Emails from the Molecule: Can you make a calculator with LBP2 logic circuits?

Archive: 23 posts

Continuing our new blog feature, <a href="http://www.mediamolecule.com/blog/tag/emails+from+the+molecule/" title="Emails from the Molecule">Emails from the Molecule</a>,  here’s another from überprogrammer <a href="http://www.mediamolecule.com/about/whos_who/#ChrisC" title="Chris">Chris</a>. Thinking back to <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZiRgYBHoAoU" title="Upsilandre's calculator">upsilandre’s 8-bit calculator</a> made in LittleBigPlanet, Chris wanted to see if you could make a calculator in LittleBigPlanet 2 using advanced logic circuits. So, can you build a calculator in LittleBigPlanet 2?

Looks a lot easier than before, although I'm defintely not saying it would be simple to make... 2010-09-12 20:52:00

Woah! You're right. I didn't even see that... You could make an entire calculater within a full length level. Crazy... O.O

Wow, that's awesome. Although confused why this isn't in LBP2 news and media? Oh well, awesome news, thanks Spaff 2010-09-14 03:29:00

That is pretty sweet!

Quick question, is there any way comment or add a notation to those circuits? Sorry if that's been asked before, been out of the LBP loop for a few months with work...

Yes it is. They showed it on a previous photo of logic in LBP2 on the Mm website

Notice the yellow speech bubbles?

People will probably distribute ready microchips with calculators, so you won't need to even see what is 2nd pic to start playing with it
You can always read my BCD calculator tutorial to get some basis how it works and how to use it

It can do things like 78-97 = -19 if that's what you're asking (it shows the minus sign if it's negative)

Nice! Would it be possible to make a calculator with multiple functions? Ex: addition, multiplication, subtraction, division, etc.

Do you think this is possible with the logic that is available?

It's very possible in fact i will add those operations once the game releases. (There are some horrible logic lags in the beta which make it a pain dealing with complex logic sets.

Not only is it possible, but I think it's fair to say that it's not even really stretching the tools. Obviously it's no simple task to achieve, but you're certainly not going to be struggling for sake of either tools of thermo ^^

They won't. Like a wise gamer once said; You can't spell ignorant without IGN.
