Help with create mode

Archive: 15 posts

Earlier today, I was fooling around in create mode, trying to make a dragon. I had the tail formed with individual sections, but no matter what I did, I couldn't get the tail to bend forward and back well.

The tail looked like this: /-
---------------------- / -
------------------- --/

Kinda. I wanted to make it extend to it's full length alng the ground so that the player could run up it back, and then fold back up to the original position. How would I manage this? I was trying elastic and winches.

use wobble bolts and then just set them to as far as you want each section to "wobble" and you should be fine2008-10-26 01:35:00

That thought occured to me, but wouldn't I need to make each part on different layers so the bolt would go through? That would make going up the tail dificult.2008-10-26 01:49:00

Use each section of the tail as normal, but also use thin pieces of some material, either in front or behind the tail, one piece bridging the gap between each tail piece. You can connect the wobble bolt through the tail piece into the thin piece, so it would work that way.2008-10-26 02:08:00

If you want to use more than one layer this would work.

I suggest rounding out the corners of the links. You can squeeze them closer together if you do. If you chose a more complicated shape for the sections you could use pistons to make the tail move. You'd just have to make sure each section had a good angle for the piston to push on.

Thanks for the replies, I tried bolting them together. Sadly, I couldn't get the tail to stay in place before straightening out. I've decided on a different sort of tail though. I have a new question though. I want the dragon to rear up when you reach a certain area. I tried this using a wobble bolt, and it worked fine, but he would go down again, then back up, etc. How could I make him go up and stay up until you reach a certain point?2008-10-27 04:45:00

You could use pistons to make the tail move and then hook up a sackboy sensor to turn them on. This way the tail wouldn't move until you get up a certain point.

That's not really what I meant. I wanted to make the whole dragon rear on his back legs. I'm not so sure that can be achieved with pistons, though I guess maybe it could.2008-10-27 14:17:00

I think that may be the best way to do it. Before the beta ended, I had a monsterous walking landmover. I used mostly pistons to get the hard work done and winches to do some of the lesser movements. It worked pretty well. Just keep experimenting and you'll have something pretty cool. You may need to go through a few evolutions though. Take your time.

Alright, thanks for helping. I actually scrapped that dragon too though, I just didn't like the basic shape of it. I've started over again, and I think I'm on theright track now. Got the head done, and I think it's pretty good tbh. And, I've got plans to incorporate it into a level.2008-10-28 14:57:00

I agree. The original author has moved on to far greater things than this. Please stop reviving old threads.
