My Mech collection --Updated-- *Stomper V2 published, instructions on last post!!

I was thinking if i should or i shouldn't, but oh well, ill post it anyway, here are some of the mechs ive done since i found how to make one:

Stomper V2

Why V2 you may ask, well, my small bro made a really cool mech which design i really liked, even if it lacked some things, i made my own from scratch taking 1 full day for the overall design, calibration and logic, the end result was stunning.

Stats:
4 weapons:
- 8S-QRMB (8 Silos - Quick Reload Missile Battery)
- DCL (Drone Cycle Launcher: its a small bike that throws bombs and is deployed on a side of the mech)
- ST-L (Standard Type Laser)
- T-HRC Mk1 (Twin Heavy Repeating Cannons Mark I: this are located under the head, and are the main weapon, they get rid of almost everything on their range)

Well, this one is too big and has so many stickers that the game cant load all of them, so that's why some panels are on the default MGS greenish metal color, actually if you have seen my HAGAD T02 you may have notice that it has 1 antimatter engine (the hexagon with plasma inside) and that the OREM has 3 to power its massive size.

The doomsday weapon, the OS-SOTB, a GPS controlled Space station that shoots a tactical beam into the battlefield, the OREM is big enough to carry a real time sync device to move the beam on its sight. (the logic for this one was almost no problem, i would say that its even very simple, the cool thing is that you can actually move the beam from inside the mech, obviously the mech walking locks and the beam doesn't touch him, I got inspired by the prophet of regret beam in halo wars to make this one).

Size comparison

To be honest, the legs dont have much of animation, they use 3 cylinders in a row between legs very well hiden to move them as this is a waay easier form to make them, dont need support stuff (like floaty material or a rail and pistons on top which for me just ruins it and makes it fake and look like a puppet or a sideshow), and can go reverse and forward. (btw this doesnt mean i dont have mechs with well animated walking cycles)

Wow, those are some huge mechs! It's a shame that LBP doesn't really give justice to mechs of that scale unless you can be in Create mode and zoom out all the way.

They look pretty cool though.

I don't think you get how seriously complex sehven's mech is.

Just because these are big doesn't mean they are advanced,...

And by advanced I mean realistic walking techniques, proper stabilization techniques, etc.


Though these are impressive, that does not mean they are 'the most advanced'.

I never said my mechs are "advnced" i put more time into design and weapon systems, if anyone took the time to read the last part of my post thread you would know:

, and about published, neh, i dont have published most of them because i dont feel like it or are to complex for the average lbp player, however, i will post some pictures of my other mechs sometime soon, and for advanced walking, well i have my 3rd generation mech, it has 3 movable parts for each leg, can go forward and backwards and stand by when not moving (legs get aligned), and doesn't use out of view stuff apart from logic, its 100 percent independent, it doesn't need floaty stuff on top or a rail and pistons (took me 1 and half day of full work and struggling with logic, and is still in the prototype phase). Thanks for the comments and interest tho! really appreciate it.

@Fishrock123 yep as you say most of my mechs walking cycles are really simple and i cant compare myself to sehven, but i rather say that i prefer to sacrifice complexity for functionality and heavily on design and weapons, still my mechs dont use hidden stuff to help them walk (no offense looks awesome, put i prefer to make my mechs more independent).

@Soulriver, i have both types, complex and cylinder walking mechs i prefer the cylinders because its easier to use and looks pretty good, actually the cylinder system is so good that i can make some small mechs very easy to program, and the published mechs, are just a very small portion, i could put all of them in one level if i could, but the OREM eats 70% of thermo and the Stomper V2 takes 80%, so no way they can be at the same time.

I was just trying to be funny and plug my mech (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=27374-Most-Advanced-Bipedal-Mech-in-LBP-VT-5-Lightning) again, not start a flame war. It'd probably be best if we stick to discussing Ragnarok's mechs in this thread. Thanks for the compliment though, Fishrock. Oh and you forgot to mention my mech's control scheme .... err.. back to Ragnarok's now.

