Materials and their Weights
Archive: 6 posts
Time after time, we all think: "How much does this material weigh?" I was wondering about that too, and made a beam scale to find out! Comparing every basic material's weight to the weight of 1 Wood grid square, I came up with this table of weights: Table of Material Weights(the big font means it's something special) Wood = 1 (it is described as the "basic building material" so I'm putting it as a base weight) Metal = 2 Cardboard = 0.1 (VERY LIGHT) Polystyrene = 0.1 Sponge = 0.2 Rubber = 1 Glass = 1 Pink Floaty = 0 (weightless) Peach Floaty= -0.1 Dissolve = 0.15 (*) Stone = 2 Fire = always 1, no matter which material it's made from Electric = electrified material's weight Horrible Gas = weightless unless stuck to something, then it's 0.1 (**) Material Changed Gas = look above Sackboy = 1.1 Thin Materials are 2 times lighter than Medium materials. Fat Materials are 2 times heavier than Medium materials. So, there you have it! Enjoy, and if you find any mistakes feel free to post! Note: (*)When I first measured this, I thought I was crazy, or my scales were broken. The problem was that the scales were not perfectly straight both when I compared the weights of Dissolve and Cardboard, and Dissolve and Sponge. However, when I put off all of the load, the scales were perfectly balanced. So that means I'm crazy!!! LOL No, really, that has really bothered me, and I put two Dissolves on one side and 1 Cardboard and 1 Sponge on the other side, and the scales were perfectly balanced. Some math (2x=0.2+0.1, 2x=0.3, x=0.15) proves that the weight of Dissolve is 0.15 of the weight of Wood. (**)Call me stupid, crazy, mad, lunatic or heretic, but it's true! | 2010-09-18 19:13:00 Author: Aj0j Posts: 15 |
Wow cool! i always wonder what the weights of materials, This will come in handy and yes you are crazy for weighing the materials You will fit in with the rest of us | 2010-09-18 19:17:00 Author: SketchNZ Posts: 1668 |
I had an idea of making a scale to measure materials for months now, but never built it. (too busy) Thanks for this. | 2010-09-23 21:30:00 Author: ConverseFox Posts: 2333 |
Cory, I don't mean this mean, but I kind of find it kind of funny every post about something i either see a post by you claiming it or that you had the idea and never got around to it. Thanks for the scale by the way! | 2010-09-24 23:15:00 Author: Ricky-III Posts: 732 |

Thanks for the scale by the way! Yeah, I guess it seems that way, but I have a ton of ideas flowing through my brain.(And I mean a TON!) | 2010-09-26 05:36:00 Author: ConverseFox Posts: 2333 |
Yeah, I guess it seems that way, but I have a ton of ideas flowing through my brain.(And I mean a TON!) It's true. That's why all of my levels are unoriginal because cory is always thinking of it before I can. Let me tell you, my new level coming soon, cory will already know how it'll be like because he already thought of it before. The crazy part is that I don't know what I'm building yet myself as well. In conclusion, don't underestimate him. XP | 2010-09-26 06:50:00 Author: Spark151 Posts: 801 |
