The Simpsons - Should it end?

My answer? No way.

The Simpsons have been going on for years, and over the last few they've been heavily panned by critics. A good episode here and there stitch up the mistakes, but well, they were running out of thread.

Back in the days of Seasons 1-10, The Simpsons were unstoppable. If you look at all the quality episodes, you'll see what the critics are talking about. Even a slighty bad episode back then would have been a good episode during the last few seasons.

A movie was spawned, but wasn't to everyone's liking. I personally enjoyed it, as it was certainly better than what was on the smaller screen at the time.

But then the producers turned it all around. The HD episodes arrived. With a new title sequence, the Simpsons wowed critics again by turning around their mistakes. No, they weren't as good as before but they were back to being entertaining.

So I see people pleading for the Simpsons to stop, but what would this bring? As long as I'm still entertained, I don't give a ****...		2010-09-18 11:57:00

NEVAR. Though I haven't watched it for months. We in sweden doesn't get new episodes they still show us the ones from 2000-2006

Keep the simpsons, but dont let it turn out like pokemon did! It was amazing when It was on season 1-4, but after the ruby/saphire season. It went down in quality by 95%! Its now just a cartoon for preschoolers Although the games are still awesome!

The brand new episodes just got there in France (finally!), and I find them pretty good I've only seen some, but they were good.

I think you said it all in the original post. It's not as good as it was, but it's been a lot worse. I don't watch it religiously like I used to, but it's nice to know it's there when I want it. Like a warm blankie.

I'm not sure some of the new episodes are entertaining...and some of them are terrible... The thing I hate about these discussions are that you will never know it finished at the right time if it did.

I don't think the Simpsons should stop. I barely watch TV these days but I'll maybe watch The Simpsons once a week. I've seen them all anyway.

Despite what many people consider it I see the The Simpsons as quite an intelligent show. Not only does it do a great job of capturing society's fears, problems, politics, major events, stereotypes etc but it does it on a number of different levels. It's one rare shows where there will be parts that a 10 yr old will find funny and other parts that a 60yr old will find funny in the same episode.

So even though a child might see the same episodes over and over again, they're almost like new ones because the child has become older and will see the humour in different things to what they found funny the last time they watched.

hopefully that all made sense and if it didn't forgive me, it's 2:00AM atm

But isn't that what they're doing, turning the whole thing around? The HD episodes are anything but stale to me, sure some aren't that funny but when they still entertain, why end it?

Over the years I think Family Guy, American Dad, South Park etc had been winning, but I find that the tables have been turned on them. That, or I've grown out of liking "stupid funny"... 		2010-09-18 19:13:00

I used to LOVE The Simpsons.
I had a Simpsons Collection.
It used to be the reason to watch TV.

But now, it has stooped to the level of Family Guy, with fart jokes and random cutscenes.

I want simpsons to continue, at least until they are out of material (I believe they can keep up for quite some more time) and the charm and humour in it is what I love.


Family Guy > Simpsons. The Simpsons is ok though...

Meh, I find Family guy heartless on many an occasion. A big deal of funny elements, but sometimes it's just cruel. Not saying Simpsons is though, like the episode where the earth is going down and smart people are going to fly to Mars for a safer place and they end up popping their heads in space. Though they have a bigger tendency to end well.

Simpsons is heartwarming. It might be sarcastic and rude sometimes, but Simpsons is much, much more... realistic. They are a proper family, they have feelings. Family Guy doesn't have that warmth. You can settle down with a Simpsons episode.

Cleveland show = Crappy copy of Family Guy = Way better copy of the Simpsons = funny copy of the Jetsons = equal copy of the Flintstones = so on...


In short, COME ON think of somethin original for once people!
Its the same show over and over and over...

Its turning ito a Johnny Knoxville (Yes misspelled most likely) kinda deal, all he has is the same show oveer and over.
Jackas = Wild Boys = Viva la Bam, all just a bunch of shows about people doing random stunts...
Nitro Circus was a bit of a change as they had some pros, but still the same basic, people ding stunts to end up hurt...
Got too many examples than I feel like explaining, CSI series anywone?
Even in movies, you can notice a pattern on how when a movie releases about 2 more similar ones release in short intervals.

Oh and don't get me started on those parody movies like Vapires suck and those other like it, that trend's just... ugh now.

Ah yes the Simpsons!
Anywho, its mostly using cliche's and predictable humor mostly now, its still "ok" as a last resort when there's nothing to watch, but other than that, I think I'd skip it.
I DO admit, there are still some pretty good episodes every now and then, but just like family guy now, its just too cliche and predictable, or they try to force the jokes and humor too much mostly.

So I say, let it die while its still a half decent, watchable show, so it can be remembered like the good show it was.

Like Futurama!
That one edviates from the disfunctional family, was/ is really funny/ entertaining, and had a good run, and ended while it was still good, people remember it by that and still like to watch re-runs.
They even brought it back from a rather long break due to popular deman(even tho it was supposed end) and now its still good again!

So let it end, at least for a while, give them time to think of half-decent jokes at least, and bring it back if the people DO want more instead of forcing it down by keeping it alive and miserable.

Why is everyone saying "stop before it's too late" and "Family guy is 'Stupid Funny' (but the Simpsons isn't)" ???

a) It is too late, it's absolutely terrible now
b) The Simpsons recently has been based around 'Stupid Funny', with Homer acting literally mentally ill, and the most ridiculous plots....

They ran out of ideas years ago...

As for the Simpsons, I actually never watch it because I don't have any channels that show it anymore :o (Therefore I have no idea how it's been going recently with new episodes. I've seen it a few times, but I don't recall ever thinking the humor was funny)
