Monthly contest(s) idea
Archive: 18 posts
I pitched this idea on littlebigfan.com before it went the way of the dodo, and everyone there seemed into it so, I'm gonna toss the idea up here and see if we end up running with it. My idea comes from Photoshop contests that I've participated in on some car forums. After the release of LBP, we(the forum) can have a monthly level creation contest to keep the creative juices flowing. A moderator or impartial party could come up with a theme for the contest, rules/stipulations/etc and the contests can be for solo or teams or both. Maybe a solo and team contest could run at the same time for parties interested in one or both format(s). End of the month, the levels go live for playing and voting here on the forum or, the winner could be determined by the votes in-game over a period of time. IMO, this would bring publicity and new users/new talent to LBPCentral and would be fun too! Discuss. | 2008-08-01 18:12:00 Author: 1000101 Posts: 192 |
That sounds like a fun idea. I agree, it would help with creativity. | 2008-08-01 18:21:00 Author: Alaska_Gamer Posts: 209 |
Sounds good to me. You might have to remind me though when the time comes. I've got so many suggestions and great ideas from members that I can't keep it all in my head at once. LOL  | 2008-08-01 19:24:00 Author: lbp Posts: 423 |
not too bad an idea, but i'll go with whatever the majority wants. I probably wont be making levels for competitions as I would personaly rather reserve my upload space.. but if one of my level ideas falls into one of the themes i'll participate in that competition. Otherwise i'll just vote | 2008-08-01 19:56:00 Author: Maltay Posts: 2073 |

I'll probably just use an alternate PSN account to store some of my creations. :-p Here's to hoping that each saved level get's it's own save file. | 2008-08-01 20:06:00 Author: 1000101 Posts: 192 |

LOL  Don't worry, I got you covered (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=t=303). As for those worried about save space - I'm sure you can delete levels. | 2008-08-01 20:21:00 Author: bbroman Posts: 1374 |
Don't worry, I got you covered (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=t=303). As for those worried about save space - I'm sure you can delete levels. it could be that you have unlimited uploads but if your levels are more popular you can upload greater filesizes. That is what youtube is like, and thats what it's been compared to So hopefully thats it! | 2008-08-01 20:26:00 Author: Maltay Posts: 2073 |

I'm pleased to see as much enthusiasm as that on LBF. Gives me a good feeling about this forum... as long as it doesn't fade into darkness like the aforementioned. The great thing about contests for a game like this is that anything(ANYTHING) can be a subject for a contest. Upon release, we'll probably have to come up with a naming convention for contest entries. Maybe the title can be left up to the creator(s) and have a banner at the beginning of the stage telling visitors where to go to see other contestants works and where to vote. (Yes... I have thought a lot about this.) | 2008-08-02 03:29:00 Author: 1000101 Posts: 192 |
Sounds like a great idea. Perhaps mods could start an LBF account which would hold the winners levels? | 2008-08-02 10:40:00 Author: Dropbear Posts: 272 |
Whatever happened to LBF, anyway? | 2008-08-02 11:57:00 Author: bbroman Posts: 1374 |
I meant LBPC... sorry, confused | 2008-08-02 12:05:00 Author: Dropbear Posts: 272 |
Sounds like a great idea. Perhaps mods could start an LBF account which would hold the winners levels? I meant LBPC... sorry, confused I already have an account (Sackperson) which i plan to use solely for these forums. I'd also let a few other trusted poeple use the account. It would be for hosting main forum rooms like the Prize room and things, but the winners would host theyre own levels, because if they didnt it would mean me having to recreate the level. We just plan to put a prize sticker on it. Whatever happened to LBF, anyway? No money for hosting. Not that I ever went on it, I just read that in a thread on the official PS forums(US) | 2008-08-02 15:42:00 Author: Maltay Posts: 2073 |
Agree that the winner would host their own level. Doesn't make sense to do another. We'd just put a tag on the winners' levels that says "LBPC Contest Winner", so if you wanted to see them all, all you'd have to do is search the tag. | 2008-08-02 15:47:00 Author: bbroman Posts: 1374 |
Can't you share levels with other accounts? I'm sure MM said you could take someone elses level and 'remix' it if they allowed you to. Why couldn't you just take the level, put it on another account and save it as it is? I think just having the winners as a 'best of' compilation of the forum's contributions would be good. Also, said account would then rise up the ranks for the best content. Maybe MM will include a 'Guild' sort of feature, where a group can submit work under one name? | 2008-08-03 11:17:00 Author: Dropbear Posts: 272 |
