A journey through peaceful islands, mysterious caves, and who knows what else!
Well guys, here's the new level I've been working on! This level is a bit different from Blue Blitz, where I tried to create a more realistic land than another abstract concept. In addition, the focus isn't on bubbles as much, but I still think there's room for competition on the scoreboard.

In the last day or so of building, I encountered SERIOUS lag, both in create, and in playthrough. This is very odd, because the level isn't even full thermo, and it's far less complicated than, say, Destiny 2 - which doesn't lag at all. I'm hoping this is just a problem for me, caused by lack of space in memory. If not, and the level lags for you, let me know. I'll try to make a lag-free version.

Well, I hope you enjoy!

This Level's F4F
I am NOT writing huge feedback for those who come in and just give me a few sentences. The general rule is you give what you get. Chances are I'll write huge feedback for your levels anyways, but I'm just making sure I'm not held to it - it seems kind of unfair to write that much for one or two sentences. F4F to the first 10 to leave feedback.

UPDATE 10/2/10: Taffey was kind enough to provide screenshots of the level! Thanks Taffey!

Ok! Here's my feedback! For those who have not played the game, please do not open that spoiler because it may ruin your gaming experience!

Name: Windmill Isles - Name made me start thinking of Sonic Adventure [8.9]
Opening/Ending: Entry to the level was a "play itself" section. It seemed to emulated Velcro's Timber Canyon 1 and 2. Ending however, very little scenery at the end which lost the brilliant graphics you had demonstrated within the rest of the game. The house looked a little "rushed" [6.8]
Story: N/a
Graphics: Loved the windmills, scenery was well presented and a good use of complementing materials made me marvel at the level. [8.7]
Gameplay: Felt a bit like a VelcroJonze level, however, you did demonstrate some original ideas including the construction of the windmills and the puzzle where you fitted the cubes into place. I enjoyed the race, but I felt I failed it a bit. [8.8]
Scoring: You demonstated an array of score giving techniques. Switch triggered emmitors, hidden rooms, a race and bubble combos. I feel I discovered all the score bubbles, and I found the foney grass emmitor as well. Seems I am too used to Velcro's levels. One downfall though, at the entrance, I missed quite a few bubbles at the "play itself" part. [9.3]
Friendly advice: I felt it was a brilliant level, but it seemed to be a little bit like a Velcro Level. If that's the effect you want to achieve, that's fine. Just wanted to point it out.

Overall: Brilliant platforming and scenery. Hopefully there's going to be a sequel to this level. I gave it 4 stars and a heart. Upon reflection, I realise its worth five stars and will change it the next time I play.
[8.8]

F4F: Could you look at either Zombie Apoclaypse Defence (Arcade) or The Sceptre of Egypt please?

Name: Windmill Isles - Name made me start thinking of Sonic Adventure [8.9]

That's really cool - I actually drew a bit of inspiration from some of the classic Sonic stage one looks, grassy and peaceful.

Sadly, it looked rushed because it was. The incredible amounts of lag in create mode made me very nervous, and so I decided to compromise graphics for stability. If deleting extra data turns out to fix this for me, I can always republish later with a better house.

Graphics: Loved the windmills, scenery was well presented and a good use of complementing materials made me marvel at the level. [8.7]

Glad you liked the windmills, and the material too! I'm always searching for those perfect materials to use. ;-)

Gameplay: Felt a bit like a VelcroJonze level, however, you did demonstrate some original ideas including the construction of the windmills and the puzzle where you fitted the cubes into place. I enjoyed the race, but I felt I failed it a bit. [8.8]

Sorry you felt like that at the race. I wanted to give a place that was really an uber-pro barrier, to make up for the lack of bubble chains. Don't feel bad - I fall quite a few times myself. ;-)

The entrance is meant to do that - it lets you spawn with exactly 4500 points that way. I'm so reassured that you like the bubbles in the level, I was worried there weren't enough.

Friendly advice: I felt it was a brilliant level, but it seemed to be a little bit like a Velcro Level. If that's the effect you want to achieve, that's fine. Just wanted to point it out.

It is. :-P

Overall: Brilliant platforming and scenery. Hopefully there's going to be a sequel to this level. I gave it 4 stars and a heart. Upon reflection, I realise its worth five stars and will change it the next time I play.

