unusual. As for a major game breaking flaw that forced them back to the drawing board... I doubt it... but who knows? It could be a combination of multiple tiny bugs, one tiny bug affecting other bugs thereby creating a major bug, or one huge bug they missed somehow. Fact is, we don't know and likely won't know unless someone here gets a hold of Mm's meeting minutes. It's all irrelevant at this point. All we can do is wait patiently for the day to come when we know that the games are on the factory line being pressed and packaged.

Sigh... you guys... why would a delay kill all the hype? Valve delayed Portal 2, and I know for a fact there isn't less hype... perhaps even more hype.

Stop being stupid. LBP2 will be better for it, and it says specifically in the blog that they thought hard about it before doing it. It wasn't easy for them, either.

Many, many games have survived a delay, and LBP2 will too. If you're so lame that you can't give Mm the benefit of the doubt that their decision to delay wasn't fully thought out, you don't deserve to get LBP2 in all its glory.

At the end of the day if MM think the game needs delayed then it needs delayed. Those guys care about the video games they make and their not going to release something that isn't up to the very high standard that LBP was. Plus, you can't really feel sorry for them because I'm sure they got a bollocking off of Sony for it lol2010-09-25 00:13:00

All MM needs to do to keep us happy is run the beta well.

I personally am also saddened by the news. It is something I was REALLY looking forward to having before the Holidays and I didn't really see this coming. We had finally gotten down to having just less than 2 months left before the game was supposed to be released, and then BAM! I do realize that in the end, we will have a better product because of this delay, but it's still disappointing none-the-less. :/2010-09-25 02:36:00

...Which is why we?ve taken the hard decision to delay the worldwide release of LittleBigPlanet 2, originally slated for later this year to January 2011.

And the moral of the story is?

YOU CAN'T TRUST THE SYSTEM..... maaaannn.

This is quite unfortunate. However, if this makes the game better, we won't care about the extra wait. Plus, this gives us time to squeeze in one last level. (or one first level, in my case)
The last game was delayed due to song lyrics; at least this game has a good, if ambiguous, cause for delay. Then again, there could just be some new, random problem with the game that is not code-releated, like the song from the first game. (For example, "Avalon" is also the name of a car manufactured by Toyota)

Oh, well.
"A delayed game is eventually good, but a rushed game is forever bad." -Shigeru Miyamoto

So, don't get too upset.

Maybe you should stop being so lazy and build a time machine so that you can go back a year and warn Mm of THE IMPENDING DOOM already. Epic fail? Monkeys being hired? I think that's a little rich, and certainly a slap in Mm's face at best. What exactly do you know about developing games and meeting deadlines that makes you such an overly critical expert anyways? How many beta's have you been involved in to understand that this happens from time to time with games? It's too bad your crystal ball of clairvoyance can let you see well enough into the future during the beta to know that trouble was a-brewing, yet couldn't conjure the image of your post and how selfish, smug, and illogical it reads.

All this whining like spoiled three year olds isn't likely sitting well with Mm or the majority of other members on this forum. It's getting really tiresome. Are you people ever satisfied when you come across small bumps in the road in your lives? You'd think someone just murdered your dog the way you carry on.

Words from the wise: Life sucks... get a helmet.

Seriously kids... please stop with the whining! Let's keep the tone of this forum positive.

I can't believe the comments I've been reading... How dare people insult Mm! I mean seriously, they made LittleBigPlanet. They are making LittleBigPlanet 2. And frankly, we should just wait. We still don't know the exact reason the game was delayed, anyway. Were people this mean on this site when the original game was delayed? Or was there simply not that many people here then... I don't know.
I remember that this site's forums used to be great and positive- now, not so much. I'd say that it's due to so many new faces here, but I've seen smaller forums that are much worse, like the SuperMarioBros X forums. (Which consequently no longer exist) Is it just entropy?
The communitoy is what makes LittleBigPlanet fun. The cool levels pages are already gone; please, LBPC, don't die on us. Where will I go- LittleBigLand? Or maybe ModNationRacers Central...
Anyway *back to LBP2*, when the new game is released, will this site be there as it was for the first game, or will it be stuck reminiscing of bygone days? As long as we stay positive, I think everything will be fine...
...what do I know?... I'm probably overreacting... There's still a lot of great stuff here!

Ya i know, they should be happy that the game is going to be better from day 1 now. Not full of bugs. But I'm not saying I would rather have the game come out in January. I wish it was in November, but it isn't so thats too bad. We just got to wait a little longer.

