F-Zero Race Level.

Archive: 16 posts

I'm big sucker for Nintendo games. Mario, Zelda, Starfox and many big names.
But there exist forgotten gem what hasn't got much attention these days.
F-Zero series.

Back then, I loved playing F-Zero X on Nitendo 64. It had fast action, good difficulty and blasting music.
These days, there hasn't been new F-Zero title for while. Last time I've seen about it was in Super Smash Bros. Brawl where Captain "Falcon Punch" Falcon appears as playable character.

So, My plan is to bring back memories in one LBP2 kart race level.
Vehicle models would be Captain Falcon's Blue Falcon, Samurai Goroh's Fire Stingray, Dr. Stewart's Golden Fox and Pico's Wild Goose.

I bet this is possible to create, but It'll take while to get real F-Zero theme.
Anyone interested about F-Zero Race Level in LBP2?

UPDATE
Background design I'm planning should look like this.

Picture is from F-Zero GX.

Oh my god YES! I loved F-Zero X on N64. My second favourite game after 007 Golden Eye.
I would always be Beastman with his Hyper Speeder, I remember one time I was going for the best time on rainbow road to beat my brother. I had done the race perfectly right up until the end end when I fell off the side of the track but somehow I flipped upside down underneath the track, in panic I just kept boosting and by some miracle I crossed the finish line upside down underneath the track, and that record still stand to this day.

But that's enough of me reminiscing. An F-Zero X game would work quite well in LBP2 I think. With the Boost refill strips etc. A game like F-Zero X would also allow for great detail to be put into, not only, scenery but everything really. What I think would really make or break this though would be the music. The original was like playing a game to a non-stop guitar solo, so awesome! If you find you're not great at making music I would highly recommend trying to get someone who is to make the music. It just wouldn't be the same without it.

Good luck with this

Hell yes! F-zero is awesome. Will this be top-down i assume? You should also make black shadow and his car so Captain Falcon can do this:

lol i think the vid is a bit too epic to recreate. back to the idea, i think it would be good if done right. scenery and high speeds are key for the gameplay!! then music of course needs to be at least decent in my opinion but aim for the best2010-09-15 02:29:00

Oh yeah

How would you go about creating the sense of super-duper-awesome speed though?

@kirbyman62

First I would make vehicles go extremely fast.
Not F-Zero GX fast, but F-Zero X fast. ( F-Zero GX max speed = 2000km/h )
Then I would add flashy city background, because first I would love to re-create Mute City.
Finally, Boosters on track. Lots.

@Matimoo

Psst, I happen to own good Captain Falcon costume with my sackboy.
I could recreate that scene in LBP2 thanks to it cutscene creator.
Anyway, If I'm planning to make many vechicles more than 4, I should hope I could create menus in LBP2.
Imagine if I could create every possible vehicle playable in this level.

Top down view? Or normal side view?
I would love you to create F-Zero in LBP2.

@ Rauland

I bet I'll use top down view because I must learn top down view racing.
I tried normal side view in LBP1, but It was long time ago.

Aye', but I'll note you that I'm extremely slow person when it comes to polishing levels.
Couple take week or month after full release of LBP2. :|

It would be nice to see a little bit of perspective for a racer, rather than a completely top-down view. I'm not sure how much the camera can tilt down (I don't think it's much more than in LBP1) but I think that's the way to go. I think though true 3D generated environments are possible, the thermo is going to limit us to doing nothing more than "rotating cube" tech demos and suchlike. Unless you want to use a clever trick like I have to make a 3D scrolling environment but I can't think how it will incorporate twists and turns in the track. Perhaps there is a way...2010-10-07 11:41:00

I dont think he should make crazy tracks like the ones on the 3D F Zero games (i.e space plant and Sector Beta in F Zero X were madness!) He could just focus on the old F Zero SNES style or even from the GBA game F Zero maximum velocity, which are 3D but the tracks are flat.

F Zero SNES was what I was thinking of, haven't actually played any of the others

Top-down view on good angle should do the trick and i believe r-type like racers will be more popular then wheel cars, since it's good excuse to not do drift physic logic 2010-10-08 23:24:00