Thanks so much, glad you enjoyed it! :-D

Nice B3 This level is really fun! It Looked very nice And the opening scene with you bouncing at mindless speeds Is Cool! And I found the big secret with the heart in it Very well hidden! Great Windmills and the Wooden cogs I liked the part where you grab the top of the windmill and put it where it goes.

Luls.expecting a bubble emitter?

Nice Cave But i got tired of that big crusher thing when i missed dragging a cube on it and had to wait a long time for it to come back.
I like the part with the big wooden cogs rotating you have to jump on them, Then you go up to the bomb detonation part, It was cool how the camera showed them blowing up one at a time, I got crushed the second time i played somehow on the thing that was supposed to fling your sackboy after the bomb part and i couldent get past after that, Im glad that didn't happen the first time i played maybe you could fix it so its not so fast it crushes sackboy or blocks the path.

But Other than that 1 problem that only happened the second time i played.

i like the whole level 5 Stars and a Heart!

hi there bluebulletbill!

im really happy becouse now i can proudly yell that i've been one of the firsts to play one of you're levels!
and well, i got really surprised when i see sackboy getting out of that brown circle, where sackboys come from, getting out of a cave that has lots of bubbles and i see a green and brown place wich had nothing to do with blue, but since you talk about it in the LBPC description it is understandable...

and now the level itself:
good stuff:
-nice environments, with lots of small details and stuff that make the level look really nice.
-good secret places to win bubbles (and enter the scoreboard, oh yeah third place )
-i found the message saying "lulz, you're expecting a bubble emitter" really funny
-long lenght level that even had a small race and lots of small yet nice platforming
-the simple yet cute clouds in the sky made the level look more like... a place full of windmills
-the last slide part was total fun and i enjoyed it a lot!

not so good stuff:
- my "r" button is kinda damaged, and it gets stuck from time to time, as lots of stuff in the level had to be grabbed, it took me ages to end the level
-the moving wall inside the cave was a little bit frustrating (mostly becouse of my "r" button, that grabbed those boxes and i couldnt get them out of the wall) but nothing to cry about ofc
-i didnt got the point of the house at the end of the level, maybe it is just me, but i didnt know the level had an actual story...

OVERALL
95/100
that obviously means the level got :star::star::star::star::star:

oh, and i dont know if i am one of the first 10 people, but if i am then you can chose if you want to wait until i release my totally secret blue level, or you can gently feedback in my fade to black (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=31648-fade-to-black)level !

Windmill Isles
Score: 8.7/10
By: BlueBulletBill

As you know, I love windmills. And this level really lives up to its name.

Story: N/A/10
No story, just making your way back to home.

Music/SFX Choice: 8/10
Some more SFX would be nice like wind sfx when you walk by a running windmill, but I like the soundtrack you chose.

Appearance: 9.3/10
Very good. The materials blend well and make me happy. Some more stickers would be nice though, but I did notice you're going for a more velcro-style. Corner editing is great. I love it when you shoot up into the floating islands.

Creatures/Objects: 9.8/10
Amazing. I love the windmills. Every other object such as the gears and clouds are very well done.

Gameplay: 7.9/10
Hmmm. I was a little disappointed in this. Little though. I really liked walking around the beautiful environments but there were quite a few problems. At the beginning, a lot of the bubbles weren't even possible to get when you are being shot around. Later, once you put the windmill top on the base you get on a very very very very veryyyyyy slow platform. That would be okay if there was really exciting scenery, but it was just some clouds. When you enter the cave there is a big problem. It took forever to get the boxes to their places with the moving platform. If it went faster it would be too hard, but if it went slower, it would be too slow! Just a design flaw in my opinion. Everything else was okay. But I must say, you did a great job on the bubble combos. My favorite

Overall: 8.7/10 (not an average)
This was a great level let alone some design issues and lag. But it really shows that you can do stuff other than blue! I gave you :star::star::star::star::star: and a <3

F4F: A Bubbly Forest comes out this weekend. That'd be great!

EDIT: I forgot to tell you how much I like that waterfall!

Great Windmills and the Wooden cogs I liked the part where you grab the top of the windmill and put it where it goes.

Glad you liked it! You'll be seeing that heart a lot more soon... I've said too much already.

Luls.expecting a bubble emitter?

It's really great knowing that people are finding it.