I'm pretty sad that this happened, but hey, at least I'm gonna have Dead Rising 2, learning pro keys/guitar in Rock Band 3, my other PS3 games I haven't touched yet, and a myriad of other games to distract me, haha. Plus there's always the chance of getting into beta when they put out the US codes.

Still can't believe the bugs are so bad that it warrants a delay, though, I'm fairly sure this wasn't MM's fault, but the bigwigs at Sony wanting to pad out the finances or whatever. Hopefully with the extra time MM adds in some more cool content (MOAR COSTOOMZ PRZ) and adds a level of polish rarely seen elsewhere.

Point taken. It's just difficult to stay away because there are plenty of good and positive posts containing good ideas in this thread, and I hate having to sift through all the selfish negativity. I guess I'm just too old to have much patience for this kind of thinking, and I don't have kids of my own to bring up properly... so I end up correcting the mistakes of other parents' failures. Lolz.

I'll still be lurking on this thread because I think it still has some value as a conversation... but I'll refrain from scolding those who need it most and just bite my tongue. Now I'm off to other threads to see what else I can learn about this great new sequel, and how I can become a better creator for it.

This news doesn't bother me as much as I thought it would.

The beta is great, no doubt about it. BUT- you can tell it's a beta. The game doesn't seem finished IMO. From the first time I played the beta, all that was running through my mind was "how are they going to get this shipped in 2 months?" The core is there, but a lot of little problems would mean that LBP2's release would've been less epic than it deserves.

This is a good thing, and when we all get the final thing in January, we'll be glad we're playing a polished and fun game, instead of a buggy and sometimes irritating one.

If we're lucky, MM will pull back the release date to mid-December or something, but I guess that's wishful thinking, but I still can't grasp why they wouldn't release this before Christmas.2010-09-27 09:52:00

Whatever needs fixing must be more than 5 weeks of extra work.

It's too bad your crystal ball of clairvoyance can let you see well enough into the future during the beta to know that trouble was a-brewing, yet couldn't conjure the image of your post and how selfish, smug, and illogical it reads.

thats some testicular fortitude your showing right there bravo, but seriously right setting a release date in stone and then delaying it is a smack in the face for people on the forum who are waiting for the game, and another thing with the topic of discussion such as is its to be expected that some people myself included arent best pleased so not all comments are going to be positive take it or leave it, clearly u need to get out more and not try to preach your way when its clear im not the only person thats annoyed about the news

Rabid is right. Just take a look at some of the threads dealing with the new engines and you'll begin to see that there may be more problems than we (and perhaps even Mm) might have anticipated with backward compatibility. That'd be my guess anyways, but I don't work for them so I can't say for sure. Beta's are often riddled with major bugs that have gone undedected during regular testing, and push-back dates occur all the time. We're all very disappointed, but I'm sure this decision in all of our best interest.

Out of respect for RTM, the other mods, and the other members of this forum I'm going to try to keep this as short and sweet and as civil as I can. First of all, thanks for the compliment on my fortitude... I've worked hard these past 41 years to attain it and don't plan on getting rid of it any time soon.... take it or leave it. We're all waiting for the game and are all bummed out with the release date being pushed.... you don't own the copyright on disappointment. The difference is that "most" of us members are not coming on complaining about it as though Mm somehow "owes" us something and that they are giant boobs for not finding all the bugs in pre-testing, or those that should have or could have been found in the beta phase. If memory serves, in your initial response you stated that you had not read the entire post. Had you done so, you would have seen the amount and level of childish selfish complaining that has reared it's ugly head and known that the second half of my response was to the complainers in general. You might have also taken a moment to think about what you were going to write, instead of firing off the first thing that popped into your head.... thus avoiding the negative tone of your actual post. Trust me, the mods don't appreciate that sort of whining and negative attitude any more than the rest of us do. It's annoying when people who know nothing about a topic complain about it when things don't go their way and they can't understand why. If you can't understand why they didn't see this coming or why they had to push the date back, then you aren't qualified to make judgements about the people involved or to act like you are somehow better or more knowledgeable.... you're not.

As for getting out more, you are absolutely right. I've only gone out 4 or 5 times (in the past week alone) to see a concert, meet with friends, see a movie, jam with some other musicians, get a massage, do some shopping, and party on two or three occasions. Clearly... I need to get out more.

If you'd care to discuss this further, please do it in a PM so we don't further clutter up the thread with arguementatives that will annoy the other members of the forum.

Cheers!

