Some idiot is giving away cracked BETA keys

Archive: 17 posts

(link removed - probably a scam)

Where do I even start? This guy is giving away cracked BETA keys to thousands of people. They won't be able to leave feedback, which misses the entire point of the BETA.

Even if he did get them legally, which he probably didn't, this is an awful thing to do.

Are they trying to hack on to your PS3 or something? I mean the comments in the video all look fake. Theres not one that says something negative.2010-09-18 17:17:00

Guys, don't do this. It doesn't matter how badly you want this, just don't.

If this does work, it's illegal and could get you in some serious trouble. If it isn't, it's likely this guy is giving out viruses or trying to steal your personal information.

According to the comments in that video it requires you to give your phone number and pay, I don't know how true this is (because I wouldn't dare to try this), but it sounds pretty risky.

Also I would take that link out of the OP, it goes against the rules of LBPC, I believe.

I wouldn't bother. If it asks you to do a survey or give your phone number, then it is an obvious plot for the guy to make money. They get money every time someone complete a survey so obviously all you have to do is offer something people want, wait for them to complete the survey, and BAM instant money.

As far as the actual files go, it could be legit (which would be illegal), it could be just random junk, or it could be a virus/spyware and whatnot.

Also, look at all the tags in the video, clearly a way to get peoples attention and make some easy money.

hmmm should I download it? I really want in the beta, Sony never put me in even though I play LBP 500 hours a day. Theres no other way, I have to end it, goodbye cruel world, hello illegal downloading of a crack that is unlikely to even work.2010-09-18 18:48:00

I've seen them pop up about a week ago. The links are completely fake. All of them. One was a bogus "pkg" file (mac?) and another was a broken vid file. hilariously bad.

I reported as much videos I saw. Wish I can just report the user himself. This is spam.

Quote for truth.

I downloaded it out of curiosity, paid the guy (did the survey), did 999-999-9999 as phone number, downloaded it, scanned the file and sure enough, it has a virus. Deleted the file and had my dad to all the smart computer (oh noes, bad word! ) stuffs after that to make sure I my computer wouldn't get sick. d=

PS: I wouldn't have downloaded the beta if it was real. I would like to get invited, not crack a code or share. I downloaded out of pure curiosity.

EDIT: As a reply to cheezy weapon, yes, it is spam. He is making money when people do the surveys. He obviously figured out that lots of people would try it. lol

I'd taken a look, but decided to keep it open until someone brave enough to actually try this out, determined whether it was a scam or not (which seems to be the case). If it weren't then we'd clearly need to make Sony aware of it, but as it is, it's a (possibly borderline) case of fraud in whichever country the perpetrator lives, so somewhat out of our jurisdiction.

Anyways, I think this can be safely locked now, so...

Locked.