Yeah, I get that. I was constantly struggling to find the balance between "can jump and walk up/down hills without falling" and "looks like it's actually walking under its own power." In the end, for me, it was a trade off. Mostly I think my walk cycle looks good, but, especially when it starts to tip and gets balanced, it can look a bit unrealistic at times. Just think, though, in Lbp2, we'll be able to make mechs with better controls and better balance that can walk under their own power just fine. When that happens, my mechs won't be anything special so I guess I'll have to move on to *gasp* actually making levels.

I like your mechs from what I see in the pictures, though, as Gilgamesh said, it's tough to do justice to things that big in play mode--not sure how much further if at all Lbp2's cameras can zoom out, but maybe it'll be enough to see and appreciate bigger creations like these. Then again, it might make an interesting level to have a huge mech ravaging a city/base/whatever, and have to fight your way up to it, climb it, break inside and then once you're in there, it's almost like a small fortress in itself and you have to fight your way through to the controls or whatever.

Well, thanks alot for all the nice comments, really lbpc community is grrreat! and just for you as the lbpc community is so good, i will try to get the Stomper V2 on a level so you can check it out (I would like to make it like a private try out as the mech is not really done for "community" it would be like giving a fighter jet to someone who has never got to fly, not that the mech is that complex put i prefer it that way) the stomper V2 is actually on a Test level, i used the city templates and made em of polystyrene material so it can be destroyed by the mech same with the other mech, Im thinking on doing a password door and placing the code here for you to check it out, probably tomorrow if I dont get to busy, I might aswell get more pics tomorrow.

yes he "was", johnee left his levels un-attended and sehven got its place for the mech part (and even if johnee's mantis mech was pretty cool i didn't liked the way it jumped, it was too fakeish and slow in the way it falls, and sehven got time to improve its design, so my advice is never get asleep too long because someone might take your place), anyways its only a matter of self opinion.2010-09-18 21:20:00

I never really considered my mech to be competing with Johnee's: really it's not meant to compete with anybody but I suppose with a title like "Most Advanced blah blah blah," I guess I kinda' am (the title was meant to be provocative so more people would play it--seems to have worked). Johnee's was cooler looking but it was more of a part of the level than an actual vehicle. You didn't drive it so much as you turned it on and let it go. It served its purpose well and looked awesome doing it (floaty jump notwithstanding), but my intention was always to make a playable vehicle, hence the bi-directional control and jumping.

Of course I say I'm not competing and then you look further up the page at where I got defensive 'cuz somebody called another mech more advanced, so I guess that makes me a hypocrite. If Asmadon were still around, I would be in trouble. As far as I know, he's the first one to invent the peach floaty tilt sensor and use it for a mech stabilizer. To this day I still can't replicate his prototype walker (I can never seem to work out the angles and timings of the wobble bolts so I use pistons instead). He was always planning on making a mech that could do everything mine could (albeit better) and have variable walking speeds.

I'm far more interested in the mechs you've added in your update than the original two. It would be cool to play with them all in a published level, thermo permitting. <3

I agree with this design philosophy.

If you have to use hidden materials, rails, rockets, etc, so your bipedal mech can walk then you've failed to actually address the problems of bipedal locomotion. I don't know about you but I don't emit rockets when I'm about to fall over.

On this test you will be able to use all the stomper V2 weapons:
-Twin repeating electron cannons
-8S-QRMB (missiles)
-The mouth mass driver laser
-Drone cycle launcher

i added brief instructions on how to drive it

-BE ADVISED-
This is only a test of a prototype, the mech can fall down if you press the front and back sponges too quickly like crazy, DON'T drive into debris from the polystyrene city or the mech may fall down (this is not a mech meant to adapt to the player, the player must adapt to its controls). If the mech weapons don't shoot anymore it means you are lucky and the level overheated, to temporarily solve this, just get your sticker pop-it and delete the dust stickers to loose thermo (use triangle is faster)

And that's exactly why i don't publish most of my inventions, I just make them to pass the time and play with them with my bro, or make mech fights with other friends!! (I actually fought one of celteen's friends ray with my MG Rex in online create, it was AWESOME!, until the guy used his pop it to lift its mech and knock me down -_-), its not actually the request it self but the kids who expect that you HAVE the obligation to give them your stuff and advice!!.