I got crushed the second time i played somehow on the thing that was supposed to fling your sackboy after the bomb part and i couldent get past after that, Im glad that didn't happen the first time i played maybe you could fix it so its not so fast it crushes sackboy or blocks the path.

I spent a LOT of time tweaking that launcher. The best I ever got it, it still did that 1 out of four times. Sorry!

But Other than that 1 problem that only happened the second time i played.

i like the whole level 5 Stars and a Heart!

Thanks a ton for playing! Since you haven't released anything lately, I'll hold off on F4F until there's something new. Bone Works soon plox? :-D

-nice environments, with lots of small details and stuff that make the level look really nice.

Thanks! I spent a lot of time on the graphics, so I'm glad to know it wasn't wasted.

-good secret places to win bubbles (and enter the scoreboard, oh yeah third place )

Good job! Like I said, I'm glad to see that bubble placement is not a problem for people, as I was really worried about that.

-long lenght level that even had a small race and lots of small yet nice platforming

I'm glad to hear it felt long enough. After the lag hit, I had to end the level abruptly to keep it intact.

-i didnt got the point of the house at the end of the level, maybe it is just me, but i didnt know the level had an actual story...

Hehe, well, the truth is, it doesn't. I just felt like making my own Windmill house after seeing Jonze's. :-)

I'll go ahead and leave feedback on your new level. Thanks for playing!

As you know, I love windmills. And this level really lives up to its name.

Hehe, I never would have known! It's not like you made a level about one...

Music/SFX Choice: 8/10
Some more SFX would be nice like wind sfx when you walk by a running windmill, but I like the soundtrack you chose.

I know, SFx have been like stickers to me... I know where they are, I just never get there. :-P I'm working on that a bit.

Always good to hear people liked the graphics, but it means a lot coming from you - Bubbly Gardens was a visual feast.

Gameplay: 7.9/10
Hmmm. I was a little disappointed in this. Little though. I really liked walking around the beautiful environments but there were quite a few problems. At the beginning, a lot of the bubbles weren't even possible to get when you are being shot around.

This is intentional, to keep your score at an even 4500.

Later, once you put the windmill top on the base you get on a very very very very veryyyyyy slow platform. That would be okay if there was really exciting scenery, but it was just some clouds.

Sorry about this - though I think it may just be lag. If I republish, I'll speed it up a little.

When you enter the cave there is a big problem. It took forever to get the boxes to their places with the moving platform. If it went faster it would be too hard, but if it went slower, it would be too slow! Just a design flaw in my opinion. Everything else was okay. I'm sorry about that, like you said, that platform became a catch 22. Glad you liked the bubble placements, though!

THANK YOU for mentioning the lag - I'm glad to know it wasn't just me. And 'that you can do stuff other than blue' is great to hear! I think, looking back, that's what this level will be about; not being a great level, but helping me grow as a creator. Thank you so much for checking it out!

F4F: A Bubbly Forest comes out this weekend. That'd be great!

Btw if it's okay can I put this in my review thread?[/FONT]

I know - can't wait to play it! And of course! Though my review thread will crush yours beneath its feet It's always good to get some friendly competition. ;-)

Great job on this B3! I plan on ripping off your obstacle ideas ok? Anyways, I got the lag and it affected the gameplay quite a bit, in that it made jumps hard and slow things slower. As for the gameplay, I think it was good, but not. great. Personnally, I think Blue Blitz had better platforming and more originality. One thing that I found really cool was the "death logic" for the pillar part, because it was something I had never seen before. Good job, 5 stars and a heart!2010-09-18 16:04:00

Wow!? It's already dead here!?
So the guy who gives feedback to more people than me isn't getting the attention he deserves? B3, I thought your thread would be active, but it died out two days ago. I'm sorry to see that, but that's not what I'm here for. I still have to make up feedback for you because you are one of my favorite creator's. Hopefully my post will bring some attention and bump this thread giving you more replies. B3, keep up your awesome creating skills going. Now let's move onto your feedback. <----- *Howz I DiD Teh SmiLey FacE?*

First off, your level is awesome. No need for any hate replies for you. Besides me hating you. I kid. The intro of your level was a surprise. I was like *0_o???* Though, you always seem to miss some of the score bubbles. It looks like you spent enough time corner editing here and there. First puzzle was pretty basic, yet the colors fit well. The windmeels look attractive. The clouds were very smooth and not rigid at all. I found a secret area with a heart too. Nice! I like the wood detail. It looks supportive and gives a "mine" like vibe. I laughed out loud at grabbing the green sponge. I was expecting points, but hearing that fart sound made me laugh. After reading the message, I laughed more. XD

