What file format do animated avatars take?

I was just wondering, as the question states, what file format do animated avatars take?

Yup.. animated gif's What is cool is each frame can have a different timing, so unlike a movie you can simply increase the time of one frame if it is to be seen a bit longer than others.2010-09-17 17:19:00

I use Adobe Photoshop =) (CS5, but CS4 works, and maybe CS3)

If you have an older photoshop, you just combine it with Adobe Image Ready

I used photoshop to create an animated avatar, but it saved as a .mp4.

Can you set photoshop to save animation files as .GIF's ?

when it asks for the name type:
*enternamehere*.gif and it should work

The only way I know how to make gifs is with Gimp...which is indeed free if you want to try it. I haven't figured it out yet. You have to download a separate package to make animated stuff. (GAP - Gimp Animation Package)2010-09-18 04:39:00

I think it's pretty obvious that the answer is gif. APNGs aren't supported by all browsers and are much bigger files.2010-09-18 04:44:00
