The Evil Analogue Stick of Death...

Archive: 14 posts

Right, my brother's PSP has suffered much. Endless button mashing by him on Flatout, slams of frustration by me with a freezes, drops of water, dust...

Anyway, the mini analogue stick has obviously had to put up with the most abuse, and it seems to be finally getting its revenge. It is REFUSING to move upwards, however hard you press it, and it is constantly trying to move down, even when you aren't touching it. This is making cornerediting pretty much impossible, and its driving me crazy.

Is there any solution? The situation is becoming worse, the PSP is getting more and more stubborn. It's becoming a constant battle to create levels. I need help!

ARD's advice = expensive

Anyanyanywho, Contact sony, they always know what to do...unless they give ARD's advice.

Try to find a new analog stick and replace it.They are also one of the easiest things to find and replace on the psp,you can find them everywhere!(pawn shops, dead psp's,friends, ebay, bla bla). You'll need some kind of srewdriver that can open the psp though.

Don't get scared, replacing buttons, screens, cover, analog sticks,etc... is so easy even a noob can do it (l could why...not you?).That's the only cheap alternative l got.lf you want to do it go to youtube for some tutorials.

My brothers did this at one point, but it wasn;t too bad. I took off the analogue stick top (I always do this anyway) and then pulled the stick as far upwards as possible.

Probably not a reliable fix, but messing around with it might work

That happened to my psp 2000, so annoying. I busted one of the screws, so I can't open it. Be careful, anything that gets into the system such as dust can seriosly spaz it up. It will also void your warranty, so be sure it's the only option before emptying the insides of your psp. You probably want to look for some loose solder, frayed, broken or twisted wires, or some strange midget alien with a grudge against you and your psp. Clean everything carefully, and try to put everything back in it's place!2010-09-21 21:53:00

this happened to an old xbox controler but my bro fixed it, Mind you he did fix a tiny black and white tv by drilling a hole in the top of it and jamming a screwdriver in it for channel changing (true story)2010-09-21 22:55:00

Thanks for all the advice! I might have a go at replacing it, but for safeties sake I may give into the more experienced hands of my good old (jk!) dad. He is good at fixing things, I tend to be better at destroying them. 2010-09-22 19:36:00

Try contacting sony, then beg them to replace it for you. They're experienced at this kind of crud.2010-09-24 16:46:00

Last June(2009), my analog stick moved fine, but every so often the system acted like the analog stick was having a seasure for a fraction of a second. So when I played Midnight Club LA Remix, the game would flash the screen around the car in a session of jerks and spasms.(the analog stick lets you look around your car) I eventually sold my PSP with the $50 4GB sony memory stick(that was before they got the $20 4GB SD memory stick) to Game-Stop(Never using game-stop again, rip-offs), right when I saw that LBP was coming out for PSP and there would be a demo. So I waited for Christmas to get the money for another PSP and LBP(At the same time actually).

Luckily I got the PSP 3000 GranTerismo Entertainment pack and LBP.

Anyway, lets get back on-topic.

Welcome to my world. This is my I have nearly given up on the psp side. I called Soy when this happened to me and they said it's gonna cost about $80 dollars to fix. What's strange is that whenever I play Fat Princess it seems to work fine. Hope you get it repaired!2010-09-24 22:16:00
