Beta Community Levels (videos)

Lovelly little animation. LBP's glow really helps the mood. The actual level must look a mess wil loads of pieces and connections! Saddly didn't had much plays i plan to make tutorial today how to make sychro dancers that stay in place since normal synchronization of all movements is possible by simply placing so called wireless controlinator with override turned on sackbot, but thats unpractical

This is obviously more a proof of concept than a proper mini-game and it still needs some quite a bit of tweaking. That said I probably won't fix much since I have moved on to other concepts already and each of the levels I publish in the beta are just my attempts to understand what is possible and what is not, so all levels are build around one idea. In this case that is creating paths on the go and getting objects to follow these paths.

I will probably take a video of some other levels later tonight once the sun has gone down and there are less reflections on my TV.

OK, the easier method turned out to be not so easy (surprise surprise) and works out way more thermo inefficient. The primary method suffers from the awkwardness of the latency bug which is now apparently fixed, but we may well not be seeing said fix in the beta.

Well my simpler method turned out to be trash, and my original method is really, really unstable (due to a particular bug in beta that we are unlikely to see a fix for until release). However, I thought up and even simpler method, that requires use of a single select switch and that's all! All you have to do is to wire each output (n) of the select into input (n+1). The system neatly adds in the 1/30 seconds delay and creates a progression @ 30Hz. The only downside is that it's not possible to stop on a particular frame and then continue (although it's possible to set specific breakpoints I think), but you can get it to play once, loop until a stop signal is sent and then restart from frame 1, etc. I'm quite chuffed tbh.

So, who wants to make the slickest animations LBP has ever seen?

Stop raiding my mind before I post.

I was thinking your original better solution was going to be the selector switch thing.

Pah. Next time I should just post lol.

So, if someone could please test this for me; here is my general idea, and steps as to how I would think it could be done:

Make some rock in the front (only front) thick layer. Make it so it is like a hillside with a little depression it in. (where, irl, there would be a pool of water.)

Now, make a water bullet and on it, wire an impact sensor to a destroy switch set to liquify. (switches invisible) then copy about 10 or so so that they fill the pool with "water".

Capture the "water" and make a 0.0 emitter with inf life and 5-10 max emitted at a time. Emit the water directly above the surface of the depression in the rock.

I just got a look at our "Logic IslAND" lvl you imported into LBP2 Luos. So awesome, the new engine really looks great and I was pleased that all the visible logic items that were decorations stayed the same. All the stone switches and logic monuments look so good, hands down some of the best looking objects I have ever made for any lvl.

Now I needs to see some video of the UFO lvl...

Agreed. Logic IslAND looked incrediblygood running on the new engine. The materials looked sharper, especially the stone and wood, and the lighting seemed much enhanced. Very, very nice.

Yea but you need that emulation circuit to sychro emotion that you seen in video, i not hard to make your own if you got some logic design skills. But it's only need if you want to synchronize (this includes situation if you use mounted sackboy to control sackbot), to control emotion you just need behavior chips and you don't need other controlinator for that

And yea rtm was first who mention about control override on forums and mistakenly rediscover it while playing with sackbot my self and decide demo it, since it's cool tech

haha, as if it is easy to keep up with rtm. I consider myself fairly intelligent but that guy makes me feel like my brain is made up of stale molasses and bits of kibble. I will be spending much time absorbing the intricacies of his explanations of the new logic.

The beauty of all the logic discovered in LBP2 so far is in its simplicity, even the most complex things are neatly broken down into modular systems, it's not the monstrosity that was LBP1 logic. Which I am adept at enough but still find it disgusting

Sure, one DCS on the Sackbot another one to control it. Connect the button you want to use to make the Sackbot jump to the X button on the Sackbots DCS.

Lot of things, this 3D forward effect it's quite limited, you can go only forward and sterf there is other limits, but there still a lot to discover that may allow to over come them

Dude, Rocket Knight and Deathspank, as good as they can be, they have nothing, NOTHING on Flower. And I bought a lot of PSN games.

This level is amazing, I just couldn't believe it the first time I saw it, and it is still the case. And for that matter, I want an Everyday Shooter remake. That game deserves a comeback.

Ha, I found out how that guy did the Flower thing.
Well at least I think I know.
The Level is done on a sequencer with an "illusionist twist".
The Ground is simply a multilayer object that is emitted multiple times added with a layer mover. (The Logic that can move things between layers)
And the flower & the wind youre controlling is actually just moving across a birdseye view screen to give it the Flower effect.

Uhhh Did I get it? Did I do Good?

Can I have a cookie? :3

This is no Flower (lol) but I just started messing with a simple animation test with holograms and stickers like that Zelda level before. Adding frames in between should be easy enough though to make the motions look smoother.

Eh... you might be talking about the animation, right? If that's the case, I only used a few frames just to see if I can pull off what I wanted to do. I'll be adding in more frames later on.

No. I use sequencers with battery outputs connected to the frames. For the Gundam to Bird mode and back transition, I just have the sequencer set to forwards/backwards using a toggle. I can see the selector being more accurate in regards to setting frames to have specific lengths moreso than the sequencer, but I can live with the sequencer for now. Maybe when I get more involved, then I might use rtm's technique. This is definitely one time I wish the cow glitch was still available since any other material would look better than holograms.