The inside of the cave looked awesome. The materials used were BEYOND different. It was the coolest match of unique a theme. It just looked very impressing and quite vivid. One of the your puzzles in the cave were a bit time consuming. There were a lot of bubbles to collect, and many hidden. Being outside looked different. It gave a feeling of the land floating in the air of coarse. You got a lot done since I last played what you had. Now topping off the level was an magnificent touch. Very cool and well played level. No errors occured during my gameplay. Now let's give you my rating.

Length: 5/5 (The level lasted long and a very fun playthrough.)
Material Usage: 5/5 (My favorite part was the cave, the materials were unique.)
Sticker Work: N/A (Pshh, who needs 'em? XP)
Corner Editing: 5/5 (You have improved a lot. You are no rip off of VJ; your just as well unique too.)
Terrain/Mechanics: 5/5 Your obstacles are friggin awesome. Period.)
Story: N/A (Pshhh, it's a platformer level.)

Total: 20/20 Perfect!!

Good Job. Very fun to play and retrieve a highscore.
With that said, 5 stars :star::star::star::star::star: and a heart. <3

Can't wait to meet again B3,

Hey Bill!!

Wonderful level you made. The looks, the gameplay, you have truly honed your skills and made a platforming level that is one of the best. I know a few months ago you stated you really liked my style, well I think you might have surpassed me. I honestly believe that. Example: I used to read the comic book Spawn. The guy who created it and drew it was Todd McFarlane. I thought he was the greatest artist in the business. One day this other guy comes in, and starts drawing the comic. His name was Greg Capullo. At first I hated it. It wasn't Todd. But after a couple issues I realized that this new guy was not only just as good with McFarlane's style, but even better. That is a crazy analogy, but that's the way I look at mine and your creating styles. You took my style, ran with, and improved on it. Oh, and I am completely fine with that. I never look at fellow creators as rivals or competitors. If anything, I am rewarded with new and awesome levels almost everyday. People have told me that B3 is a VJ clone, and that makes me happy, not angry. I am humbled by the fact that people would like my style enough to want to do something with it.

Now, back to your level. Pure awesomeness bro. The opening is epic!! That is a killer way to start a level. I like your catapulting mechanisms. You are very creative in implementing them in unique and fun ways. The windmills were gorgeous. The part where you have to use the jet-pack to get the one working was great. At first I was like, oh no. A jet-pack. I hate jet-pack segments. But this was quick and cool. The secret area in the first part with the lurve sticker was so cool. It looked great to. Your materials in this level were perfect. I loved them. The box puzzle was very well done too. I have read that a few people think its too slow, but I liked it the way it is. It does take a minute to get through the section but it's never dull. I noticed you took the sticker switch out of the one area and added some bubbles instead. I like the bubbles because it takes an almost perfect run to grab them all and jump down before being gassed. You give the player a choice there. Go for the extra points and take a chance of death and losing more points, or just ignore them and keep your score intact. I like giving the player moments like that too. The race was great with lots of platforming goodness along the way. And the zip wire might be my favorite of all time. That section flowed so nicely.

Great job on an amazing level!!

Five stars and a heart. <3

-VJ

Edit - What lag? Never noticed it.

Way to go on another spotlight Bill!!

I knew this would get spotlighted when you let me play the unfinished version.

Your best level yet, and you have made some great levels.

Hey, finally got some time on the PSP, and since you were one of the first to give my level feedback, I figure I owed you a little.

This level was definitely the favorite of the bunch I just picked up on my last trip to the community moon. The main attraction seemed to be the windmills/aesthetics, and they definitely did not disappoint (well, to be a little critical, the house at the end was definitely rushed. Looks like someone wanted to publish their level as fast as possible).

The game play was solid; everything from the simple switch-play in the beginning to the giant glass zipline-like felt well-made and enjoyable. The pacing was very good; a nice mix of fast paced transition sections and straightforward puzzles/platforming that kept the level moving and the visuals fresh.

I also liked the sense of openness in the level, that really helped with the windmill/island theme; it didn't feel like you were trying to cram to much stuff into each section, but enough to keep it interesting.

Can't wait to play more of your levels in the future.
