PS3 Broke...Again.

Archive: 15 posts

My PS3 has officially gotten the YLOD or Blinking Red Lights of Death or whatever you want to call it for a second time. I really don't want to pay another 150 dollars to get it fixed. Can anyone tell me how to fix it myself and how to keep it working?

Mine has the Red Light of Death right now as well. I sent it in to Gophermods which is supposedly a good place to send it, but I'm not so sure. They received it 5 days ago and they are not responding to my email. They charge about half the price that Sony does and they actually send back YOUR system with the HDD content intact.

Just out of curiosity, which PS3 do you have and how old is it?

It's an 80 gig fat one. I'm assuming that it might be older because I got it from sony two years ago, when I sent in my first ps3, and I'm assuming that they just sent me someone else's fixed PS3.

Hmmm..... Important question regarding if your PS3 burns out: does the fat PS3's HDD work on the slim? Thanks!

I wonder how long my generation (last VR 80 gig) one will last lol. I use it alot...

I actually think it's fixed. I think the vents might have been congested with too much dust, actually. My dad got some kind of duster cleaning product thing and we used it on our PS3 and it has been working. NVM LAWL. It didn't turn off on me last time anyway, and I was able to back up my LBP data, so I don't really care if it's broken as long as I salvaged my LBP. <32010-09-16 21:13:00

Wow, some 80gb ps3 are breaking down now? i wonder whats the life ratio for the 80gb models (the 60gb launch models are almost extinct now i guess), i ask because i have a MGS4 bundle 80gb ps3 backwards compatible with ps2 games and wouldn't like to loose it, why is the ps3 guaranty so limited? i don't try to go against the ps3 or anything, its a great system, but why 1 year?2010-09-16 21:27:00

@Awsomemans! I didn't realize you had PS3 problems. You dropped off tonight and I just thought you couldn't get back online. Hope you get things going again. I'm also glad you got your backup. Hopefully we can play again.2010-09-17 02:25:00

Actually, that was because of a storm, not because of my PS3.

Yeah guys, I think it's fixed. I think the vents were just congested with dust.

Mods, you can close/delete/ do whatever you want with this.

I sure am glad I didn't send it to Sony, though.

I have the fat 60 gig and man it looks like its about to give any minute now. The graphics are so messed up on it even the XMB menu is faded pink and transparent. Really glitchy and always freezes when you access the XMB. Hope it can last until the holidays.2010-09-17 22:17:00

I suggest you make sure the dust in your PS3 has not solidified. O_o