As for how long it took for the animations, less than half a day minus everything else in regards to the movement and functions. The longest part was properly making the frames with the stickering.

Rtm's technique is mainly for if you want to achieve true 30fps, so no need to use it.

Well, that's the plan but I never have enough time recently to really devote to going full steam with these ideas. I did have lots of fun working on it though, so hopefully I can go full steam with it sometime soon. I wonder if the top-down mecha shooter you're talking about was my Armorboy Beta one.

Will do. Now that I think about it, I wonder if the secondary animation speed still applies when its set to "off." I'll have to check when I get back home, but if that's the case, then maybe I won't have to.

If you take a look at the animations, they do happen to be brighter than normal at times when set to on, which is why I think the animation speed is still occurring somewhere (and I'm thinking it's happening when it's "off").

You know, where all you guys here, those fanboys at NG4, Sony, the UK and everyone else involved in this supposed "LBP2" all conspire to make me believe a thing like LBP2 not only could exist, but that it does and it is almost here. Something that truly is as open as the artistic creativity and weird tinkering engineering put into to it. Not limitless, but surprisingly near. Really, for 60 bucks? If you take a look at the animations, they do happen to be brighter than normal at times when set to on, which is why I think the animation speed is still occurring somewhere (and I'm thinking it's happening when it's "off").

I was wondering if it auto-pulses when emitted regardless of being on or off? Or does it pulse when one (just, or both) animations are set on?

I was right. I needed to set the animation to 0% for the hologram's off state. Thanks for helping me figure it out eventually guys! Mission accomplished, lol.

I don't know about RTM's method but these just work by turning on and off different shaped hologram material in a specific order? Possible using the sequencer? Well that's how I would do it!

The simplest way to do it is by using a sequencers with batteries in them connected to the frames of animation. rtm's method is based specifically on attempting to get a solid 30fps, which these animations, including my own, don't really need. All in all, the hardest and most time consuming part would be creating the frames themselves. And that vid is very impressive. I can only imagine how long it took them to do all of that.

Oh, thanks guys, I think I got it.

So, basically you superimpose several holographic shapes, but only one at a time appears? (I didn't even know we could tweak a holographic shape and connect it to a switch. I've mainly messed around with Sackbots, which don't seem to be the most interesting tool after all!)

What are you talking about? with looped timer you can get controllable 10 fps animation out of selector and also you can select single frames in faster speed. Selector based animation was first method used as i know. Keep in mind that sprites in 8bit era hardly had 10fps sometimes

His method does not use timers; It uses the current input directly into the next input, and so on; this means it goes as fast as the game can handle; aka roughly 30fps.

An easier method than the OR gate is to use a counter with the amount set to 1. This is easier in case you accidently activate it during create mode as it is easier to reset.

Add an input in the reset of the counter, and you have a set/reset!

Actually, that might be right. The fastest pulse rate you can do on a single wire (in either LBP) is 15Hz, but by exploiting multiple outputs, you might be able to get the full 30fps framerate, which, as far as we can tell, is the speed of the simulation engine.

That's actually classified as rubber! Believe it or not... I forgot what it's called exactly. I think there are other materials that people ripped with the god glitch that I haven't managed to acquire yet, I'll look into it.

Also, if anyone's is interested, I just published a little minigame called "Destroyer Of Blocks". I need to ramp up the difficulty because it is too easy to get all the blocks, but it is a cool concept. It's my own unique take on the "Super Block Drop" minigame.

Hot diggity dog that impressive donkey show!!!

To tell you the truth, I dont have the betaz :n( but i do see two things that you might want to add/change just from the video.

1. Impact sound. Make it so that when you hit someone with the sword, theres an impact sound. If there was one already, make it louder and add a little "umph" to it if you know what i mean.

2. Allow people to pick up coins with the sword. As you probably experienced when playing it (I know i saw it) picking them up while just running over them was inconsistent at best. So just allow players to pick them up if you swing your sword over it.

Anyways, great work!! Love your LBP levels, and I am excited for what you have up your sleeve for LBP2!

Thanks man! I love making mega beasts like that. It's been awhile since I've done so as well. Although, I do need to tweak the level a little so that players can actually reach that point, lol. And I'll definitely queue up your level. Looks like a good solid time. ^^

BTW, did you accept my friend request way back when?

I'd love to play Craft Earth Crusaders but, I always get the "Fail to Load" message. I'm quering it to play when ever that patch is released.

Yes I accepted the request a couple of days ago - I kind of forgot about it when I started losing myself in tweaking the Sackbot controls.

Before you wander in to my level keep in mind that it's still kind of concept only. In other words, low on instructions, high on bugs. But it's playable. After all, once the bugs have been ironed out and the controls tweaked, cranking out content is pretty easy. Now in addition to getting rid of said bugs I should work on creating more enemy types and working in proper scoring, pickups & a checkpoint system.

EDIT: Oh and most important, level entry animation so that the sackbot "beams" into the level, much like his mentor.

