First off I want to thank everyone for participating and making this another memorable Halloween here on LBPC! The level submissions were great this year and I had a hard time choosing from all 14 entries. The scoring was really close and only 3 points deciding between first and second place and three points between second and third. Shows the excellent level designer talent we have around here!

I had so much fun playing Halloween themed levels last year (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=17229-Halloween-quot-Spooktacular-quot-Level-Design-Contest)that I've decided to do this again! I think it'll be a fun way to send LBP1 out with a bang too and get us all ready to create even more awesomeness in LBP2! Bring on the cute, scary, pumpkin, bat, fun, zombie, witch, abstract, skeleton, creative levels all based on my favorite holiday - HALLOWEEN!

Anything in the spirit of Halloween is fair game. Creepy or cute, scary or sweet, it's all up to YOU! Just keep in mind the MM rules about content so your level is not moderated.

PRIZES

1st Place
4000 exp & (depending on the cost to ship) a T-shirt (size adult Large) for LBP2 that I got at PAX from the nice folks over at Sony. It's terribly cute, it's brown like sackboy and features a large zipper down the front and the LBP2 logo and Playstation logo on the back. (I'll ship it almost anywhere if the cost is reasonable. Keep that in mind when entering. Also I only have it in Large and can't get you another size. I also won't substitute another prize if the shipping is outrageous or it doesn't fit.... everyone clear?)

RULES:

1. All entries must be posted in this thread and be published as playable to the servers no later than Midnight Central Time (US) on October 30th, 2010 - that way we can play them on Halloween

2. Only one level entry per person/team. (You may put a new level in to replace an older submission but only one will count) I have no problem with collaboration BUT before you do decide to work with another person, it's your responsibility to determine how the exp will be distributed if you win. I don't want any fights or surprises come judgment time and I will not moderate problems that may arise between teammates. (You can handle this and if not you've been warned.)

3. Level can be a survival challenge or a more "traditional" platformer style level and anything in between.

4. No limitation of DLC - If you have it and want to use it - go for it. If you don't have one of the packs you may need to think creatively about how to get what you have to do what you want. Amount of DLC will not affect judging but rather if it's used well it could help.

5. The LBPCentral.com sticker or item (see Takelow's level for item or ConfusedCartman's level for sticker) must appear somewhere in the level. Doesn't have to be huge or in front but I'll need to be able to find it. It's a way to promote this great site and the least we can do for having a place to host contests like these.

Also the title of the level must contain LBPC:Halloween2 in it for people to find it easily.

6. All submissions must have been made during the contest period. No earlier levels will be considered.

7. Rules may be subject to change depending on technical problems with uploading levels but this will be done on a case by case basis and my decision on these cases is final.

JUDGING:

I'll play all levels posted in this thread that have been submitted before the deadline. I may bring in other judges and I would prefer they don't submit levels into the competition for possible conflicts of interest issues. If you'd like to be a judge send me a pm - DO NOT POST IN THIS THREAD.

Criteria for judging

Levels will be scored by adding up scores from the following categories:

1. Fun Factor/Playability - make 'em fun if you want points here.
2. Visuals/Polish - how pretty is it or at least how polished and neat is it?
3. Lighting/Effects - either great use of lights and gas and other visual effects or a lack of them if the level calls for it. It will be dependent on if the level "feels" like it's been set up right for whatever the level is depicting.
4. Originality/Creativity - can be anything from a great story to good decoration use. Just make it your own and use all the creative juices you have.

The decision of the judges (me) are final.

k - If I missed anything or if you'd like to suggest a rule change I'm all ears. I'm really excited to see what this awesome community can put together to celebrate my favorite holiday!

You can publish them as soon as you finish or wait until the 30th. Totally up to you. Keep in mind if I get a bunch on the 30th I'll have to play them a little faster than if I had them earlier.... might work to your advantage to publish a little earlier.

You can do whatever you'd like with them after LBP2 comes out but it won't affect the contest. I'll only be judging what I see as of October 30th.

I'd suggest you to try Tom_builder's levels he's pretty young and managed to make incredible levels.
Even better than mines!

Hi Morgana25 I just wanted to say that your contest is incredible I was never a part of the first one because I didn't know what LBPC was lol. Well your contest is magnificent I wound like to play some of the levels (but not as a judge) plus the prices are incredible. I was wondering can we do a A4A (advertisement for advertisement) both of our contest are head to head and I want to advertisement your if you advertisement my Pod design contest.

Yes is very strange and almost no one ever does but just think about it (and no is not a H4H or anything like that)

I do think that adding a tag would make it easier for us and any gadder who stumbled across it to follow this really cool comp. I also think it prolly should be a uniform tag, that way it will fully serve its purpose. I do think "LBPC:Halloween2" is fitting.

LBCPH2 works also but it is kinda cryptic. I know, how about "LBPC Halloween Spooktacular 2, Sacklectric Booo!galoo"... too much?		2010-09-30 04:18:00

I assume the boundaries of the subject matter or style to be semi-loose. Halloween, like Christmas, has a certain vibe to it. I think you just need to include that vibe and I can see that vibe being expressed with many different settings and styles of gameplay.		2010-10-01 02:35:00

I spent about 40 hours on my entry spread out over a couple of weekends. The key is to avoid all that unproductive time planning what to do or sleeping.

Hey - can you change the name of your level to include "LBPC:Halloween2" in the title. It's one of the rules so people can find the levels easier.

Also just making sure everyone remembers to include the lbpc sticker on their levels too.

It's funny that we had problems with the servers the last year too, with the Halloween contest. Some hours before the deadline, the servers were Offline so many had problems publising the level, me too. I think that Halloween it's a great time to do Server Check. Maybe. 2010-10-30 21:38:00

Ya I remember that from last year too. Ya, tomorrow is ok. But as early as the servers and your schedule will allow ok. it may be buggy as hell at the boss fight because i just finished it and published

Im so happy I could be in this compitition and though I realize there are no qualifications Im happy I could be in the very compitition in which teebonesy won with fear of the phantom town, my all time favorite level. I am also happy I could obtain the experience of doing all the boring work for an entire saterday on accually finishing my first level; I didnt even think I would get that far. I would like to know what you thought of my level and where I could improve because I do plan on making many more levels and perhaps reaching the skill level of some of the other skilled creators of this compitition.2010-11-01 06:39:00

Thanks so much for the honourable mention Morgana, I definitely didn't deserve first, second or third so it's the best I could have hoped for! Fair play to everyone else who made levels! I really enjoyed making mine, it's my only published level that I'm reasonably happy with, and it came together really fast, more so than my other levels at least! Congrats to the winners and thanks to Morgana and those who donated exp. =D

If there's one thing this competition has taught me, it's not to leave the gameplay till last. xD
