The Spy Chronicles Part 2: Laboratory Mysterywolverinebball2
After several dangerous encounters in the jungle, you are now inside Dr. Dracus's laboratory. Something suspicious is going on in there, and it's up to you to stop it.

This is the sequel to my original Spy Chronicles level. I went for a complete change of scenery compared to the first one, and therefore changed the gameplay style as well. This level has a few puzzles, but is mainly packed with varied gameplay styles, from jetpack to paintinator to platforming.

I put a lot of thought into elaborating the plot in this level, for the first entry in the series did not have much of a story. In this level, all the elements of Dr. Dracus's evil plan come together, and it gives this short series a sense of conclusion. I may continue on with the series in LBP2, but it is finished as of now.

Enjoy!

Ok I just added some visual improvements to the level, as well as some sound and material changes. Please give me some feedback on the level, I would like to know if there is anything I can improve on. I have definitely made more changes to this level than any of my other ones (except Disneyland 2 maybe) so I am definitely open to suggestions Enjoy!2010-09-21 02:52:00

Excellent level, not much to say. It was beautiful and fun, my only 2 requirements. 5 stars and a heart.2010-09-26 06:35:00

I played this one a few minutes ago and here are my thoughts:

Compared with other great laboratory/industrial levels the visuals are a bit behind, but that's not a big deal, cause the main-thing here is the gameplay and this was indeed very cool! There are a lot of plattforming areas and some cool puzzles. Well, nothing that I've never seen before, but you put it together in a great way. The bump-up-plattforms are cool stuff, the box-emitting room where you have to put the three colores boxes on their plattforms was also nice, I loved the room where you have to shoot at the pop-out plattforms to build your own "bridge" to climp up, very nice section! The boss was cool, but he wasn't a real challenge (you can shoot the lower-paint-switch from the distance without being in real danger). The quality and the plattforming-elements rally improve in the second half and I really like it that way - saving the bast for last! All in all a very good plattforming level with a nice look. :star::star::star::star: it was a close decission against the fifth star and with some more details/stickers this one is easily a 5star level! Keep up the good work! It was a lot of fun to play!

Thanks for the feedback, I will definitely add more environmental stickers such as rust and dirt throughout the level. I may also have parts of the laboratory interact with the player unexpectedly. I may also make the boss a little more challenging, this was something I considered doing from the very start but never really got around to it.2010-09-26 19:24:00

Hey, I had actually played this quite a while ago, just finding it on the highest rated pages. Played it again just now to refresh. You have a very good level that captures a facility look very well. Platforming involved is fun and clean and makes the level a joy to play. Well deserving of its 5-star rating.

(Btw, I assume you just joined LBPC? Since you didn't put these on showcase previously)

It's a very impressive level. Visuals are amazing, everyone fits into plus nothings out of place. Fantastic and fun game play, I liked the paint gun part, I haven't seen that done before... I'm not entirely sure what es to say since there are no faults instead 5 stars tagged brilliant.2010-09-27 14:42:00

Fun level.

The visuals are simple but clean and effective, I liked details like the plants and some platforms jerking when you land on them. There were a few really clever platforming ideas in here. I'm glad to see working bounce pads for once, they usually don't work well.

Overall well enjoyed

For the most part this was a fun and enjoyable level. As others have mentioned the gameplay is pretty much spot on and solidly executed. My only complaint in that regard is at the one part near the begining a bridge collapses and a grabby thing comes down, it seems to happen a little too fast to react to. I played the level twice and both times I died there and it didn't feel like it was my fault. Aside from that I don't have any real thoughts for improvements in the gameplay department.

Visually I think you could make some improvements. I didn't care much for the white stickering on the metal material. It looked sort of bland to me partly due to the material it was on and I don't think white is really a good background color unless you do some things to make it stick out in a way. You could also try adding more mechanical looking stuff into the background like vents, wires, and pipes to add some variety and to go with the laboratory theme. The boxes also seemed a little bare to me. Maybe a logo sticker or some small diagnol corners on them would help. The lethal plants idea was cool though they didn't look very lethal to me except for the gas surrounding them. I tend to stay away from having to much visible gas showing as it doesn't look very nice unless it's used sparingly. All in all the gameplay was solid but you could make some visual improvements.

Loved this level. Well balanced and challenging without tearing out your hair. Visuals were a little plain but consistant and felt comfortable. I love grabby platforming and you did it well. Also a nice balance of gameplay types and a well constructed boss.

5 stars and hearted.

For F4F, any of the levels in my sig. But from your level, I think you will like Badu Island or the Haunted castle best.