Lous that looks freakin awesome!!! If only I could play it I'm making a lvl right now called rUins. It's coming along great, and I have some unique gameplay ideas (I haven't seen them anywhere yet ) I know it's so over used, but jungles/forests, and caves are my forte. I'm going to pull through with this lvl and finish it!!!!

Donkey, as always your lvl was great except to me it felt like the boss dragged on a little too long. It was awesome. Not that I've actually played it. I just watched your video.

It's all good. I initially like making my bosses battles of attrition in the sense of "how long can you last?" But that's just for me really, lol. I eventually tone it down after getting feedback and am planning on doing so as with the rest of the level since I think only one person that's played it has got to the boss so far according to the scores on lbp.me.

donkey's level uses the layer glitch so yeah, there are more layers than the normally allowed three. A lot of levels seem to be using that glitch. MM could just as well make it an official feature.2010-10-19 21:27:00

Yeah, I've had no luck taking care of those patches, even with smaller "lava" segments. It seems the engine still has problems with either tremendously large or several multiple stickers of the same type near each other. As for the boss, it uses layers into the 4th front thick glitch layer. And yes, everything from the floor down is glitched as well.

Nah - resume game would work solely on a code which you'd enter. I'll post a vid up later of the menu if you like!

Edit: This is the Resume Menu. Notice that the X, O, Triangle and Square buttons are used to enter the password. Oh, and if you have the Beta, feel free to use that code - it leads to an unfinished section of the game. The 10 points that are given when the code is entered allows me to put two chapters in one level - and depending on which code you enter, you will go to a different chapter.

So what is the trick to doing that? Is it a benefit of the advanced glue? Trying to wrap my head around how it can be part of the game space in glitch space at the same time.

Given the multiple characters on screen, the inter-planar motion, and the complexity of it all, it may be fairly difficult. Now, i have no doubt in my mind that it is doable, but it is something that would take some time and thought process.

Gevurah22 already made a level with lock on, well i think it was his lol, i watched a vid on youtube with a mech that looked like one of his and it could lock on to enemies and shoot homing rockets or something like that.

I'd be more apt to use it for a boomerang type weapon. If anything, I'd want to make the directions a little more precise for the turning of the mage.

And I'll make sure to add a crosshair to the mage. I'll be adding s'more stuff tonight and hopefully one more class to the mix. Dunno what it'll be next, but the two classes now will get secondary attacks to complement their arsenal.

Hey that looks pretty awesome. I too am working on a mega man inspired series. i dont have a video yet but if you wanna check out what i have so far, you can look up Mega City Remix demo or @deftmute.

I have a checkpoint system where you can equip the different special powers and a little area to test them out in. i havent started to work on making bosses yet... thats next. too be honest though, it looks like your levels will have mine beat hands down.

I still haven't played that level, since when I was gonna play it with you and Fishrock, my PS3 did a major crash. (That's what I call it when it crashes, then I have to turn it off for 10 minutes to rest, because it is unable to connect to my router for a while.)

Anyway yeah. I'm thinking of getting my DVDR up and running to record videos of the beta on request. (Request by people who don't have the beta. Maybe ask me to make a video showing what the full pop-it looks like, or how the rotators work...)

No, but you get auto-logged-out of beta.lbp.me after either closing your browser, or after 8 hours of inactivity (according to Tom), so they'll show up as broken in many cases.

This won't be an issue after lbp.me goes live tho'.

So after tetris i decided to try other "made in china" toy games hit ^^

Contains 2 controls shames:

Directional - standard d-pad control
Rotational - turn left turn right kind of contol, like in Nokia 3310 version of snake

Whole level shows power of wireless and numeral logic combined ;] what it's interesting in logic of this level is fact that it uses clock ticks like real digital circuitry microcontrollers and such. Work less buggier then my tetris, only issue is control delay in slower modes, but i solve this with responsive mode that extra extra tick when direction change, but then it makes counters works little improbably and tail animation becomes strange

Oh and special thanks for NinjaMicWZ for shaping game over sigh, without him that awesomeness on the end would not exist

Also got 2 other videos on tape including some music ^^ i got time for this one today but tommorow... Pokemon fans will wet there pents

How did you name the instructions at the bottom of the screen?

You can tweak the output buttons of the controllinator to have a name and it'll show up on the bottom when you sit in it.

If you're a fan of Gundam Wing, please check it out! I redid the battle theme music in the sequencer and added in some really quick battle animations to pass the time as the song goes on, basically making it a quick high score mini-game. xD

I don't wanna sound like an egit or anything but did you ever consider attaching the camera to the gundam and have it rotate with it? That way it's always right up but the world would turn? I don't know if it would work better in reality but in my head it seems like a good idea

I've done it and it comes with mixed results. It's either love it or hate it:

Nope they're exactly the same. It really isn't that nuts as you're only shooting in a different direction. Personally, the less you have to think about direction in a level like that, the better.

Level is called Virtual Combat by Tactical_Gunner

I didn't know what to name the song, so he named it "Techno Panic" for me.

Haha, yes indeed it did. It's a very repetitive song actually. But I add a lot of extra sounds to make it sound diverse.