I've been waiting for LBP2 ever since I read about it in the Game Informer issue a long while back. I was sad enough after I realized that my 30+ levels and 350+ hours on LBP didn't get me in the beta. :/ Just to confirm, MM has posted this on BOTH www.littlebigplanet.com AND www.mediamolecule.com.... so sadly, it must be true. That video by Dragonember pretty much displays my thoughts :O2010-09-28 02:31:00

After realising I'm actually pretty skint, I'm not that upset either. Christmas brings money, money brings LBP2

Having said that, does anyone here think we will get anything new? I don't think so personally, but wouldn't it be nice if we booted up the game and there was some new extra feature they hadn't told us about?

It also means I can actually make the LBP1 level that had been sitting in my mind's 'LBP level gutter' now

U know what? I'm kinda glad it's delayed. So what, it means we have to wait another short 2 months! I don't mind as long as something good comes of it. They are probably working on intergrating new tech like PS move compatability and 3D. I'm really surprised that no one here has lashed out at MM, it's not their fault, they are doing it for the greater good. So yeah, keep that up!2010-09-29 00:08:00

In the end, a delay means good things to come. Look at things that SHOULD have been delayed- LBP PSP for example. That one could use some fine tuning. And look at things that WERE delayed- LBP1. It was amazing, was it not? Lets hope Duke Nukem turns out for the better... .... .......... eventually.2010-09-29 00:28:00

I don't see this as a big, huge deal.

"Oh noes! I get LBP2 two months later!" Boohoo. It won't kill you, and nothing bad will come from it. Only good!

Even if we don't have backwards compatibility, we can still play the levels on the original game's servers. Right!?
What if I want to play Up & Away in Sky Town with better graphics!? Then what!?
Of course, we could just remake all of our levels in LBP2.

The reason this is such a big deal to me is because I have college all year long except for a two week break for Christmas. During that time I would love to have this game a truly enjoy it uninterrupted.2010-09-29 06:08:00

This is actually pretty decent of Mm to do.

Instead of going ahead as scheduled and releasing a game that they are not happy with, but make the big bucks over Christmas; they postpone it to give US the community the best game that they could possibly make.

So for this, I applaud you Mm. Even though you are now a giant in the gaming industry, fans are worth more to you than money.....I like that a lot.

Totally forgot it comes out late January! Oh well, time to save up money for DLC. Also they might fix up the collectors edition for all countries.

I suppose this is good in a way, it must of made someone allow for more beta invites. Get the people who are still pretty annoyed by it into the game and see why it needs fixing and why they should keep their preorder.

Just for you: The Beta is NOT some glorified demo of sorts.
The Beta is to test the game for bugs. Which they obviously found.

Anyone yet to hear of an official UK release date?

I contacted MM on monday (Atleast I think it was monday ) about Amazon sending me an email when the delay was announced that it would be dispatched on the 19th of November. Never got a reply, but the day after the email a lot of websites had a shoofty around with the dates (Still the same dispatch date for my order though ). Coincidence? I think not (or is it?)...

I think someone should have an idea by now....(Otherwise i've magically avoided a completely obvious answer while roaming through dozens of forum posts and vids).

No official release date for Europe yet. January 2011 for the UK (which I assume includes Scotland.)
Going by the official website, the Netherlands doesn't even have a month yet. Just a very non-committal "2011".

^ THIS a million times

because I KNOW like 55% of the people begging to be in the beta aren't begging to test the game for bugs and take this seriously (I say 55% as an estimate because I know there are those who care enough about the beta to take it seriously and test it out...but most people begging are just wanting a free taste of LBP2 before release :/)

In the end I hope the people who really care about bug reporting will be in the beta...you know, the ones who actually DESERVE it

Just checked on Playstation forums -LBP 2 WAS DELAYED BECAUSE SOME PS3'S ARE NOT CONNECTED TO THE INTERNET!!

I thought it was because the game is so buggy that they want more time to fix all the stuff.

The point was that they wanted the version on disc to be as bug free as possible, rather than ship something that was buggy as hell in the hopes that a day one patch would fix it all.

Obviously, the fact that many of them were working ridiculous hours to try and meet an impossible deadline had no bearing on it

..and imagine how many messages involving all caps would come out if the disc shipped with tons of bugs! lol

I think they are doing the responsible thing considering their circumstances. Could you imagine buying anything else and hoping for patches on day one so you could even play it? I don't think you would have a high opinion of them. ...even less than the ones not having their PS3's hooked to the internet.

I agreed imagine if you dont have internet in your PS3 that means, well lets do the math

PS3 with no internet+LBP2 without a delayed= A game that you cant update so you are stuck with the bugs.
